Too soon.

the true worth of attacking fullbacks is there for all to see, when you have fullbacks of real quality you can almost get away with no wingers.
To say I'm pleased is an understatement, we might well have the best fullback in world football (there are a couple I think would run him close but johnson is younger so can get better).

No, I know.

We don't have "the best fullback in the world". If you argue with me, I'll kill you too.

To be fair to Spidey, the explosion of excitement is understandable. That was the best attacking performance by a Liverpool full back at Anfield in a very, very long time.

And that's enough.

Who would be classed as the best fullback in the world? Or RB anyways...
NotGlen Johnson, that's who.
Evra, for starters.
the two fullbacks I definately feel are better are evra and alves but I'd be interested to hear your opinion on other fullbacks you think are better.

Spidey said "best full-back" but anyway.

fullback from the top four (not including ourselves)

evra
rafael
sanga
clichy
cole
boswinga

(imho) johnson is better than all but one of the above

Oh sorry.

I was going to start a "In Dirk Kuyt we have a contender for sexiest man on the planet" but feared being laughed out of town.

No I know I can add in "might" and that negates all discussion.

Well let's just say Evra would have to be on the very top of his game to play as well as Johnson did last night.

If this is the sort of standard Johnson will play to, then he might well become a better player than Evra. He needs to prove it over a few seasons, rather than one rip snorting game, naturally.

One thing:

Bosingwa started off like that last season. Flying, and everybody was fawning all over him, until teams worked out how to curb his and Chelsea's influence from the full-back positions.

It could well happen to us.
I didn't watch much of Chelsea but from what I did see, he was pretty much left to run the right hand side on his own.

Glen will be playing with Dirk in front of him, who's always available, holds up the ball well, giving him the chance to get forward and when he does get forward will know that Dirk will provide cover.

If that partnership continues anything close to what it was like last night, I don't think there's a better combination in the league and I don't see it/them/Glen being nullified that easily.

for the record I certainly didn't think there was a fullback in the english league who performed better and more consistantly than johnon, not even evra in the record breaking manu backline. abroad alves was hands down the best fullback in the league but I clearly said johonson isn't better than him (yet).

Here's Glen Johnson's career:

- Promising for West Ham
- Balls for Chelsea
- Good for Portsmouth
- Raped by a Kazakhstani winger for England
- And Ryan Babel
- Two good games for Liverpool. One against Stoke.

Now compare that to Ashley Cole, or Evra, or Bosingwa, or Lahm, or plenty of others.

He's good, he's had a very promising start, and I really like what I've seen of him. But for the love of all things fucking normal, would you stop saying he's the "best full back on the planet", because he isn't.

Don't even argue it. Don't reply. Just stop.

Thankyouplease.

I don't think it's the same situation with us though. Chelsea played with a very narrow formation and it was easier to take the fullbacks out. Johnson and Kuyt looks like a potentially excellent partnership down the right.

Can't wait to see how this unfolds! *excited*

stop arguing? and change the habits of a lifetime? 😉
chelsea was too early for him.
I know you hate babel's guts but he has the pace to burn most fullbacks he certainly did ramos who is no slow poke.
he was fantastic last season and now I think you are seeing the more mature johnson, the one that wasn't given a chance at chelsea, wh I might add were willing to bid 18 million for him with boswinga on the books.

He wasnt good for Portsmouth, he was excellent. He has also had quite a few corkers for England.

Youre being unfair Ryan. Hes been one of the best RB's in the world for over a year now, it isnt just one game.
Obviously Neil has ramped up the bonkers, but still.....

definately what was needed in the quest to break down stubborn defenses the question is will be keep our solidity away from home?
well all you of can now rejoice no more moaning from me about attacking fullbacks ha ha ;D
He's absolutely delicious going forward. He looks super comfortbale on the ball, and isn't afraid to try things.

He hasn't been tested the other way though, and that's when we'll see what he's really got. I'm still a bit sceptical about his defensive capabilities, and he'll probably get found out a few times over the course of the year. I expect Rafa, Pellegrino, Carra et al to fix that over time though.

One thing I fucking loved tonight wasn't jsut the play, forays forward, and all round performance, but the fucking crunch he put on that hacker Cresswell. The two of them had been niggling at each other for most of the first half, and it seemed a few words were said. Cresswell then tried to clean him up down near the corner that time that Glenjo cut inside from the byline. Glenjo just got up, said fuck all, and waited. 5 minutes later, and about 10 seconds before half-time, he returned the favour and buried the cunt. I fucking loved that. No moaning, no complaining, no rolling around, no intent on being intimidated. He just served it staright back to him. Have that you you shitcunt.

A super display.
Yep, Cresswell would have had a red card if Dowd was reffing it.

Our right full back is a match winner!
something we needed and now have more of!!
Not a bad start at all as he's had a big hand in 3 of the 5 goals we've scored so far this season.
