There's too much money involved for this not to happen.
Floyd Mayweather has spoken angrily of Manny Pacquiao and his team for blaming him for not accepting their proposed big-money fight.
Pacquiao and promoter Bob Arum were unwilling to compromise on Team Mayweather's request for random blood testing in the run-up to the fight, and talks are now dead in the water.
A mediator was brought earlier this week in a desperate bid to iron out the contract dispute, but despite Mayweather offering a concession, Pacquiao did not accept terms.
"Throughout this whole process I have remained patient, but at this point I am thoroughly disgusted that Pacquiao and his representatives are trying to blame me for the fight not happening when clearly the blame is on them," Mayweather said.
"Before the mediation, my team proposed a 14-day, no blood testing window leading up to the fight. But it was rejected.
"I am still proposing the 14-day window but he is still unwilling to agree to it, even though this is obviously a fair compromise on my part as I wanted the testing to be up until the fight and he wanted a 30-day cut-off.
"The truth is he just doesn't want to take the tests. Manny Pacquiao and his team are denying the people a chance to see the biggest fight ever.
"I know the people will see through their smokescreens and lies. I am ready to fight and sign the contract. Manny needs to stop making his excuses, step up and fight."
Pacquiao issued legal proceedings last week following Mayweather's insistence on stringent drugs-testing, claiming such actions were defamatory.
But while Arum claimed Mayweather was unwilling to take the fight, the undefeated American insisted he was ready for the challenge.
"First and foremost, not only do I want to fight Manny Pacquiao, I want to whip his punk ass."
Manny Pacquiao has secured Ghanaian Joshua Clottey as his next opponent should his clash with Floyd Mayweather Jnr fall through.
The Filipino favourite and pound-for-pound rival Mayweather have failed to agree on terms for a proposed March 13 Las Vegas super-fight, with broken down negotiations now apparently irretrievable.
The argument stems from Mayweather's insistence on random blood and urine testing ahead of the fight, with WBO welterweight champion Pacquiao launching legal action and all parties now seemingly conceding that the fight will not materialise.
The row continued on Thursday when Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum wrote off the fight without mediator Judge Daniel Weinstein and Mayweather himself having their say.
Stand-in
Arum has been arranging alternative opposition in the meantime, with former welterweight champion Clottey set to step in.
It was initially suggested that new WBA light-middleweight title-holder Yuri Foreman would fill the spot but Clottey, who like Foreman is an Arum Top Rank fighter, now appears to be the favourite.
"Sorry Floyd...you had numerous chances to make the fight of the century happen. We are no longer waiting around for you!" said a statement reportedly on the Top Rank Facebook Fan Page.
"Top Rank is pleased to announce that Manny Pacquiao will defend his World Boxing Organisation welterweight championship title in a bout with Joshua Clottey, Saturday March 13, 2010! It's on!"
No official announcement has been made, however, suggesting the showdown between Pacquiao and Mayweather could still be resurrected
