Doping in the premier league

Blood spinning, HGH, that other blood thingy that's supposedly untraceable involving transfusions, & undoubtedly loads of stuff that most people have no clue about, will be standard practice in almost all clubs.
I'd imagine that there are many 'legal' ways to promote repair and recovery that are de rigeuer at all PL clubs (and in fact everywhere in Europe) however I would be very surprised if there was anything illegal being done. Not because of any club ethics but because it would surely have come out before now considering how thick half of PL footballers are, or from a whistleblower, and not from such a dubious source as this.

Two things on that:
1. A banned athlete admitted to receiving prescriptions from the Doctor. Its not just the doctor in sales mode.

2. If you look at all the drugs scandals - they all start with dubious sources.

Probably cycling and athletics are the two most prone to 'interference' and in both cases it's most likely that these will be individuals operating outside of their official coaching staff, or with the assistance/acquiescence of maybe a single coach as distributor as we've seen with US athletes (an exception could be in recent history in cycling when teams were involved or in athletics today where it is systematically used by a National federation to the ignorance of their athletes, a possibility being Kenya and likely to have been Russia).

Admittedly there is the possibility that PL footballers have gone outside of their club to seek medical assistance and been subjected, either with or without their knowledge, to illegal practices, but I would assume that to be rare/unlikely considering the daily/weekly testing players are subject to by their club and that if anything untoward was discovered that player would be disciplined and immediately removed from that treatment (the club would naturally want to keep that quiet).

Look at the basis upon which the UKAD avoided investigating :

After assessing all the evidence, as per the National Intelligence Model, UKAD did not believe that there were grounds, at that point, to refer the case to the General Medical Council (GMC)."

UKAD recommended the sportsman who brought the allegations to its attention gather more information and pass it on to the GMC - the national body responsible for the registration and conduct of doctors - "if appropriate" as the doctor was outside its jurisdiction.

The doctor was outside their jurisdiction - when a banned athlete comes and presents them with evidence of his own doping.

Interestingly:

The GMC has confirmed while Bonar is registered with it, he does not have a current licence to practise medicine in the UK and the Omniya Clinic in London, where the doctor rented private consulting rooms to treat his patients, said it ended his professional services agreement on Friday after learning he does not hold a current licence.

On the dubious sources front:

The Mitchell Report - uncovered widespread doping in MLB - it all revolved around the info provided by Kirk Radomski who was a batboy/ clubhouse assistant for the Mets. He was painted as a bit of a joke at the outset, as someone who just loved to be able to associate himself with professional athletes. 180 players were implicated.

Peyton Manning - Al Jazeera broke the story about his HGH use. He denies using, but doesn't deny shipments of HGH arrived at his house in his wife's name. That report was initially laughed off. Now Peyton is tainted, and couldn't get another contract so retired.

Jose Canseco - a widespread joke in baseball, an admitted drug cheat who called out a number of players as drugs cheats and he was derided for it. He was right though.

Lance Armstrong - did you see what happened to the the people who accused him ? David Walsh, Paul Kimmage and Emma O'Reilly. Not only were they ridiculed , they were sued as well - by the UCI as well as Armstrong.

We know systematic doping has gone on in football previously - particularly in Italy.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was happening in the Premiership - I'd be less surprised if players were going about it themselves.

I think its been obvious for some time that this was going on, just look at the way the physique of top players has changed in the last 15 years. We all laugh at the likes of Allen and Lallana getting knocked around like rag dolls but there was a time when guys like that were common place in top flight football, the size of the average player now is clearly not natural. Look at the transformation in the likes of Ronaldo and Bale, its freakish like Barry Bonds

Yup.
Bale and Ronaldo are two absolute certs to be doping.

I said it when this article was posted a while back:

Real Madrid 'concerned' about Cristiano Ronaldo's regular trips to Morocco to 'cuddle friend' as form dips - Mirror Online
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/real-madrid-concerned-cristiano-ronaldos-6952537

It was painted by the mirror as Ronaldo being gay. But the fella he visits a lot in Morocco is a known PED user who has been banned himself.

If i was in Ronaldos position i'd have a private jet to take me to a country where you can PEDS that won't be traced back to you.

