Occasionally I glance at the Championship table to see how Newcastle is doing. I noticed that Huddersfield, managed by Klopp's mate Wagner, is in third position with a decent shot at automatic promotion places. Apparently they have been in great form the last 3 months also.

I have limited knowledge of the clubs which frequent the championship and have no clue about the size of the club he is managing. For those of you who follow the championship, how impressive of an achievement is this?

I saw a piece on Match of the Day or something about Huddersfield and it would seem Wagner and Klopp have a similar approach to the game. Much of the rhetoric around team spirit, bonding, relationship with fans etc being just as important as talent. By all accounts Huddersfield are punching well above their weight. Good luck to him.

Its a very big achievement, look at Huddersfield league position over the last decade...not once have they come close to playing in the prem.

Hes working with a mediocre squad and is overachieving.

They finished 19th last season, 16th season before and 17th season before that.

Think they were in league 1 not so long ago.

Promotion to premier league would be the biggest achievement in the clubs history.

Much more important is their keeper Danny Ward belongs to us and is getting great experience and is doing ok.

They have been amazing this season. I can't find the stats to prove that they play the gegenpressing that Klopp likes i.e. they run more kilometres than any other team per game but it certainly appears that way to me. They have spent fuck all and taken on a few rejects from other clubs like La Parra and Kachunga and got a couple of cracking loan signings in Mooy (Aussie from Man City) and Isy Brown (on loan from Chelsea since Xmas). They work very hard for each other and as such don't destroy teams the way Brighton and Newcastle have been doing....................Newcastle and Brighton have about +30 goal difference whereas Huddersfield are close behind on points but with a +8 goal difference.

Huddersfield are traditionally a lower league club in England and haven't played top flight football for over 45 years. Prior to that they were quite successful and famously won the top division 3 times in a row in the 1920's and equally famously were the opposition for LFC on my first ever visit to Anfield in 1972, we won 5-0! I think they got relegated that season and haven't been back since.

There are similarities in style with Klopp and further evidence of that is that Huddersfield also had a very poor run of results over a 6 week period earlier in the season; in 8 league matches from mid-Oct to early December they picked up 5 points but have bounced back spectacularly. Hopefully the 2-0 win over Spurs is the first of our spectacular bounce back to form.

For the record I'd love to see Huddersfield back in the EPL, hopefully (after yesterday's sacking) at Leicester's expense.

I've seen that Mooy several times and he's been both tidy and influential in the midfield. I think he could play at a higher level.
