Football gone mad

Might be bull but a £1billion battle for Neymar and Messi?? That is 1,000 millions and no one really seem to care how ridiculous that is. It is reported as if it is natural state of how things will/should be.

Messi will be earning around £2 million a week if that happens I reckon. And there are endless talks of children starving, no fresh water and yada yada.

Mad.

I assume it must be Arab money right? In which case what isn't to like? The money will come in, and go to Spain/France as tax. That's good. Messi isn't a dick and may donate some of his wealth. That's also good. In all, it seems like a good way to bleed oil producing countries who don't appreciate the value or function of money.

Professional football is no longer a job; economists must surely have a terminology to describe whats happening here...

The first million pound player was Gerry Francis, in the very early 80's I believe. It took about 30 years for Ronald-oh to go for 80 million or something.

I've no idea where I'm going with this.

Inflation.

It'll be even better when everyone has forgotten about how funny it is. It'll be like the discovery of a lost episode of Father Ted.

Indeed, considering he was just 6 million back then.

I often think of giving up the game. I've heard others threaten the same thing here and elsewhere. I've thought about it often. Unfortunately LFC and football are like a drug you keep going back to. It made you completely euphoric on a few occasions down the years, and so you keep longing for a bit of that again. Like a forlorn gambler sitting late at night at a slot machine. The Sky generation, the likes of City and Chelsea outspending everyone every year, stupid tribalism in fanbases, the charm being sucked out of the game, overpaid average players making millions each year.

Klopp at LFC has given me a bit of a breath of fresh air. But god forbid he fails in the next couple of years, I think I might well lose interest. Especially if United get Guardiola and keep spending 100 mil every year.

My question is, those old enough to remember back in the 80's and who were around then - was there ever this doomed feeling around the game back then where you felt the game was moving out of touch? Did you ever think of giving up football back then?

Indeed. The billionaire monies making the BPL into their little play thing, the Rooneys making in a week what it will take someone his entire career to make, the general mercenary attitude of the players (everyone starts saying he love to play in the £££BPL), the Fifa and Blatter BLATANT corruption for years, and now the billions being touted.

If it wasn't for Liverpool I wouldn't miss a thing about football.

No one thinks of giving up football when their team is winning.

I knew a few lads who packed in after Istanbul. It was as if they'd been dying to chop out for ages but didn't want to leave a sinking ship.

I'm still dead set on my lad supporting a lower league side, with a passing interest in us and Chelsea (for the mrs).

Think i'll face stiff opposition from every other fucker though
