So what's your take on it, unwelcome distraction or something to look forward to?

There's arguements for and against but on the whole it's an unwelcome distraction imo.

It seems to go on forever, and the shitty Thursday-Sunday thingy puts a right downer on it, much prefer us playing on a Saturday unless it's the Derby or United or another major fixture.

Fair enough, we're in no position to be snobby about any competition we're in but the whole thing just isn't very appealing.

It might prove to be a positive thing for some of our fringe players/youngsters, give them game time but overall it has more cons than pros.

I hope we play a really young and exciting squad.

Tbh, I'm sick of all this "play your best team in every game" mentality that leads to us winning the Carling Cup...and important players like Lucas getting injured, the team being tired and distracted and fringe players never getting a chance. It makes RAWK happy but it hurts the league. Not a nice thing to say, but KD got it wrong.

I rather see some young players like Suso, Sterling etc out there that we hear about all the time play an actual match that had some meaning for the club and for them, than see the 1st eleven knocking it around like they don't care.

Not being in Europe really helped last season, didn't it. It can works both ways, players will complain of being tired when they're getting beat, but you don't hear teams getting to the final going 'oh, all these extra games are a hindrance'. On the otherhand, if you lose a game your next game isn't so far away, so you can get it out of the system so to speak, instead of waiting a whole week to do so, and then there are competitive matches in the earlier rounds to help blood your youngsters to see who can step up to the mark and possibly get a chance in the Premier League games. I want us to be in Europe as it is part of the package which makes us attractive to players potentially coming to the club.

Let them at it and see how far they can get.

Coady is overrated.

For the record, I haven't watched all that much of Coady and he's never impressed me all that much the handful of times I have seen him. I don't see how can say he's overrated though as I have never seen anyone on here or anywhere else for that matter, rave about him.

There was a lot of hype about him on RAWK and some here even me thought he possibly was the next Gerrard. His Gerrard-esque goal in a pre-season friendly didn't help.
I've watched him closely during the past season and he's just too raw.
I mean he's a leader on the pitch and all but he's just not that intelligent and comfortable on the ball. Not much of a passer either. On the plus side he's a big, physical tackler and a hard worker.
But currently he just doesn't have what it takes to move up. Suso is IMO well ahead of him. As well as, Robinson, McLaughlan, Sterling and Adorjan, even though they don't play in the same position.

We should play to win in every competition we qualify for. The more games you play the better you'll get - simple really.

We are qualifying in the same round as Inter Milan and Marseille. If they can do it so can we.

It'll be Rodgers' official games managing in Europe too. Sets things up nicely for the Champions League campaign in 13/14 then.

We badly need this competition to build experience for younger lads, and also for Rogers to build experience

I think it will be good for Rodgers to get some valuable experience.
