Even when he gets in front of a podium to give public policy information on a deadly virus, he's still primarily concerned with how he appears, and media narrative.
People with a brain aren't annoyed that he's crossing out virus and writing CHINESE in giant text as though he's a four year old clutching a crayon, because of what that signals in terms of identity politics. Because all of that is par for the course. People with a brain are just disturbed that this is what he's concerned about, and that his inability to actually accomplish anything, his lack of real leadership, his poor staffing decisions, etc. are leading to more people dying than needed to.
Now he's watching the stock market and press coverage and debating getting people back to work, when we need a very clear, very unified message about social distancing.
It's a fucking embarassment. But so is getting distracted by things that are intended to be distractions.
