Dos Santos

He's shite huh?
Great. Another player who plays like utter shit at the team that pays his wages but is the best thing ever because he played well once for another team.

Here's the thing Modo, he had an opportunity at the highest level in England and failed miserably. He then had an opportunity at the second highest level at England and failed miserably. Scoring a goal against the Brazil Olympic squad means almost nothing, and doesn't pay back any of the fee Spurs paid for him.

Mascherano is also a retarded comparison because it was well publicised that West Ham couldn't afford the additional fees they would have to pay if they played him.

Yet again we are in a situation where a player offers no tangible evidence of being able to play at the level he is employed to play at yet you use some "evidence" from a completely different league to "prove your point". Maybe he might recover after his catastrophic time in England, maybe he wont but one youtube video proves nothing and the lack of interest from the big clubs says a lot (unlike Masher who was coveted by multiple clubs when he left West Ham).

Well here's the thing refugee.
From what I've seen the kid is very talented and I'm not basing it on youtube videos, I'm basing it on how I've seen him play for both Barca and Mexico.
Like I said the kid clearly has the ability and the tactics employed by Tottenham might not suit him.
If we can get him cheaply I don't see why we shouldn't go after him.

What is the deal with dos santos ? Is he lazy or something? He always looks amazing for Mexico, world class.

I know he definitely has the ability but the difference between him and world class players is his consistency. Rogers is going to want players who can keep the ball, comfortable on the ball and passing.

Yesterday, in a friendly game against Brazil Giovanni Dos Santos once again showed why he can be such a mercurial and frustrating footballer. The 23 year old Mexican collected the ball far on the left wing and from a near impossible angle floated the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net. Whether it was a moment of inspired genius or a miss-hit cross is debatable but what is not in doubt is the potential skill and ability of this baby faced, midfield dynamo.

Similarly, in last year’s Gold Cup final against the USA, Dos Santos provided a moment of magic when he dribbled past a scrambling Tim Howard then chipped a perfect shot over a gang of defenders and into the goal.

These are two of many acts of genius that Mexicans hold dear and it is why the followers of “El Tri” treasure “Gio “so much. The problem for supporters of Tottenham is why he doesn’t show this form for them.

Since signing from Barcelona in 2008 Dos Santos has mustered a paltry 17 appearances for Spurs with the majority of games being in the Carling Cup or Europe League. His time at White Hart Lane has been extremely disappointing and has led to him being farmed to Ipswich Town, Galatasaray and Racing de Santander.

It is clear that Harry Redknapp rates the Mexican but his patience seems to have finally worn out. As far back as 2010 he said;

‘If he [Dos Santos] could pass a nightclub as well as he can pass a ball, he would be all right.’

Unfortunately Dos Santos has not heeded the warnings and now seems destined for an exit from White Hart Lane.

Baby faced Giovanni was born into a footballing family. His Brazilian father played for Mexican League teams in the 80’s and his brothers Eder and Jonathon play for Club America and Barcelona respectively.

Dos Santos burst onto the international scene during the under 17 World Championships where his displays earned him the Adidas Silver ball, second behind Manchester United’s Anderson. Barcelona were quick to recognize his potential and he was drafted into their famed youth squads.

Again in the under 20 World Cup in Canada his performances were enthralling, quickly becoming Mexico’s key man and although his team were eliminated in the quarter finals by Argentina he was awarded with the Adidas Bronze ball.

Football journalists and pundits were gushing with the praise, and he was heralded as the next Maradonna( or maybe Hugo Sanchez), it seemed like the world was at his feet.

Maybe guilty of impatience at Barcelona he then unwisely opted to move on to Tottenham and while his chances may were thwarted by messrs Messi, Iniesta and Xavi at the Nou Camp, Modric, Krankjar and Lennon were often before him on match days at White Hart Lane.

But while his club form has stalled in England for Mexico Dos Santos has become a pivotal figure and his performances often have a bearing on Mexico’s final result.

His displays for Mexico have earned him a runner-up award for the FIFA Young Player of the Tournament award at the 2010 World Cup and player of the tournament at 2009 Gold Cup. He inspired Mexico to Gold Cup successes in 2009 and 2011 and his afore mentioned goal against the USA was voted best of the tournament.

Playing behind the main strikers he often creates opportunities for his team-mates with incisive runs and close ball control. When given an opportunity to score he is composed usually electing to round the keeper and slot into the gaping goal. He reminds me of Gianfranco Zola although not as physically strong, this may be why he is struggling in the rumble tumble of the premiership.

Regardless of where he plays his club football Dos Santos will be a main stay in the Mexican team and as a result future World Cups.

Recently he was linked to Swansea and Brendan Rogers but it remains to be seen if the Liverpool coach continues his interest with his new club.

Having scored in Mexico's previous match vs. Bosnia, he's gotta another today, against Brazil (Olympic squad).

Mexico beat Brazil 2-0 in a Dallas friendly, with both goals coming within the first 33 minutes of the start of the match. Giovani Dos Santos scored first for Mexico in the 22nd minute with a wonderful chip to the far post from an impressive angle. At first it looked like it might have been a cross intended for Chicharito that got away from him in the best way possible, but according to Dos Santos, he did what he intended to do. Said the 23-year-old after the match (via Medio Tiempo):

"You asked me several times, I tried it, I saw that Chicharito was alone there in the center, so I tried it out and thankfully got the goal," he said.

Of course, even if he wasn't trying to shoot, why not say that he was after it worked out so well? But upon closer inspection, it does look like Dos Santos was going for the difficult shot and as U.S. fans surely remember from the 2011 Gold Cup final, he is quite good with those floating chip shots.

He's talented but not right for a club like ours or Spurs.

He needs go somewhere small where he'll be the focus of the club. See Cassano at Sampdoria.

Bigger clubs have bigger things to worry about than him and so he'll be allowed to rot and it's just a waste for all involved.

He's well worth a pun at 5-6m add sigurdsson, affellay, hoilett, clasie and a striker and i'll be very happy going into next season! On the topic of Dos Santos he's always had the talent just hasn't settled yet, with rodgers' apparent great man management skills he could turn him into a great player.

This, completely.

So..... He's the Mexican David Healy then.

Wonderful...

Wonder if he's staying in England.

Dos Santos has endured a nightmare four-year spell at White Hart Lane, making just two Barclays Premier League starts since he signed from Barcelona four years ago.

The 23-year-old Mexico forward has had loan spells at Racing Santander, Galatasaray and Ipswich, but Sevilla and Atletico Madrid have recently been linked with signing the player on a permanent basis.

Dos Santos, who will represent Mexico at the Olympics, has been allowed to leave the country's training camp this weekend to return to Europe, where he will complete a move to an unnamed club, the country's coach Luis Fernando Tena claims.

"He asked us if he could complete the transfer from Tottenham to another team," Tena was quoted as saying mediotiempo.com.

"He has to go to sign papers, he has to go to get them sorted out.

"The most important thing is his mental state. We never had a doubt when he told us (he wanted to go back to Europe). We told him: 'Go. Do it."'

"He told us the name of the club. I can't say which club, but for us it is much better if he is relaxed, that he gets his contract sorted and that he comes back physically and mentally at his best level, content and knowing that he is going to play."
