It's almost like they haven't realised it's 2022 and social media will cycle through the lies and denials.

Day 3 and already on excuse 3.

I'm sorry anyone had to endure that.

At least it seems that even the French media arent accepting the line that UEFA and the French authorities are presenting.

There are reports in the Spanish media of Real fans having the same issues with the locals and the police.

Have to say i've been hugely surprised by the level of media support - in most cases not just reporting on it factually, but with a level of emotion you rarely see. I guess a lot of the media reporters were caught up in, but it is a stark contrast to anything I can recall historically about football fans.

Might be because they all hate the French more than Liverpool?

Uefa has commissioned an independent report into the scenes that delayed Saturday's Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.
More to follow.

Never felt so unsafe at a footy game.
The amount of youths that were hanging around at the game while the police watched was shocking.
The narrow security tunnels check posts police allowed had so many hangers whom obviously had no tickets but were happy to just clog it up and brush arse to arse hoping to pick pocket while police allowed was just a starter.
Never had experienced effects of tear gas before, just thought it was french hay fever but let’s leave it there.
If it wasn’t for how LFC fans managed themselves, could have been shocking.
Is this the first big game Stade de France? Not sure how this hasn’t happened before.
Hope everyone got back home safe.

Just in case I forget, the claim that the shambles was due to fake tickets is bollocks - at the fan park, where tickets were not needed, things were unprepared, inadequate, intimidating, and confrontational.

PS I seriously doubt the French plod use pepper spray - they'll have either tear gas or CS gas.

If there was as many blag tickets as they suggest we would have heard about it. I was in Paris from Friday night and was never offered one (as a comparison I was being offered blags every 5 minutes in Athens). I was even asking for spares as we approached the stadium (not that we needed them, its just a force of habit) and nothing ...

UEFA, the Paris riot police and the French government are playing the roles of the FA, SYP and Thatchers mob this time. The difference is they are not being allowed get away with it .. even in France.

I was lucky - I didn't get tear gas or pepper spray & I got in eventually. But being pressed against a locked gate, while stewards & police looked on impassively, triggered all sorts of emotions & memories. Barely remember the match. I felt better on Sunday, but its got worse since I came home. I'm not in Woland's camp, but I will think long & hard before I go back to another European final

Difficult to know the scale for sure. I was offered one for 60 quid in Liverpool without even actively seeking a ticket. Someone just knew I was a fan.

In this day and age it should be impossible to get near a CL final with a fake ticket. The CL final destination needs to have the space and facilities to ensure a proper vetting procedure as its completely different from a standard game of football. And that's before you even consider the risk of a terror threat at the game.

You can forgive a delayed start to a game if fakes were causing issues on the day. What's unforgivable is the intimidation, violence and assault people experienced. The French sound like they're trying to pin it down to one issue to distract from their woeful mismanagement of the operation.

Thankfully journalists seem to be universally calling them out on their bullshit.

You would think after all terrorist attacks in the past (of course, they were horrific incidents), plus the covid lockdowns, Charlie Hebdo, etc, you would think the authorities and the entire city would be A LOT more equipped and prepared for a sporting event like this.

To call them amateurs isn't justice enough to soothe the outrage they've caused. Someone needs to take the fall for this, and i'm not sure who.

Konate should at least tweet something in French. It's his city. What's the point of all that dragonball shit if you're too coward to speak up in a time such as this.

Konate wasn't outside. And the club have clearly said its unhelpful to point fingers without the full facts.

A crowd security expert was on Radio 5 Breakfast this morning ripping the French excuses to shreds.

In answer to an earlier question, I'm not sure to what extent the Stade de France has been used for big football matches but it's been used for some considerable time to host rugby internationals, which would mainly involve British opposition, with no trouble.

France should be banned from hosting international tournament matches until (a) a properly independent enquiry has reported its findings and (b) the French authorities have made any necessary amends, no matter how long that all takes.

Not a reason to direct your fire at our own player though. He's probably even more mortified than anyone else at the club.

I was only outside the fan park. Was not offered any tickets.

It was too small. I'm not good at estimating, but I thought there were a lot more people there than in Madrid.

Outside, there were no bins ("Scousers drop lots of litter"), just two or three toilets ("Scousers piss against trees/bushes").

Entry to the fan park was shambolic. No tickets were needed, so just a pat down and 'On you go lad' ? Nope, large queues, manned by riot plod, for no apparent reason. Very slow, only reason I can think of was to wind people up and/or cause issues. No drinks could be taken inside.

There was a bunch of 50-100 local lads turned up halfway through the 2nd half. Felt dodgy, even more so when 50 odd motorcycle plod (one rider, with a goon behind on each bike) showed up. For a while, we were between the local lads and the bikes, and a row of riot plod with shields and sticks out. A tad nervy.

That's it with the factual reporting. Here's a conspiracy theory for you ...

... if evil fuckers in UEFA, Madrid, and the French authorities, decided in advance to fuck things up to delay the kick-off, how much of an advantage would it be to Ancellotti to know, in advance, that kick-off would be delayed ? Considerable, imho.
