I don't understand how Dirk isn't (along with Pep) everyones favourite redman. Fucking legend he is.
Er, because he's not actually all that good at football? Just guessing like.
On the other hand, winning something could just whet his appetite and make him realise what he wants more of it. Could go either way really.
True, but with Gerrard now staying I think it's likely he'll stay another year. Hodgson knows how to say the right thing, too, so hopefully can persuade him into giving us another year.

Plus it seems only Chelsea and City can afford him at present. If he was Barca's main target I'd be far more worried.

With the sincerest regards, that's bullshit.

How many assists has he got at the World Cup?

Total and utter fucking bullshit - how retarded.

Yep hes made absolutely no contribution whatsoever to a side that has made the WC final - obviously hes not very good at football.

Pathetic.

I can think of two of the top of my head and one goal. Plus he stopped Maicon 'running game' against Brazil.

I thought it was more, he seems to have been heavily involved in many of the goals anyway.

Dirk Kuyt is a good footballer. It's obvious, isn't it?
I've got to be honest (and in light of my thread in the vault) it took a while for him to win me over. Probably until I stopped judging him as a striker and started looking at him as a 'footballer'. He's an intelligent player, a nice guy and he sweats blood for Liverpool, and Holland for that matter. How England could have done with someone like him this Summer.

Completely agree with this - dont get me wrong, off-form he is horrible (very few arent) but hes a hugely committed player, who undoubtedly has a good footballing brain, and enables more talented players to show their wares

I don't have a problem with kuyt at all apart from him continuing to play when he is off form which doesn't help the player or the team.

i love Dirks attitude..

Sometimes when the team is in poor form he is the one that tries to make things happen - Unfortunately i think its at these times his weaknesses shine through.

His off the ball movement is wonderful and its his patience, willingness to receive the ball and movement that easily make him a right backs dream.

From a defensive aspect he is superb. His tackling, reading of the game, engine, strength and experience make him significantly important when playing against attacking fullbacks. His presence on the field and off the field makes him a true role model for the youngsters at the club.

I would have liked to have seen Kuyt play central midfield instead of Aurellio last season - obviously our lack of strength on the right made that near impossible but he could in theory play the free role - Gerrard style midfielder wonderfully well.

I think everyone can do with a stint on the bench when needed. The problem last season was that we didn't really have anyone to cover for Kuyt, Gerrard or Torres when they were injured or off form. Hopefully if we bring in a couple of attackers then this won't be the case next season.

He has had some periods of form where he really should have been benched, and he certainly has flaws to his game, but he is a player that I've always liked for the many good things he brings to the team

He isn't the best striker, or 'winger' in the world, but he is overall, very effective

Yes, we could do better, but we could just as easily do a lot worse, and great teams don't have 'the best player' in every single position

He has often been unfairly maligned by Liverpool fans, which is disappointing for a player as good as he is

Still, when the likes of Xabi Alonso can get roundly and regularly abused, it is unsurprising

I don't think now is the time to argue the case, and as I said earlier, Dirk is a a really nice guy and just the sort you need in the trenches with you when the going gets tough, and as it happens I think it's great he has come out and pledged himself to the cause, but I do sympathise with Bunnys perspective. He has good attributes , but some serious shortcomings too.

regards

(just read Brens post and I largely agree)

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight, could you quickly explain to me how its possible to say that you sympathise with the perspective that "hes not a very good footballer"?

OK, I don't think he is a great footballer, I certainly don't rate hi as highly than others, he tries to make up for his shortcomings by working very hard, and for some of the time that is enough.

hope kuyt wins the world cup.
That's a good point, would we rather Dirk had his hands on the cup or Nando?

regards
When making up my mind on this i had to look further than just Torres v Kuyt in order to come to a decision. Babel v Pepe came into the equation as well and then it was an easy choice.........Spain please.

I'm not surprised by Dirk's pledge he's always seemed a genuine guy. He's a great team player and you can see him cajoling the others all the time. His technical ability may seem suspect on occasion but he scores regularly and his work rate and fitness level are a benchmark for all.

No doubt there are better players to replace him with but who and at what cost?

Nobody is saying he's a great footballer.

Its pretty straight forward - it was stated that he's not a very good player > the statement is patently bollocks > you said you sympathised..... im confused. Are you saying he is or he isnt? Or were you simply defending another poster that you "get on with"?

There was a super thread about how confident people were that that fucking cunt Lucas could easily fill in for him

And many, many more hilarious Xabi opinions, a quick search will give you hours of amusement

That sums it up fairly I think.

I wonder if we rated the best strikers in the world, where he'd end up.

watching xabi at the world have has been heart breaking. what a fucking player. I take back watch I said about not keeping players against their will, rafa should have forced him to see out his contract.

That is not a dig at Oncy. A good few said that. Oncy said on numerous times he didn't want Xabi to leave. It was only when Alonso left that Oncy turned on him a bit as he wanted to find closure and move on.
