Crystal Palace v Liverpool

i dont see trent ever moving into midfield. i dont see a place for him, and he has made a starting spot his own on the right

I think his performances last season have raised the bar of expectations higher. He was always a useful outlet for us down the right, keeping the pressure on Palace. He was largely up against one of the best wide forwards in the league and handled him well. Not 100% but then lets see how other FBs do against him throughout the season.

What more were you expecting against such an organised defence and chaotic attacker?

Zaha scored 9 goals and had 5 assists last year.

He's hardly one of the best wide forwards in the league.

Hazard got 12 goals and 4 assists.
Martial got 9 goals and 5 assists
Rashford got 7 goals and 5 assists
Sane got 10 goals and 15 assists
Mane got 10 goals and 7 assists
Eriksen got 10 goals and 10 assists

I don't think you should even be using stats to 'prove' someone's quality. But if you were to do so, there are a bunch of players considered to be in the group of best wide forwards in the league (if you discount those who are the v. top e.g. Salah, Sterling, Alexis). He is in the ball park and he's playing with Christian Benteke!!

Quite, and that last point is crucial BTW. Look at the teams those others play for, and the quality they have around them compared with Zaha. It's like those who try and say that George Best - the greatest footballer I've ever seen, bar none - wasn't all that because he never did anything at the World Cup with Norn Iron.

Or why John Barnes never did anything at the World Cup with England.

🙂

Sorry to bring this up all - but do you guys think Salah has actually recovered from that CL injury ? - I am asking this because there was one moment in last nights game he was given the ball on the right hand side - and there were 3 CP players approaching him to take the ball, I noticed his running stance - it was not like last season where he had that slight hunch - his attempt at dribbling looked at bit strange to. Those of you who actually go to the matches and have seen the way he runs with the ball normally will have a better idea.

Not complaining about him before some of you get too emotional with me - just saying I noticed something odd, but despite that - he got us a pen, a sending off, and an assist for Mane to score.

I doubt it's directly related to his injury.

It may be indirectly related (in that he's hesitant to lead into players with it but isn't aware that he is), or may be simply some hesitancy on his part due to his body not being as fast to react as he's used to as he's rusty.

I wouldn't look into it too much, I have no doubt the club have noticed it, if indeed it has changed, they have staff who literally collate videos & look for these things.

Lovren is going to have his work cut out shifting Gomez.

That was a really good win, and what I liked is that we played a bit like champions. Ruthless, and a bit cleverer than we've been in recent years. Not so much dirty as putting ourselves about and not being bullied.
Gomez has quietly been coming up the rank, hasn't he? I liked the way he dealt with Benteke who has in the past bullied pretty much all our centre-halves.

I think you saw the same start of last season. A bit rusty and the opposition is very aware of his presence. He will be fine when his legs get used to the match tempo, and rythm within our attack is even more settled.

His whole touch seems just a tad out. As we all know he started last season a little bit hit and miss (and was attracting pelters from a number of posters) and I'm sure he'll find his feet as we proceed. If he is still managing to be productive when he's playing at about 60% then we can't complain too much, but it will be nice to see him fully up to speed.

Salah? Was attracting abuse at the start of the season? Don't remember that. Not saying it didn't happen like.

He still has strapping around that shoulder - whether that's more for psychological reasons rather than actual physical ones I don't know - and I noticed after one fall he got up touching that same place. It's probably just something he'll forget about once he's back in the groove, but at the moment it's obviously still on his mind, which is understandable.

People noted that he was missing a lot of chances, although that was mitigated by the fact he was scoring too. I don't care how many he misses as long as he scores goals, wins pens, creates goals and gets players sent off.

which he is doing.

Oh god. Its Peter Cechs hat all over again

Are we talking about Salah here or Trent and his poor crossing?

I am not concerned about either player at all... both of them will be boss this season...

IF you were referring to Salah... on a day in which he was playing against a good defensive team set up to defend on a narrow pitch...

Excellent (but very difficult) control from a superb Keita pass, slightly knocked by his knee at pace and over hit the lob...
Decent header on target which was well saved
Good powerful shot on target which was well blocked
One slightly overran one on one situation which he still managed to lay off
One excellent pass into Keita which should have resulted in a goal
An assist for Mane, and he was waiting for the cut back should Mane have not gone for glory himself

I have seen far far worse performances from Liverpool strikers... and he is hardly in a goal drought having scored in game 1...

Maybe I'm being an optimist but I truly am not worried at all.

Salah. Nobody's worried about either MT. He definitely hasn't quite looked himself, but as you have noted, even a Salah in second gear is a threat.

After 2 games: 1 goal, 1 assist, 1 won penalty and got 1 player sent off. We have 2 wins, 6 points and 6-0 in GD.
If he continues to contribute like that its fine by me. He'll only get better as the season progresses as well.

I was always confident with him signing having seen the positions he takes up and the amount of chances he gets. I never ever thought he'd score as many as he did, of course. I thought he'd get around 15 prem goals. I imagine it will drop down to about that level this season. Still good numbers, of course, but he's set himself such high standards.

Firmino hasn't got back in the groove yet, and Trents crossing isn't as nifty as It usually is yet... I haven't noticed Salah not looking himself yet... and I'm pleased neither of us are concerned 😉

Mane is going to share the goal scoring load this season.

Mo had such an impact last season that it's easy to forget what a splash Mane made for us initially, till that sending-off against Citeh stopped his progress in its tracks. Obv.he came back and was worth his place again, but it wasn't quite the same stellar Mane who consistently had defenders running scared before. This season it's starting to look as if Mane mk.1 might be back amongst us, which is great news for us and very bad news for the rest of the Prem.

Not sure this was posted, or where to post it. But it seem others are more and more aware. This is their focus during an away game at Goodison.

The goal the season before at Arsenal away... fucking hell that lad can play...

Without becoming dizzy with jinxy optimism, we do have a fucking evil front three.

Wouldn't surpirse me if Mane scores more than Salah this season.

He has had a very good 2018 so far. He looked a little shaky after the sending off, but adjusted very well and was outstanding in many of Our tough games in the spring. Put pen on paper man.
