Coutinho gone. 142m

Haha. Look at the state of the majority of the posts. Coutinho is a fucking cunt and a coward and blah blah blah.

I'm being rational and realistic and am entirely calm, while many others appear to be having a mental breakdown.

I'm the calm in the storm, asking - and not once getting - a decent, well-reasoned and intellectually consistent response to why we have sold Coutinho mere months after such steely resolve in summer, that isn't the obvious truth: FSG don't care about winning trophies and only about ensuring we balance the books and maximise their investment

I think the accepted response is
A- they lowballed and figured we would just Crack and accept the deal under pressure, we didn't.
B- the higher fee came just days before the window closed and it didn't give us time to repond with a replacement especially as Monaco said no to our Lemar bid cos it put them in a similar position
C- Barca have come with a higher and more acceptable fee with 3 weeks left of the window and possibly some time for us to purchase and finalise a replacement

I had my own comment earlier re hoping we had a replacement, thinking about it we announced Keita, Salah and to an extend vvd quite quickly I'm hoping the coutinho replacement is similar.

I can't help being a know-it-all cock. It's pretty much my entire persona.

As for grieving, nah. I'm not that arsed, and never expected Coutinho to stay anyway, it was - very, very obviously - always going to happen, it was just a matter of time.

I'm sure some posters are shocked and/ or dismayed, and I do feel sorry for them.

I don't really see the point you are making here Bren.
We don't and didn't want to sell right? But I guess everyone has a price. Barcelona didn't reach that price in Summer and have now. Right? Isn't is as cut and dried as that?
I can't say for sure but I would imagine a bid of 150m in summer would have been accepted regardless of the grandstanding.

Although perhaps not if they left it until the last day.

Theres a million times clubs have said they aren't selling then when a price they like is agreed they change their minds. I really don't get the looking stupid stuff.
No other clubs fans will give a shit. To be honest neither do I.
I just want us to spend the money well.

We know what we need. We didn't spend all that much in summer. We need to go and buy it.

Keeper, DM and striker.

Whilst I do see Bren's point, the options arent great.Coutinho has been angling to go for a long time and has pushed hard, he's cup-tied in the CL and that shower has practically sewn up their title. This only hurts us and the fact that he's STILL insistent says a lot.

Yeah, we could have pushed back and refused. He's on a nearly 5 year contract, after all. Would that be a better option? Maybe but it would depend on whether he'd be able to get his head down and play his best for another 4 years.

Personally I would have gambled. He's real quality, and 140 million means fuckall if you use it to buy 4 Oxlade- Chamberlains.

Edit : granted, we could buy well but I'm not so confident on that

He's not the one hurling insults around.

It's really weird, like some kind of collective cognitive dissonance.

I'm quite clearly not raging, or shocked or any of things various divs are accusing me of. It was obvious he was going to join Barcelona.

If anything is vexing me, or at least causing me confusion, it's the various hilarious bollocks reasons other posters are trying to concoct to justify why we're selling one of our best players half way through a season, just four months after he was 'not for sale at any price', and the sheer venom and hate directed at Coutinho, like this is all HIS fault

That change of stance isn't Coutinho's fault, it's just typical FSG and makes us look a bit stupid, after such vehement denials and steely resolve (haha) in summer

Whilst being a bit pissed he's leaving this window, it was inevitable he would end up at Barcelona sooner or later. Would have liked to have seen him finally step up and perform in a big game, perhaps the Champions league before he went though. Can we please stop buying south americans now and making them brilliant? It doesn't end well.

Let him go and play second fiddle to Messi and win the league in a two maybe three horse race.

You aren't angry/vexed that we've sold him now? OK.

So we got 106 mill to spend. Bet all the players we're interested in will have a price tag of value + plus 10/20 mill.

Hahahahahaha!

'Klopp wants him gone'

Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Fucking hell, brilliant.
It was said repeatedly at the end of the summer window by journos close to the club that Klopp was unhappy but wanted to keep him, until he faked injury, as soon as he did he then told the owners if they could get the right price he could go.

The fact Barca wouldn't pay what he wanted as an upfront payment was apparently all that stopped it.

Now we have Coutinho again faking injury it doesn't stretch the imagination to suggest he doesn't want that disruption again.

Yeah. We dug our heels in about Coutinho in summer, he wasn't for sale at any price, and we wouldn't negotiate.

Then, 5 months later, with no replacement lined up, and in a transfer window that traditionally isn't ideal for long-term planning, we miraculously agree to selling hi after all, just days after we spend 75m on a Van Dijk.

What a fucking coincidence! You gullible cretin
How do you know we have no replacement lined up?

Yeah, for FSG it's all about getting the highest possible price for a playing asset.

And yet, why is this thread full of laughable fucking bollocks about his attitude, what a cunt he is, what a cowardly traitor cunt fuck etc etc?

Why are there attempts to pretend FSG's hand was forced, or that Klopp didn't actually want him anymore?

FSG don't give a fuck about Liverpool. They made that weirdly specific statement in summer that Coutinho was not for sale at any price, and that there would be no negotiations, but then caveated it very clearly to 'this summer window'

Why? To ensure that the blinkered bovine masses can continue to be treated like idiots 'Huuurrrr, Look! These FSG lads won't be bullied! They have REFUSED TO SELL! They want to build something!"

And when a suitable period of time has passed - let's say the actual fucking *bare minimum* amount of time, like for instance the very next available transfer window - and a distracting new player can be shown off, days before selling Coutinho as planned all along, FSG can pocket a nice hefty transfer profit and allow the same bovine idiots to lay the blame entirely on Coutinho, while FSG, poor, valiant, honourable FSG, can once again manage PR and continue not giving one single fuck about actually ever winning a trophy, as evidenced by 'refusing' to sell our best player in summer, but weirdly being all too happy to sell him half way through the next season.

Modo, you must be delighted your little bird has been set free.
Meh, don't care. He got what he wanted and we can just move on and start adjusting to no having him in the team anymore. Lallana is a suitable option.

I'm a bit sad and not surprised. I remember when he arrived and (if I recall correctly) pretty much took Stewart Downing's place in the team. It's hard to believe that only a few years later Coutinho is the one leaving and Downing is fighting with the Kurds in Syria. Life is funny that way.

When Coutinho came he was just a kid with bad hair. Once the trendy haircuts and tattoos started to appear it was just a matter of time. I don't wish him ill, but I do hope he never scores again and that the rest of his life is a hollow and meaningless sham.

Well you know my thoughts on FSG. Pretty much the same page.
But the lad deffo wanted to go and we got top whack for him.
So fuck it.
