Crystal Palace v Liverpool - Match Thread

What's this commentator going on about - "it was a push, but not by the player who got the flick" ... the fuck's that got to do with it

Had no influence on play what so ever. Shocking decision. We are very fortunate here Palace must feel truly cheated.

Doesn't matter a hoot how hard the push was. The rules say bugger all about that. Push, foul, end of. We've been poor but the decision was the right one.

They don't seem to get that a foul in that phase of play rules out a goal, not just a foul on someone involved in the goal.

How they don't get it is fucking beyond me.

9 of our starting 11 travelled the world playing foorball for two weeks , 7 of their starting 11 had two weeks of light training

It definitely shows.

Although not sure that can excuse TAAs terrible performance

Doesn't matter.

Who is to say he wouldn't have dropped back to block it off the line?

Or, if the ref sees it in real time he blows up for a free kick to stop play & give the free kick.

Hence why the goal doesn't stand.

Ok. Shocking how many of you think that was good VAR?

Faintest of touches with no influence on play. Guess we’ll have to disagree here.

Clear foul on Lovren. 2 hand push in the back. It was how Palace got the FK to begin with! And the push on Zaha was lighter.

Although I'm surprised VAR overturned the decision.

Could easily have let it stood and you'd have the pundits claiming it had no influence on the goal.

However if Lovren wasn't fouled, who knows, maybe he would have called for it and Fab would have left it instead of a desperate header that allowed their player to tap in.

Good call, although i'm very surprised VAR had the bottle to overrule it.

If the referee sees it, he blows for a fee kick.

Simple.

No one has any way of knowing what Lovren does if he's not been FOULED & isn't lying on the floor, so no one knows if he prevents the goal or not.

We will if you (and others criticising the decision) continue to ignore the rules of football, Kristian. It DOES NOT MATTER TWO SHINY SH!TES how "faint" the touch was - totally irrelevant under the rules.

For all his qualities going forward for me TAA uses his hands way to often when defending... He has to learn, just like Lovren had to that defending well is not about winning ever ball or being first in every challenge

I think it"s about time that Jamie Webster came up with a VAR song, if he hasn't already done so 😉

What? It's a foul.
Influence on play is a phrase taken from the offside rule, the fuck does it have to do with this case? They fouled our player, it could have happened on the halfway line and it still should stop play if it's a foul.

What has "influence on play" have to do with it. The rule book says pushing an opposition player is a foul, it says nothing about the need for the push to influence play

Thanks. Thought I was the only one. Would be livid had we been robbed like that.
They got the FK from the same sort of "foul". A push from TAA on Zaha.

At least they're consistent. Ayew did the same on Lovren. Even though I thought it was still poor defending.

I think you’ll have to be rather generous to even call it a foul in the first place albeit he does invite such call as he uses his arms. This type of let’s check every other area of the pitch before calling it a goal-decisions wil ruin the game.

I am pro VAR but it shouldnt interfere in situations like this.

From a Rando on twitter..

Crystal Palace Robbed If that's not CORRUPTION i don't know what is. Bent VAR will bring back hooliganism at Football Stadiums Watch this space.....

Let’s hope not.

But it does have the power to ruin the game if misused.

Hopefully we'll get a set piece goal or a worldie so we don't have to risk bringing Salah on today.

Mane, through on goal, wide.
