Is he any good? I mean they'd soldify their defense with him + Vermaelen, and Marquez as a back up (or even DM).
 
DWM knows his football but I reckon there's a possibility that the Arse may accept the offer. Fibreglass has made his intentions clear enough to give Barca a strong hand in the negotiations. There's admittedly a debate to be had over Chygrynskij and Marquez but Wenger's record for signing defenders isn't the best anyway.
 
I was at the UEFA Cup final between Shaktar and Bremen and thought he was excellent - read the game well and his distribution was outstanding. I was very impressed.

He's not got many chances for Barca this year and was a bit of an odd purchase (especially at that price) considering the number of centre backs they have - maybe the situation in the CL final made influenced the decision, but whenver he's played he's been poor. He's looked very slow, out of sync with the rest of the team and made a lot of mistakes. He's not really had a chance to settle into the team, but in that side right now, you have to take your chances and he hasn't. Barca had a summer on a par with our Keane/Dossena/Riera summer... wasted a lot of money.

I think Wenger would prefer to get 10 million more cash. A part-exchange including two CBs of which one is rather unproven (I know he won the Europa League with Shakhtar but he didn't impress at Barca so far) and the other one is past his best and sure no longer fast enough for the Premier League.

Additional 10 million could buy you a decent CB which is proven in English football after all.
 
Fabregas is worth at least £40M.

Arsenal should stick to their guns on this one.
 
I honestly dont see any more than one Barca player coming to Arsenal, if there was to be a swap deal.

I'd rather we held out for money than get involved in any swaps. I don't want to give them our best player and replace him with someone they no longer deem necessary.

This is just building up to a dig at Arsenals transfer policy but i really do despise the way they and Madrid go about their business. It's disgusting, and Wenger bends over for them almost every single time.

Abidal is always injured, and well Maxwell isnt Barcelona class. Clichy is always being mentioned for barca and even clichy came out and said he wanted to move there. If they dont go for him, they would go for FELIPE as they tried last summer but it didnt happen.
 
I think they should purchase a new LB but don't think Clichy isn't the answer. When he emerged into the Arsenal first team, I was very impressed but he is a bit suspect in defence. He is rash, prone to errors and usually uses his pace to mask/cover his mistakes.
 
Was he free or part of the Zlatan deal? I can't remember a fee being mentioned.

I was once a fan of Abidal but he seems to have gone backwards since he left Lyon.
 
Decent pick up so. Half a Doss and a better player.

I saw Maxwell getting skinned a few times though. He is tidy and decent going forward. Sounds a bit like Insua and they could probably do better.

when alonso was going to real (and this could be pure speculation) apparently we were offered the likes of robben and sneijder but passed because we wanted the 30m up front, well a fat lot of good that money did.

I read an article that Higuain was offered in the deal but no we had to take the money. FFS.

Some didn't want Robben. He was too injury prone and a cunt. I would have taken either. Robben is a cunt but he is one of the best wingers in the world. Sneijder is quality aswel.

From my recollection of the story I think Rafa was keen to take one or two of the forementioned players in the deal that sent Xabi to Real but H&G insisted on a cash only deal.
 
I feel a bit sorry for the Arsenal fans, but only because I know this is exactly what awaits us. I.e losing our best players.

The fans of Servette, ASEC Mimosas, Beveren, Cannes, Bastia, Monaco, Parma, Copenhagen, Guadalajara have felt your anguish before, and are lucky to get a hundredth of the reported Fabregas price. I know why you are worried because the deal resembles that of the Alonso one last year and that partly led to Liverpool's downfall but I would trust Wenger with 30 or 40 million than I would Benitez. At least Arsenal have fantastic replacements should he leave (Ramsey, Diaby, Rosicky, Nasri, Denilson, Song, even Wilshere and Merida) whereas we had to give Lucas an almost ever-present season which was similar to this...
