The same poster who'd get Enrique horribly wrong?

I'm still hoping he'll be right about Henderson!

I'm nailing my colours to the mast

I'm fed up with him.

He needs confidence but he's not willing to gamble enough to get confidence back. But he won't gamble because he has no confidence.

He's in a catch 22 and because of that he's fucked.
I don't even think that's entirely true. He cracked a shot from about 30 yards the other day when he had better options ahead of him, that's gambling. He just looks like an average Joe who just doesn't have enough in the locker to make a significant enough difference. I'm hoping he improves and gets somewhere close to his Villa form at some point, but really, I think HE has been the let down of the Summer for us.

Downing Syndrome

Funny until we actually signed him. Too many saw this coming.

I'd sell him for 10M plus. Hopefully he shows a bit of good form for us and England so we get a few bidders (assuming the club would entertain selling him).

I'd be very disappointed if he was with us next year. He is really average. Well, that's a compliment. He's below average. Horrifiying signing.
You were right the first time, he's average and only worth £8m-ish. The fact is he probably will have a good series of games for us at some stage and he will sway the opinion of some posters BUT regardless of any upswing in his performances he was a very bad buy for £20m and those of us who have watched him for 6 or 7 seasons didn't need to see him in a red shirt to know how average he was.

If there was one player I was expecting to be the new "lucas" / whipping boy on here it was Stu.

I am genuinly gutted how he has done for us, he has all the talent, the tricks, the pace, strong left foot to be a top left winger.

I don't know if it is in his head, he does not have the flashness or arrogance of a top winger he is just lacking something..

Everytime I watch him, I see moments which make me excited then he bottles it 3 or 4 times on the flank choosing the easy option and then loses his confidence.

He should say fuck it, I am going to try to beat the man and get a cross in everytime today regardless of how many times it works, no winger beats his man everytme but the top ones don't take it to heart they just try it again.

Who knows what could have happened if that amazing run on his debut did not end with him hitting the bar (shocker)

He'd want to get a move on if he's going to give us those 10 assists Spidey said he guaranteed us.

to be fair Ross for any other top 6 team he would have had them already as our strikers have fluffed some sitters from his crosses.

it would be interesting to know how many of his assists ended up on the woodwork

What he infuriates me the most about him is that he has no heart.

He could learn a thing or off spearing, another limited player who at least is willing to try things (mostly without success!)
Bah! Spearing is the scouse Xavi!

Back in the old Koptalk days there was a poster, a Welsh lad with the usernames NY Red/Brooklyn Red, who was a big fan of Downing's and often advocated buying him. Wonder what he thinks now.

That's the thing though, he doesn't.

TBF he does have the pace and the strong left foot. The rest of that list seems in pretty short supply now though, as does the mental strength.

Aye, he has it all in moderation though and he should be doing alot better than he has. He just looks over-awed to me and out of his depth.

Bascially the lad needs to grow a pair of balls. He's no world beater and never will be but he should be showing and is capable of producing alot more than he has this season.

Every time I've seen him try and outpace a defender he's been caught up. That's why he checks back so often.

Definitely. Never been a big fan but Downing's got ability and is capable of so much more. Extremely disappointing signing.

bit harsh Ken fella, Walker was quick the other day but I have seen Downing skin loads for pace this year, problem is the cross afterwards ;D

I'm just tired of waiting for these signings to show something. We've been soo patient. Carroll, Downing, Henderson have been tiresome. Suarez, Bellamy, Enrique delivered immediately thankfully.

If you mean Xpert League's Manager of the Century, nope. Different Welshman altogether.

I thought NY Red was Irish for some reason. I think he met up with Dunc once for pint. He also had inside info on someone who was going to take over the club, don't think it was Hicks and Gillette though...

No, he originated from Cardiff (though he'd been in the States for a long time, since going over to study at Harvard). It was Robert Kraft that he knew and hoped to see taking over.

After what he did at New England Revolution though (with our own Stevie Nicol at the helm) I think we could have done a lot worse. NY Red was a true LFC fan and was VERY keen that Kraft and his organisation come in. It's hard to imagine he'd have been any worse than Zippy and Bungle, a.k.a.Moores and Parry, let alone the two chancers to whom they sold out.

Name one trick (beyond running fast with the ball) that Stu has got in his reportoire.
