I think ultimately it's down to a complete lack of control...but was that lack of control or heavy handedness down to the volume of our fans? They expected the worst so started to kick shit out of people

[article]PSG's Women's team faced Lyon at the Stade Jean-Bouin in Paris on Sunday, only 24 hours after Liverpool lost 1-0 to Real Madrid in the Stade de France, with Liverpool supporters subjected to hostile treatment from French authorities before kick off.

During the match, home supporters unveiled a huge banner which read '28/05/22 Police prefects, votre incompetence aux yeux du monde', which translates in English as 'Police prefects, your incompetence in the eyes of the world'.[/article]

You would think after all terrorist attacks in the past (of course, they were horrific incidents), plus the covid lockdowns, Charlie Hebdo, etc, you would think the authorities and the entire city would be A LOT more equipped and prepared for a sporting event like this.

To call them amateurs isn't justice enough to soothe the outrage they've caused. Someone needs to take the fall for this, and i'm not sure who.

Konate should at least tweet something in French. It's his city. What's the point of all that dragonball shit if you're too coward to speak up in a time such as this.

How is Konate supposed to be spokesman when he was in the coach that arrived 90mins before kick off.
He wasn’t there at gates and entrances lead upto it, it wouldn’t be helpful.
Reminds me of Michael Vaughan’s immediate aftermath of Manchester post going after Moeen Ali. Get some prespective.
Calling 22 yr old French kid who plays for Liverpool a coward is a bit of an over reaction, he’s not a spokesperson for Incompetent French Authorities. It’s more appropriate club investigate and report their own findings followed by a good old Lawsuit in good time.

I was lucky - I didn't get tear gas or pepper spray & I got in eventually. But being pressed against a locked gate, while stewards & police looked on impassively, triggered all sorts of emotions & memories. Barely remember the match. I felt better on Sunday, but its got worse since I came home. I'm not in Woland's camp, but I will think long & hard before I go back to another European final

I was involved in two crushes, one at the Madrid end entering the concourse and then one outside the Liverpool end around Gate Y/Z as I was trying to get to my gate (A).

Then got tear gassed at my gate waiting patiently for the gate to open.

An absolute shitshow, I cant believe how many French locals were running about causing mayhem and the police just didnt have a plan to control them so we got caught in the crossfire.

Same as you, it didnt quite hit me until yesterday when I got home, I was depressed as fuck all day and was struggling to process. Even worse today being back in work and having to go over it all again with anyone who asks.

I will be going to finals in future but I will do my homework first on the venue and surrounding area before I think about attending. Wont ever be going back to Paris (or France for that matter). Fucking shithole.

I've told anyone at work i may be able to talk about it in a few days, but for now don't ask. Most of them get it, one or two don't, but to be fair they don't know my history and arent as familiar with Hillsborough as most in england

It's a fair question but, according to the security expert I heard interviewed on the Beeb earlier, the answer is no. There is apparently a shedload of preparatory work which the French simply didn't do. Whether that was because of incompetence or prejudice (or a mixture of both) is something UEFA's enquiry will need to decide.

Really feel for all the people had to experience this horrible shit show of lack of organisation, abuse and then the classic dodging responsibility of those in power.
But not least for those who also had to deal with all the horrible memories from Hillsborough coming back due to this.
Can't really believe what I saw, now in this age. Such incompetence.

I'm never going to a football match again. I'm surprised i ever did after Hillsborough but I love the sport and I love my friends. I've stuck through it for who knows what reason, but that's it, I'm out.

Really hope you're alright man. Not being an insensitive twat here, genuinely curious, but I thought you jibbed the football a few years ago?

But yeah, that wasn't pleasant Saturday night. So glad of the break now.

Was there an official Govt response to this?
Like did Nadine make any statement? I'm assuming it's part of her role as sports minister?

And reminder why lfc fans are so anti establishment and govt

Nope. She's been too busy sucking Boris off and selling Chelsea.

Yeah I know I'm full of shit and I swing from here and there, but I didn't ever stop going to the footy. I'm happy if you still enjoy it.

She's Sec.of State for Culture, Media and Sport, boss lady of the whole Dept. Next level down there is a Sports Minister, name of Nigel Hudleston (represents a constituency next door to mine), and he has issued a statement. It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out within France - many French folk have long had problems with the way their police, esp.the riot police, behave anyway and some of the French media are picking up on this aspect of the situation.

The blurb under the headline says he's having to explain himself to the French Senate on Wednesday.

As an aside, Darmanin is a Maltese surname. It wouldn't surprise me if members of his family have been in his ear about all this.

Cover-up's begun to unravel. Seems the Deputy Mayor of Paris was close by a group of Liverpool fans and has confirmed there was no trouble there.

The senate meeting is live on YouTube with english translation, my blood is boiling with the bullshit that is being spouted, it's an absolute disgrace, barefaced lies being continued:
