I know what you're saying but Salah has almost 100 senior goals and should have slightly more licence to 'take responsibility' though. I imagine this inclination in Jones would be mitigated by playing in the senior team. This isn't the Mo Salah thread 😉
Actually I don't think you got me .. I was just taking the piss 😉I know what you're saying but Salah has almost 100 senior goals and should have slightly more licence to 'take responsibility' though. I imagine this inclination in Jones would be mitigated by playing in the senior team.
I have no problem with him taking control too much, it'll stand him in good stead when more experienced players are having an off day. Confidence is something that's harnessed and moulded. Enthusiasm is what saw Gerrard get cards in the early days but it's also what saw him singlehandedly win games. He's in the best hands to utilise that as a strength rather than a weakness. You want your most experienced players to try to take control at every level. He may have over elaborated, but the enthusiasm and confidence was right, he'll learn to channel it better.
I find some of the comments on here head scratching. One paced? No more or less so than Gini and Lallana, or even Henderson who is no slouch but hardly light footed either, or Fabinho who is arguably the most one paced of our midfielders (and it barely effects him).
If he settles into a midfield three it's neither here nor there, as our midfielders rely on being quick footed and minded, rather than quick paced. And he certainly has the touch, skill and awareness to make it work.

I really like him. Williams is my pick though, but with those two and Elliot we have three players who could well be first team candidates in the next 6-12 months.
One paced meaning he doesn't have that short distance acceleration burst which Hendo, Gini, and Fab all have which is crucial for them to nip in to challenge for the ball.
Jones doesn't operate that way. At least I have not seen that in his game. He is like Jamie Redknapp, another one paced player, good midfielder, but wouldn't suit Klopp's combative midfield setup.

Is Neco more mature than Williams?I think Curtis is a more mature player than Jones, tbh
I think he has time on his side with regards to development tho. He’s still a young lad. He could be something special. Could be.I just don't see it. He is nowhere near the level of any of our midfielders. The closest thing I see him becoming is Andreas Pereira unfortunately. One paced, runs around alot, committed, neat and tidy but lacking in creativity, lacking in defensive strength, basically a decent player in a mid table team.
There's a post I found somewhere (LiverpoolFC.com perhaps) that describes how Klopp has dumbed down Keita's natural high risk high gain game for a more possession based version. One of the statistical examples given was that his dribbles are down from 7.x to 3.x per game. This however still suits him though since he has superb control and technical skills.I disagree with the negative comments, they mostly revolve around Jones lack of pace or acceleration. Yes those things are important but a few of klopp's favorite midfieders players lack pace or acceleration. I wouldn't describe Milner Henderson, Fabinho as quick players, what they are good at is thinking extremely quickly. I think Jones already shows he had that speed of thought that is essential for Klopps system.
Infact you could look at Keita and say the reason he had struggled to settle in is because speed of thought wise he looked slow especially in the beginning. Pace and acceleration is one thing but if you are slow mentality then that's just as bad.
Williams is definitely showing more signs of progressing than Jones imo.
I know he's only 16 but as good on the eye as he is on the ball, I think he needs to add more directness in his game in looking to shoot more often.
Even at u23 level, It's Jones who registers all the goals and assists.
Or maybe like Jones, he's better suited in an advanced midfield 3 role rather than a front 3 role.
Yeah could defo see him as a #10. He has the control, vision and skill to pull off deft passes and dinks whilst he's excellent at retaining control under pressure. And he's 16. Hard to get my head around that - imagine another 4 years under Klopp!I dont know where Elliot will ultimately end up, doenst seem to have the raw pace to play as a winger/wide forward. He seems more suited to a no10 or at the tip of a midfield diamond. He reminds me a lot of Harry Kewell when he came through at Leeds, not that quick but his technique and vision is on the level of a guy who has been in the first team for 5 or 6 years.
