Crystal Palace v Liverpool

They're all mates with Woy innit.
This.

Plus, if they say it's unfair then it creates more headlines & leads to obvious easy follow up stories involving VAR & stats.

I think every penalty that's deemed unfair by anyone this season will come in for similar scrutiny, & will continue until VAR is brought into the Premier League.

Palace don't regard him like that, he saved their arse last season. He's also fondly remembered at West Brom and Fulham. Even Inter had nice things to say about him.

At his level, and at the right sort of club and circumstances, he's a decent enough manager.

I've never liked him, though, even before he was our manager. Because he's a grumpy, snooty twat and says things like "vis-a-vis"
Us and Blackburn and England fans hate the fucker.

Yeah, I know that he's fondly thought of, and Palace supporters love the arl cunt. The fact is, he took a team that lost 7 straight games at the start of last season and has turned them into a very decent side. I'm very glad to have that fixture out of the way.

Yep. Blood Red (the echo lfc podcast, worth a listen imo, though they're all very different in terms of quality & content there's loads every week for free) had a Palace fan on who thinks Woy walks on water. They fucking love him.

Tbf it's exactly his level that he's found himself back at, after trying to be a top tier manager he's settled back to where he belongs, managing a mid tier club with no real aspirations.

This Palace team is not bad at all. They have good players, dare to attack and seem to pull the shift together. Quite a few teams are going to leave this stadium with wounds to heal. We had crucial moments going our way. Sakho made about 3 fouls in one to give away a penalty inside a crowded Box just before they could regroup at half time. And Salah didn't have a great touch just before he was brought down. Looks like he actually goes in that direction as the chance of being clipped is extreme high. The red didn't win us the game but gave us an upper hand in the run in of the game.

And we proved again that we are more dangerous when the opposition has a corner than when we have one.

I fucking despise everything about Palace and that utter helmet Hodgson. A cracking three points. nice to get that away out of the way so soon and great to wind up their shitty fans with a 'dubious' pen. Not dubious at all, it was a pen.

He has found a niche there which suits him. He does a far better job than Fat Sam and Pulis to name a couple in the same bracket (Clubs not style). I saw in the build up where he talked about the impact of Zaha committing to the club had for the Club itself and it gave the chairman something to plan the Club around. He didn't seem obsessed with the opportunity it gave him as a manager.

Thought Bobby and Salah looked a bit off the pace and we looked a bit knackered in the second half. Hendo on was the right call and to think we still have Fab to call on too. So pleasant to not have your heart in your mouth every time a cross comes in. So comfortable at the back considering they are a pacy, tricky team with some real quality. luckily they insist on starting that useless twat Benteke up front. Absolute helmet.

It was interesting to see Salah's reactions to the screams of "Cheat! Cheat! Cheat!" from the home support. He looked genuinely down about it, and you could almost see him trying extra hard to score one with no shadow of controversy when he was making future runs in behind. I have a feeling that really got to him though, as well know that isn't in his game at all.

IMO Hodgson is a good manager. As we saw last night, he has made Palace into a team to be reckoned with.

He was just unlucky at Anfield. The loss of Mascherano combined with a very tough series of early fixtures led to loss of confidence.

He came into a club shorn of confidence, with no money, rampant paranoia and very recent ownership troubles. Plus a terrible squad.

And then he made things worse, because he wasn't ever a good fit for a club like Liverpool, regardless of circumstances.

This goes too far for me, old friend. Hodgson is a good manager at his level, namely managing the likes of Crystal Palace. Liverpool and England were far above his level and he bombed accordingly in those jobs.

They have a lot of Pre Season fatigue in them still. We saw last season that Salah missed quite a few very open chances early season, but as he got fresher he was able to score for fun. Same With Bobby. He took some time to get into gear but from then he was immense.

In fairness they played great football last night and would have deserved a goal had they scored before the sending off

How about Wijnaldum?

I thought he played well yesterday. Helped the defence keep Benteke in check, positioned himself well and played it simple. Didn't look completely lost at DM.
Have to admit that it did look a tad bit better with Henderson though, but they did also play with 10 men during most of his time on the pitch.

Is Klopp going to change a winning team?

TAA yesterday:
0 tackles, 0 Key passes, 0 Aerial duels won, 13 crosses - 2 accurate, 2 fouls only Mane had more and the only player to get booked.

That's stats for ya...

That is a very weird way to sum up his game.

He had 3 interceptions, where the Three other fullbacks made one between them.
He is not our tallest guy and with VVD winning 9 aerial duels, Gomez, Robbo and Trent did one between them.
He had 13 crosses, where the other fullbacks in the game made one between them. He had, by Your weird summary, twice as many accurate crosses than the other fullbacks in the same game had total crosses.
And he got booked. What a shame. He must stop being booked.

Wow man.

The point was stats can be skewed, but since you brought it up...nah fuck it.
TAA was Cafu on steroids last night, sorry I was wrong.

I think his performances last season have raised the bar of expectations higher. He was always a useful outlet for us down the right, keeping the pressure on Palace. He was largely up against one of the best wide forwards in the league and handled him well. Not 100% but then lets see how other FBs do against him throughout the season.

What more were you expecting against such an organised defence and chaotic attacker?

Modo is confusing me. He was always a big Trent fan. But now seems a bigger Clyne fan and therefore casting poor Trent aside. Can't you like both Modo?

I've no dog in this fight. I like Clyne, he's steady and usually consistent. Trent will make mistakes but has a bit of star quality about him. I'll leave the decision up to Klopp, it's what he gets paid for.

It all started going downhill when he heard Trent speak.

I love Trent, but I just rate Clyne more at right back. During his first two seasons he probably was our most consistent defender.
It's fantastic seeing a kid make it, especially a local kid and a fan, I love his free kicks and crosses and I expect him to move to CM soon. But for some reason I trust Clyne more. He played well during pre season and seems to have put his injury troubles behind him.
I agree it's a bit of a luxury to have both there, but at the moment I'd rather play Clyne against pacy technical wingers away than Trent, at least the Clyne from a year ago.

I agree with a lot of the above but for the sake of the forum, please don't make it a crusade to pick holes in Trent just to extol the virtues of Clyne.

I'd probably lean towards picking Trent myself but I'm also a big Clyne fan.

I'm not sure I see the move to midfield coming any time soon. I think he is really starting to get comfortable with what is expected of a Premier League full back. His attacking qualities were there from the outset and he is really starting to nail both positioning, reading the game and how to stand up opponents down the wing. As long as we play with such attacking full backs, i don't think we'll see him moved into the midfield trio.

Does a loss of confidence lead to spouting a hatful of quotable crap before / after every match and to wasting bucket loads buying utter shite ? If so I can now understand all that for the very first time 😉

Not only Zaha but also Van Aanhout and the very pacy Schlupp. Probably the strongest (and fastest bar none) left side in the league bar City and ourselves.
