This is what those touting Messi seem to miss .... it can't be ALL about the goals. That record for a defender was amazing. Barca won nothing they didn't expect to and VvD blanked him in two games directly up against him (a FK wasn't exactly beating VvD was it) as well as contributing to a 97 point PL season with a single defeat and winning the CL plus helping Nederlands rise and a Nations Cup final. For me that would beat out Messi whether I supported LFC or not.
