Covid-19 & Football

This requires us to believe their stats. Call me cynical but that famous not losing face shit they are famed for may be being deployed.

Next we'll be fed a table compiled by the WHO...

I love how people are dropping like flies in Spain, Italy and New York but everyone still believes it's the Asian governments who are bullshitting their people.

Also, Trump called it a Chinese Virus, because his only skill in politics is to name things for dumb people, troll, and speak to some weird and ugly atavistic fear. Even when he gets in front of a podium to give public policy information on a deadly virus, he's still primarily concerned with how he appears, and media narrative.

People with a brain aren't annoyed that he's crossing out virus and writing CHINESE in giant text as though he's a four year old clutching a crayon, because of what that signals in terms of identity politics. Because all of that is par for the course. People with a brain are just disturbed that this is what he's concerned about, and that his inability to actually accomplish anything, his lack of real leadership, his poor staffing decisions, etc. are leading to more people dying than needed to.

Now he's watching the stock market and press coverage and debating getting people back to work, when we need a very clear, very unified message about social distancing.

It's a fucking embarassment. But so is getting distracted by things that are intended to be distractions.

A week after China was chatting shit about person to person infection, they locked down a city of 11 million people and warned the world. So yeah, they were arseholes. But something that has blown up over the past few weeks here was known about 2 months ago today.

Our govt also thought it was a good idea if lots of people died. Which is good because it's what's about to happen.

Well, sure we can blame them.

But we still had adequate time. So blaming them right now as we blunder our way to tens of thousands of dead shows a total lack of leadership.

It's impossible to debate with Brendan on this since his racism doesn't permit any logic to interfere with his conspiracy theories. And he still refuses to discuss anything that diverts from his China obsession, such as the world's two largest epidemics (killing between 50-100m in 1918 and ca.600 thousand in 2009 with possibly up to 1.4 Billion infected) originated in the USA (I did some research and it seems it's widely accepted that Spanish Flu originated in Kansas - not from Chinese immigrants in Europe).

We're looking at Italy now, we know the trajectory, yet parks are the busiest they've ever been.

Yes we're stupid and yes it's going to kill a lot of people.
And the Italians were still out in large numbers (up to this last weekend!) in some towns despite the lock-down. I mentioned already that some town mayors want to extend the use of the military to force them off the streets/parks.

In Australia the beaches were heaving - despite the warnings. Already there are infections known to have been transmitted on Bondi beach. Hence Australia now going into lockdown.

Not just the UK that has idiots - most Western countries have more than their fair share.

I loved watching Fauci absolutely destroy him when discussing potential vaccines (2 days ago?).

Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told the New York Times that he tries to be diplomatic when forced to contradict President Trump on the facts of the coronavirus outbreak.
What he's saying: “I’ve been telling the president things he doesn’t want to hear. I have publicly had to say something different with what he states. It’s a risky business. But that’s my style. ... I say it the way it is, and if he’s gonna get pissed off, he’s gonna get pissed off. Thankfully, he is not. Interestingly.”

  • “I don’t want to embarrass him. I don’t want to act like a tough guy, like I stood up to the president. I just want to get the facts out. And instead of saying, ‘You’re wrong,’ all you need to do is continually talk about what the data are and what the evidence is."
  • “And he gets that. He’s a smart guy. He’s not a dummy. So he doesn’t take it — certainly up to now — he doesn’t take it in a way that I’m confronting him in any way. He takes it in a good way.”
Why it matters: As the nation's top expert on infectious diseases, Fauci has been a guiding force and steady hand in shaping the White House's response to the coronavirus pandemic. His nonpolitical, realist outlook has at times stood in stark contrast with the dismissive tone and relentless optimism of the president.
  • On Friday, Fauci was forced to step in at a White House press briefing when Trump touted the promise of an anti-malaria drug that has not yet been approved by the FDA for treating the coronavirus — something he continues to do on Twitter.
  • "I'm not totally sure what the president was referring to," Fauci told reporters. "But I believe he was referring to a report that used both hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin together to have some possibility of being an effect. Many of the things out there are what I have called 'anecdotal reports.'"
The bottom line: Fauci told the Times that despite the contradictions, Trump now "absolutely" understands the threat of the coronavirus.

I think it's quite useful knowing how and where these things originate, so you can legislate against things that caused them, and also isolate the countries and restrict travel immediately.

But no, let's moan about Trump (accurately) calling it Chinese Flu.

Although I prefer "Chinese Devil Virus"

It is a weird stance dude. China fucked it up first, then got lots better. That's no longer our issue. Our issue is how terribly our govt are dealing with it. Either way, it's two separate things.

I know, I know. I just like winding up our Dear Leader apologists, and those who thought it was a leak from a bioweapon lab or whatever.
And the latest batshit (pun very much intended) theory that China had some kind of massive plan to fuck up the global economy and did it all on purpose.

Meanwhile, I can't go out, and my favourite Chinese restaurant is closed, just months after they reopened after a fire. And the owner's sound, even if i think he's possibly a Chelsea fan.

That prick Rio Ferdinand says we should lose the title for the good of the game so, yet all 20 premiership clubs want it to continue, I’ve never liked him the ‘just for men beard dyeing twat’

Is this the Brendan version of 'I can't be racist, I have a black friend'?

No it’s Brendan pointing out he’s wrong, while not pointing out he’s wrong.

More importantly - he’s bored with winding up Frogfish, so he’ll be on to someone else now.

It could be anyone of us... best self isolate.

Now I'm being compared to a virus

Can't say i've been paying too much attention to this, what is the latest, the PL still want to finish the season after the lockdown? Or is there serious talk of voiding the season?

There'll be a resolution to the season at some stage, just a matter of when. No way they can void it this far in, it'd be different if it was a handful of games in.

It's quite clearly going to be voided.

Like I'm convinced.
Why do you think starting a new season on time will take priority over finishing this season? To me that makes no sense at all. All of football are in this together. If we have to rearrange football dates on the back of it so be it.

I think the opportunity to mess around with season dates a bit in advance of the weird world cup, to plan it properly, will definitely work in our favour.

Because I think footy will be off for a lot longer than people think and eventually they'll just go,"ah fuck it, let's start from scratch."

Not to mention the curse and, most importantly, the will of the footballing gods - which most of you seemed to forget about.

What's footy got to do with anything?

It'll be all about the money. No finish season means no money from sponsors = bankruptcy.

And Sky, Bt and Virgin wanting to sell their product... A new Football seaon, where the can now charge more for it
