If of course we don't think 40m plus Bojan and Hleb is a good deal.
Nope, would easily rather have £60-70m. Hleb is another version of Benayoun, Bojan wouldn't hack it at the top in this league.
He doesn't need to hack it at the top. Just 6th or 7th.
I'd take the above deal in a heartbeat. Use the 40m for another striker and a lb and were already in far better shape without spending a penny.
I'm interested to see in which cost bracket you'd rate Bojan at?
Im not really bothered about net values and the like. Bojan is a very good player and an accomplished goalscorer in a top top league and he's only about 18 (broke into the barca first team at 16) and I think he'd be terrific for us. Hlebs a good player and would add an option to our rubbish squad and 40m is 40m.
All that for the best striker in the world who only plays half a season, or trying to use player sales elsewhere to plug our creaking squad.
Ideally we'd keep Torres AND sign some talent but it looks unlikely.

I don't think there's any doubt in his ability, but without the creativity of that Barca side, I think he'd struggle to impose himself on any sort of consistent basis with our and the league's style of play, the opportunity cost of getting him rather than £10-12m extra in a swap isn't worth it imo.

Hleb would add an option, but its an option we arguably have covered give or take in Yossi. I would much rather invest big in some improvements that our first team is crying out for if we absolutely had to sell Nando, rather than taking a sizeable cut in the fee to take on squaddies before we've even had the chance to invest dough in our main problem areas.

It's not a good deal.

If we're valuing Torres at around 70M, it means Bojan and Hleb are being valued at 30M, which is ridiculous.

Give me 40 million + Bojan + Busquests + 2 of their best Barcelona B prospects and I'd be happy.

I'd rather we just didn't sell him.

The way people go on about Riise, Arbeloa and Crouch being the greatest things ever on here, imagine what it will be like without Torres following a game when we miss a couple of chances.

This.

People were not prepared to pay 70 million for Crouch though were they. It makes the whole thing incomparable.

I'd rather take the money and raid the Real Madrid team.
Hig and Benzema = Hypothetical Heaven.
That's only if we had to sell him.

I honestly think Torres will stay. Once Barca sign Villa what club could afford him? Also what club would interest Torres personally?
Only Chelsea and City could afford him in the premiership. Only Chelsea can offer CL football but would Torres sign for another english club.
He won't go to Madrid and if Barca sign Villa they won't be in the market for another expensive striker. That leaves Italy. Inter have Milito and Eto'o already. Juve haven't made CL so that is less attractive and questions would have to be asked whether AC Milan could fork out 60-70million for him.

I think he could be convinced to play for another English club if he really felt we were going nowhere. I certainly wouldn't rule it out like many others do. As for whether it would be good for the club, well it's impossible to determine without knowing who will be spending it and how much of the fee they are allowed to use.
I dont think Torres is worth anywhere near that given his injury record the last two and a bit years.
Not that it matters hypothetically and all.
Obviously in fantasy land id rather have Messi and Xavi but if the deal offered to Valencia is 40m plus Bojan and Hleb and that was offered to us given our squad needs id more than likely take it.

whatever happend to hleb? Has he suffered from injuries or is he not good enough for Barca? based on his arsenal days he would walk into our current first XI.

Same Israeli site is reporting that Cesc will sign for 4 years with Barca once a transfer fee is agreed. He has supposedly said he wants it wrapped up before the world cup so he can play with a 'quiet head'.

Unless you're content with 6th or 7th, Oncy, anyone coming in certainly does need to hack it at the top or we'll never get back up there.

On the other hand he's been injured a fair bit this season and with the 50m or so Wenger can buy 10 fantastic 5m pound players.

I've got a mate who does dead fancy AV stuff and home automation systems, done the likes of Robbie Keane, quoted for John Terry (who apparently said "I want the best of everything!" and then wondered why it was so expensive) and is currently quoting for Theo Walcott.

According to him, Cesc has just bought a new house in a spankingly expensive part of St. Albans and might be getting them in to have a look round.

Take from that what you will, but being as the installations they do usually run in the months and cost six figure sums, this might seem to indicate he's going nowhere

Villa was linked with a £40 move to Man utd today.

I can't imagine their board would sanction paying so much for a 29/30 year old.

Barca Doing Big Things - Villa Almost Wrapped Up, Fabregas Next

Arsenal FC transfer latest - Cesc Fabregas and David Villa Both Close to Barcelona Transfers

Is Cesc Fabregas finally set to sign for Barcelona?(credit: ryushu)
Bettingpro Staff - 18 May 2010
Spanish side’s vice-president says negotiations underway with both players

Barcelona vice-president Rafael Yuste has confirmed that the club are in negotiations with both Cesc Fabregas and David Villa over summer transfers to the Spanish giants.

The La Liga champions are keen to tie up their transfer dealings as early as possible this summer, and have made both Spain internationals their main priorities, and Yuste admitted that the club are confident that deals can be done with both players.

"Negotiations are progressing well especially in the case of Villa.

"The situation with Cesc is different because even if you have the will of the player it is very important to talk to his club and, if you can, find an agreement.

"But what makes it easier is that both players want to come to Barca."

The news is likely to anger Arsene Wenger, who is looking to re-build his own squad, and sees captain Fabregas as a crucial player in the Gunners’ future.

It would, however, not be the first time that Barcelona have swooped an Arsenal star, with Giovani van Bronckhurst, Marc Overmars, Sylvinho, Emmanuel Petit and Thierry Henry all having swapped London for Barcelona in recent years.

Fabregas is odds on (5/6, SkyBet) to be a Barcelona player after the summer transfer window.

So Zlatan might be looking for a move back to Serie A?

Or Man City?