Slightly unrelated note but this has just reminded me of the Nba basketball player that was caught using some sort of hand adhesive to help grip the ball , he was eventually pulled up on it last month after players noticed and complained or whatever and the guy just comes out and says he's no cheat but has been using the stuff for the past five years !

To be honest I don't see what advantage gloves or this sort of gel or whatever could gain you in basketball anyway

Hahaha, that's Dwight Howard from the Rockets. If I remember correctly, he sprayed that from a can that had the label taped over. 😉 He's still going to miss the playoffs though (or I hope he does!).

So if Leicester, Arsenal and Chelsea get docked enough points we can still make top four? It's the hope that kills you.

And this is based on....what, exactly?

Can's 100m sprint time.
Henderson's ability to recover from injury.
And Sakho, well .... black people always do drugs don't they ?

There's no great candidates in our squad.

Previous Chelsea squads are a different matter entirely.

His sprint time? What has he gone sub 10 seconds?
And Henderson still doesn't look fit to me.

As for Sakho, well, it did look a bit like he was on LSD in the first half, but that's not really a PED is it?

Not unless you're a musician or an artist, anyway.

6 foot plus heavily built muscular players who can run flat out for 90 minutes are slightly suspicious. I didnt say they were doped, but they are the ones Id be testing first

Sakho isn't heavily built, he's lean.

And he covers less ground in a game than the majority of our players since he's a centre back.

Lot of smoke if you google for Barcelona performance enhancing drugs. Lot of connections between Dr. Fuentes and Dr. Del Moral ( the US Postal cycling team guy) and Valencia, Real Sociedad ( the 2002-2003 team which finished second), and Barcelona.

Pep Guardiola was caught using a banned substance when he played for Brescia. He was absolved of the charges but lot of unhappiness at the way the trial was handled. Apparently the same doctor Ramon Segura, became one of the head doctors at Barcelona.

Real Sociedad president admitted to having a separate set of accounts which showed nearly 300000 euros worth of "mysterious" medicines in addition to the regular medicines supplied by Dr. Fuentes.

What other ones could be used @darkstarexodus ?

Albuterol (salbutamol) inhaler/tans, clenbuterol, ephedrine, pseudoephrine, amphetamines (dexamphetamine, methylphenidate), modafanil are all among some of the obvious ones.

Thyroid supplements to keep weight off and increase metabolism.

Anabolic steroids of course - aid in recovery and maintain muscle mass and conditioning amidst a strenuous season.

Diuretics - piss out the evidence of other banned drugs.

Sodium bicarbonate - reduces the effects of lactic acid on over exerted muscle (increase work capacity) - causes diarrhea though.

Growth hormone, EPO and analogues.

Those are the obvious ones off the top of my head. Sharapova's drug was a new one for me as its not available this side of the ocean. Probably plenty of one's like that from Asia I'd imagine.

I'm still laughing over the Mirror's photo caption - Chums: Cristiano Ronaldo and Badr Hari. Chums indeed.

But if you read up on Badr Hari's criminal exploits you get to this:

It was revealed in August 2013 that the police found during a house search at Badr Hari's apartment on 22 July 2012 the substanceanapolon, which is an anabolic steroid and one of the strongest substances to improve your stamina according to the Dutch Doping Authority. They also found tamoxifen, substance that is used to reduce the side effects of steroids. Also another three types of drugs which are also on the list of banned substances were found, injectable Human Growth Hormone (enotropin), furosemide and one more. According to the lawyer of Badr Hari the substances didn’t belong to Hari but to other people.[91][92]

And one of the worlds top footballers flies out on his private jet to visit him regularly ?

Seems weird to go see a famous fighter caught for doping, then publicly letting 10s of millions of people know about meeting him, just so he can get drugged up himself. Why wouldn't he be more discreet?

A few reasons - look at how it was reported, did any papers make the connection ?

Also because it's virtually impossible to catch people doping with the current testing system / blind eyes being turned / assistance from sporting organisations. And the general public still believe if you haven't been caught you must be clean.

Ireland defended Michelle Smith's olympic feats when doubts were cast upon her amazing improvement following her marriage to a known PED user and distributor. People still think she might have been clean even after the whiskey laced urine sample she gave.

Badr Hari constantly seems to be in the paper over here on assault charges. It always seems to be in really expensive yet shit places.
