Is this the worst England Squad ever?

England squad:
Goalkeepers: Ben Foster, Joe Hart, John Ruddy
Defenders: Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Phil Jagielka, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Kyle Walker
Midfielders: Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Jack Wilshere, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young, Wilfried Zaha,
Strikers: Jermain Defoe, Rickie Lambert, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck

We are REALLY struggling up front aren't we. Why no Sturridge ? Better than Defoe, Lambert and Welbeck !

I just wish to fuck Stevie would retire from this farce.
International football Pffft. This Ing-ur-lund wankfest is the most pointless of the lot.

The idea of players having to leave their clubs to join up with the international camp, days before the start of the PL, is a sick joke.

England's striking options are very limited.

The lack of English strikers at top clubs has really come home to roost.

It won't change any time soon.

We have lacked a proper #9 for years now. It's been a major problem for Rooney as well because he often looks lost up front on his own.

In euro 96 we had shearer, sherringham, wright, fowler, cole, Ferdinand and collemore to choose from

Wow times have changed.

Even the missing Carroll and Sturridge don't really add anything to an uninspiring choice.

Could they be the #9?

England Under-21s squad:

Goalkeepers: Jonathan Bond (Watford), Jack Butland (Stoke City), Sam Johnstone (Manchester United), George Long (Sheffield United).

Defenders: Eric Dier (Sporting Lisbon), Todd Kane (Blackburn Rovers, on loan from Chelsea) Michael Keane (Manchester United), Jack Robinson (Blackpool on loan from Liverpool), Luke Shaw (Southampton), John Stones (Everton), Tom Thorpe (Manchester United), Andre Wisdom (Liverpool).

Midfielders: Ross Barkley (Everton), Nathaniel Chalobah (Chelsea), Tom Carroll (Tottenham Hotspur), Will Hughes (Derby County), Jesse Lingard (Manchester United), Jonjo Shelvey (Swansea City).

Forwards: Sammy Ameobi (Newcastle United), Saido Berahino (West Bromwich Albion), Thomas Ince (Blackpool), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Nathan Redmond (Norwich City), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Connor Wickham (Sunderland).

What has Cleverley ever done to justify his inclusion?

Zackly. A mate of mine who's a Manc asked me that very question once. I used to think it might be because Hodgson always had his tongue wedged firmly up Ferguson's jacksie, but now Ferguson's buggered off it would seem that wasn't the reason.

Has Hendo been dropped?

I don't know. Is he? He was captain until this squad and they usually have an average player so it seems a bit odd seeing as he hasn't been promoted to the senior squad.

edit - yes you're right - 23.

I would have thought he'd make the senior team too. He's a better player than Cleverly.

I'm not sure what Zaha has done to justify his inclusion, unless he's been shit hot for the Mancs in pre-season.

Rooney's best form for England came when Heskey played alongside. Same for Michael Owen.

Heskey's role for England was criminally underrated by most.

Hodgson probably doesn't realise he's gone. Or Moyes is simply a puppet.

Freudian slip there Macca ?

He did help them out but the problem with Heskey was that at that level you need to be able to offer a bit more than donkey work.

It might not have been quite so bad if the rest of the team was great.. but.... yeah.
