Gerrard Talking Rot?

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard believes his side have turned the corner after stretching their unbeaten run in the Premier League to five games.

The Reds missed the chance to boost their top four credentials on Tuesday after being held to a frustrating goalless draw by Wolves at Molineux.

The draw and Tottenham's win over Fulham saw Liverpool slip three points behind Spurs in the race to finish fourth, but Gerrard remains confident they can grab the coveted last Champions League spot.

"It was a frustrating and difficult game tonight," said Gerrard. "Wolves defended well and the pitch was difficult to string passes together on.

"We're happy with how we defended as a team and that's four or five games undefeated for us now. We're a more difficult team to beat at the moment. Earlier in the season we'd have lost this game 1-0 but we've turned the corner now.

"We will keep fighting for this fourth place. We've a couple of home games to play now and if we can keep the momentum going and take maximum points then we'll edge into the top four.
Battling
"If we keep battling and keep defending as we have been then results will follow.

"There are a lot of people in the dressing room who are hurt at seeing us lying in seventh and eighth position and you learn a lot from these situations when times are hard.

"We have looked at each other and we want to put it right. The most important thing for me over the last four games has been the character and the desire the players have shown.

"As captain, that gives me major confidence as you know the good performances are around the corner if the solid base is there. Nobody is hiding and that's a big positive."

No reaction

Gerrard also revealed his delight at returning to action after a hamstring problem and reported no reaction to the complaint after completing the full 90 minutes at Molineux.

"It's great to be back, but just disappointing we didn't win the match," added Gerrard. "It's good to be back in the group again and I'm just looking forward to the next game now.

"The physios said I'd be out for two or three weeks when I had the scan, but I have healed quickly and there were no problems with the hamstring tonight, so I'm really pleased."

It does sound slightly over-optimistic but ultimately I would rather see the captain come out with something positive like this rather than moaning.

What Richey said

I think it's very telling tho.

It's bullshit, of course.

But it does indicate that he's sticking with the team.

After Istanbul he made lots of talk about leaving if we couldnt strengthen and how much he hated how weak the team was; and we're playing far worse than we were then (despite what the apologists say).

I expected a lot worse from him.

5 games, 2 draws, 3 wins.
Not so bad after the season we've had.
We are looking more solid at the back, which was desperately needed.
Last night was bloody awful, but you cant deny our form has improved over the last 5 games.

*dances a happy jig*

Not getting beaten for 5 games on the bounce is a good thing. How low Liverpool have sunk. Those five results on the spin would have been seen as failure at one time.

I think that's one of the problems actually. Some at the club have assumed just because we were a force means we can replicate it fairly easily, and even Robinson, who deserves many plaudits for hiring good managers should have foresaw the need to progress with things like a stadium.

It's telling in that his pep-talk comments are in such contrast to our light-of-day versions of events.

He's doing his best, but we're fucked fucked fucked
