He's desperate to play in the same team as Aquilani.
There has been no deal for either of them. You guys fell love with an Armenian you'd not heard of less than 2 months ago (and it looks like we wont get him either). The chances are that we will loose suarez, and the question then becomes; could alonso and gomez make up for suarez? Most people want alonso back and gomez offers something that we've been missing for years and that is a goal poacher.
I'm not sure how if we sell Suarez, the first question we ask is is Mario Gomez and Xabi can replace him.
I'm not a big fan of Gomez, and while he does score goals at a good rate, it feels like every single one was as flukey as they come. There are sexier names out there, who would be priced competitively and be better fits.
I'm not Gomez' biggest fan either as it happens, but whom else do you have in mind? Not trying to be sarky, genuine question.
Yes but on current form/skill or whatever I'd rather see Coutinho play in that position. He's more likely to have the legs to play behind the strikers than play where he currently plays. As it happens I don't think there's much reason to doubt he he the legs to play there, either. What he certainly has in abundance is intelligence on the pitch, which will prove more and more crucial as time goes on.

.
In all fairness Alonso would be a luxury signing. I'm not convinced that Gerrard has the legs to play behind the strikers.
Signing Alonso would effectively mean that he's in direct competition with Gerrard or that they'll be paired up in midfield and I'm not convinced they do a good enough job protecting the back line. It's a gamble imo. Then again I'm not so sure about Lucas either.
Well, yes, so would I, but that's another question.
I envisioned a midfield trio that consists of Lucas, Gerrard and Alonso but that would force Coutinho out on the wing. Hence why I mentioned him.
Anyway, if we do go after Alonso we need to let go of either Lucas, Allan or Henderson. Can't have all three of them on the bench.
Coutinho plays where we typically start a winger, so there's probably a spot for Allen/Henderson/LAR to rotate and win. Lucas is probably worth keeping just because we are so low on options in deep MFs. IF we get Alonso...
Sturridge/Suarez/BoriniCoutinho/Sterling/Borini-----LAR/Coutinho/Suarez/Hendo------Aspas/Downing/SturridgeGerrard/Hendo/Allen-----Xabi/Lucas/Allen/HendersonEnrique/Johnson-----Skrtel/Kolo-----Agger/Coates-----Johnson/Kelly/WisdomMignolet/Reina/JonesAfter all, we do need another deep lying MF anyways.
I've highlighted some of the issues I with those line ups.
I rate Allen, but he terrible in that defensive role. However Henderson would probably do a decent job in that role, since that's where he usually plays for the u21s.
Coutinho doesn't always start off on the left. Towards the end of the season he was playing in the middle. Downing was on the right and Henderson was more to the left, Ibe played in that position in our last game against QPR. We saw how devastating Coutinho can be while laying in that number 10 role.
Also, Henderson should never be deployed in that position.
Allen isn't at his best in that defensive role, but at this point he's still our second best DM, and if Xabi comes in, he's still our third best DM. Hendo is good starting in a deeper role, but him propensity to make runs could have us getting burned on the counter when paired with another runner like Gerrard.
Coutinho doesn't always start on the left, so I suppose your could swap him and LAR, but I would be surprised to see him playing centrally ahead of a few of those names given how effective he's been on the left. Coutinho plays more centrally than a prototypical winger allowing him to pick a pass, but barring injuries in the center or a major signing, he will continue to play on the left. If Henderson is playing in the role, which I do believe he is capable of, he will probably be expected to drop deeper and linkup with the front line rather than contribute directly, which is something he can do. Would probably be more of a 4-3-3 if he is deployed in that role, with more devoted attacking players in the same squad.
Again, this is just me mocking up a rough squad in about 5 minutes. Don't read too far into it, but my point is that depth isn't a bad thing. Expect for at least 1-2 of our MFs to get injured or dramatically lose form, and we are spot on with our squad.

That right there has got to be the most pointless post of all time.

I'd just like to add, I have no idea who we are buying or selling and I also don't have a clue how good any of these players we are being linked with are. Also, nothing we say or do can change the fact we have absolutely no say in what we do, who we buy, or whether once we've bought them they will be a success.
Might as well turn off the internet until the 1st of September then find out what's happened. Everyone would be a lot calmer I reckon.

Ah I see. In that case, if you are reading this BR, I'd like you to sign players who are both loyal and world class and don't mind we're not in europe of challenging for the title. You are wrong. BR and his scouting team pay very close attention to what we post. With out 6CM posters he would not have signed the likes Courtinho and sturridge. Now you see why people get upset!😉
