Police searching for the missing plane carrying footballer Emiliano Sala are working on the theory that he and the pilot made it on to a life raft.

The search has resumed for Cardiff City's £18m new signing after the light aircraft he was travelling on from Nantes disappeared over the Channel.

Guernsey Police said it was looking at four possibilities for the fate of the plane including that it landed on water, with Sala and the pilot making it onto a life raft that was known to be on board.

In a WhatsApp message to loved ones, Sala expressed concerns about his plane shortly before the light aircraft disappeared.

"I'm on a plane that looks like it's going to fall apart, and I'm leaving for Cardiff," Sala said in a WhatsApp audio message carried by Argentine newspaper Clarin.

"If in an hour and a half you have no news from me, I don't know if they will send people to look for me, because they will not find me, you know. I'm so scared," he added.

I hate flying, so the idea of going in some little single engined bucket is terrifying. If he was thinking like that, why in God's name did he get on the thing? I'm sure Easyjet or Ryanair had a proper plane flying from somewhere nearby.

Many people are saying if you listen to the actual audio he is very much joking and that he wasn’t serious at all. The plane had to be a piece of junk for him to make the joke though...

LOL - True but if it looks like a light aircraft Piper Malibu (that apparently it was) then I certainly wouldn't have got in. It's the sort of thing you'd see sticking out from a skip! What's the cost of a human life, should it be any different because he's a footballer? it is a horrific accident I agree.. yet their is people being killed every day in a mass humanitarian crisis trying to get from A to B that society chooses to ignore and fails to get the coverage that this gets..
