Italy vs England

BECAUSE ASPAS WAS FUCKING WANK WHEN HE CAME ON AND LALLANA WASN'T YOU INTOLERABLE FUCKER.

Quite. He seems to find some coloration between a player coming on and only contributing passing the ball straight to an opposition player from a corner under zero pressure in a must win game, with Lallana coming on and creating two chances in ten minutes against an International side blessed with a good blend of young talent and experienced cold heads who've won EVERYTHING there is to win in the game and who are probably THE best drilled tactical team in the tournament.

No though, they're one in the same according to the myopic 5 year old.

Anyway, let's talk more about Pirlo.

My word. My fucking word what a player.

90 minutes of that bearded Italian having sex with a football. 117 touches and everyone of them was like the feeling of your cock touching the vag lips just as you're about to slide the fucker in. Mesmerising.

I nearly blew my load all over the living room when he sashayed that free-kick off the bar in the dying minutes. In a way it was better it didn't go in, kinda made it even more iconic that it just pinged off the bar and he waltzed off non-plussed like a fucking boss.

See the way he hit the fucking thing too? Just nonchalantly flicked at it and then had the audacity to arc his leg around after it like the coolest cat in town. Here's me doing that shit any day of the week world, watch my sex. Someone get a gif of it for fuck's sake so I can get another lob on.

He's cool as fuck, what a player and what a character too. We can talk about Alonso all day but this guy is a tier up again IMO, both great players so I'm not trying to do Xabi a disservice, but Pirlo is right at the top - Gerrard has been shoehorned into that role and you could see the complete contrast in discipline and composure. Pirlo has played that role for about 135 years, and it shows.

Players like Pirlo are exactly why I'd prefer players who play with intelligence rather than passion every time. The level of understanding Pirlo has of the game is outstanding.

The game seemed to pass by Gerrard. Rooney left Baines in the lurch for 90 minutes and Welbeck offers very little.

Still , we played better football against a decent team than we have in a long time and could've won 4/3-2 on another day quite easily.

Naturally, We will make an absolute chore out of the Next match now...

The folly is when other teams try to get a player to play in 'the Pirlo position'. No one else can play like him. He's there to be enjoyed, not copied.

And we played Chelsea who are... a pub team? Sunday league team?

Yes, the fact it was Chelsea is the reason that Aspas played a 10 yard pass straight to their player, from a corner, rather than, say, pumping the ball into the box, or even more radically - passing it to another Liverpool player.

I'm still waiting for you to explain the correlation, or for you to tell the World why you've gone from saying we should buy him for the right price, to now going out on a limb to prove him to be wank, or whatever.

Jesus Christ, I said that Lallana's cameo was wank, not that he's a wank player. His performance during those 10-15 minutes was wank, I expected more.
You basically said "you can't judge him after a 10 min cameo performance" and then I countered that it was clearly OK when it was regarding Aspas, not that I'm defending that crap performance.
Forget that Aspas substitution, lets be frank, hasn't anyone here ever judged a player after a 10-15 minute cameo?

If we're watching a player none of us know much about, then yeah, we might say, "I'm not impressed off that showing", because it's the only perspective we have on that player. The point was obvious though, you were looking too hard for something negative to say, without reasoning it with the fact that he's just had a very good season and has clearly proven he's otherwise a good player.

Like I said, not many people think the price is justifiable, I certainly don't, but I'm not going to go to the opposite extreme and brandish him another Downing or Carroll, just to pigeonhole him. He's not, but the price is too steep.

It's also a folly to expect Gerrard (or anyone else) to be able to play like him in the England side. Putting Gerrard's strengths and weaknesses aside, the whole Italian side is set up to keep the ball, whereas Hodgson doesn't seem to have decided whether we want to be a patient, ball-retaining side or a fast, punchy, direct counter-attacking team. Welbeck and Rooney aren't good enough at keeping the ball, neither is Barkley, so it reduces the effectiveness of a deep-lying playmaker.

EDIT: it'd be different if ahead of Gerrard and Henderson were Oxlade Chamberlain, Lallana and Sterling.

I don't think anyone has branded him a Downing/Carroll regarding his abilities. It's always been about the money

It is getting extremely tiresome now.

The world cup is on FFS. A festival, a celebration of football, & it's the best one for at least a decade, shut up & enjoy it.

True, but that's never going to happen. One or two well-intentioned but misguided posters who clearly haven't followed these discussions all the way through will occasionally stick up for him, and they're not going to join in.

FFS, I come to this thread hoping to see highlights and all I get is Modo vs World.

Anyone got any highlights?
