Fuck it. Bought for 8.5 sold for 142 after four years. Why does anyone think a Brazilian would want to spend his life in NW England when he and his family could be in Spain? Imagine his wife comes back from visiting Suarez’s wife and thinks “I want some of that”. If you buy south Americans this is always going to happen.
We had to fucking kick Lucas out

Maybe we just need to sign shit Brazilians for loyalty

Because if you have success in Barcelona you'r just another one, while if you bring success here they might even build a statue of you....?

Well now that he has joined that bunch of tapping up twats, maybe he can start tapping up Moreno...his best mate

I'm a little surprised at you. You always come across as pretty sound. He's hardly a 'little rat cunt' just because he wanted to leave. He didn't do a Torres and completely down tools. We got a fuck load of doe for him - I just hope the club invest it wisely...................

Are you messing? He downed tools on the eve of our CL campaign starting and feigned injury. Calling him a rat is being nice.

Liverpool Football Club is to offer supporters who bought a 2017-18 replica shirt printed with Philippe Coutinho's name and number a £50 voucher, once the move is completed.

The offer – which applies to all shirts purchased in official club outlets and via the official LFC website – follows today’s announcement that Coutinho will join FC Barcelona and reflects the exceptional circumstances behind the player’s departure.
In order to avail of this offer, qualifying supporters should present their 2017-18 Coutinho replica shirt at any official club store where the voucher will be issued. The shirt will not be retained but proof of purchase will be required.
Customers who purchased a Coutinho replica shirt online via the official LFC online store (liverpoolfc.com/store) will receive the voucher via the email address the purchase was made from on Saturday January 13, 2018 and can be redeemed via the official LFC online store only.
The voucher will be valid from January 13, 2018 to May 31, 2018 and is valid at all official Liverpool FC stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

But will I be refunded for this Coutinho artwork I commissioned by a talented local artist?

It's really weird, like some kind of collective cognitive dissonance.

I'm quite clearly not raging, or shocked or any of things various divs are accusing me of. It was obvious he was going to join Barcelona.

If anything is vexing me, or at least causing me confusion, it's the various hilarious bollocks reasons other posters are trying to concoct to justify why we're selling one of our best players half way through a season, just four months after he was 'not for sale at any price', and the sheer venom and hate directed at Coutinho, like this is all HIS fault

That change of stance isn't Coutinho's fault, it's just typical FSG and makes us look a bit stupid, after such vehement denials and steely resolve (haha) in summer

Jeez, calm down Brendan. No need to get so explosive.

I can't be arsed trawling through the previous pages, because it's bound to be high on emotion, with the usual mix of hate towards the player and the club, countered by the Klopp/Club CDNW brigade.

Coutinho is a top class player. We saw that from the first game, and despite the inevitable inconsistencies that go hand in hand with being a developing player in a tough, foreign league, it was always pretty obvious he would progress and attract the big money clubs. I don't blame him for wanting to play for Barcelona, it's a dream for many South American players. And who wouldn't want to play alongside two of the greatest attackers in World Football? He'll only go onto the next level there, because he'll learn even more from the likes of Iniesta, Messi and Suarez (again).

Obviously the Liverpool fan in me is sad, angry etc about it all, but not nearly as much as I was a few years ago. We buy good players, get a few good years out of them, while fumbling around trying to muster up a side that can consistently compete. Our problem is we build too slowly, we undo our own good work and we more often not, take one step forward and two or three steps back. It happened with Suarez, and unless Klopp gets it right, it'll happen here. And then we'll have the same situation sooner rather than later with Salah and Mane. The rest are by the by, the only players I have genuine respect and slight indulgence for are few and far between - Milner, Robertson, TAA, Firmino, that's about it.

Anyone pretending that we have enough quality to get by with, is kidding themselves really. Coutinho was too often the catalyst for all of our good play, particularly more recently in the big games. That's a difficult thing to replace. You always need someone around the engine room who can probe. Sadly that was all too evidently missing last night and there will be more games where it becomes more and more of a problem and we won't always be able to turn games around, as we have in the last two. Mane is off the boil and Salah is now (back to one again) the only genuine consistent goal threat. When you factor in that many of Firmino, Mane and Salah's goals were a result of Coutinho's productive play, then the problem becomes two fold. We've lost Coutinho's contribution and I'll bet we take a hit in how productive our other attackers are now.

If we think we can get by until the Summer without reinforcing, after foolishly allowing Coutinho to leave mid season, then it'll be an even fucking stupider decision than the one where we thought we could get by without defensive reinforcements.

We need to buy, and I don't mean panic buy. I mean the club had better have an ace up it's sleeve, given it's actively looked to sell it's biggest asset when it's all to play for. If we don't then yes, as Skully would say. We're fucking dickheads.
Whilst a lot of what you've written makes utter sense .... it's not supported by stats which actually show the opposite. Now of course there are many other factors which may/do come into play but I'm not so sure that if we buy sensibly we won't have a better team than we did with the defensively weak Coutinho.

Goals for and against (with and without Coutinho) are very similar, off the top of my head without going to find the stats I posted earlier, about 2.75 goals per match with him and 2.50 without him playing. Goals against is strangely identical at 1.17 per match.

The more important stats though are those of WDL. Without him (9-3-1) with him (8-9-1) this season. And as I pointed out earlier a lot of the teams goals (and his) have come in our big wins when we'd almost certainly have won without him anyway (Spartak 7-0, Maribor 7-0, Brighton 5-1, Swansea 5-0 and Bournemouth 4-0).

I'd also add that for me our 3 most influential players that we have at this stage are 1) Salah 2) Firmino and 3) VVD. Whilst obviously the loss of Coutinho weakens us I'll not get my knickers in a twist on it derailing our season until, come the end of January, I see what we've done with the Coutinho money.

Let him waive his tiny FSG out flag if he wants to, it will probably look very stupid when we sign some players with the money FSG are meant to be pocketing.

Its the Coutinho grieving process mate, as Farky said. 😉

There has been some stuff coming out that he even paid for a small part of the transfer fee himself along with Nike, a total of 15 mill £.
If true, he really didnt want to be here.

But I think its fair to call him a rat for jumping ship mid season. We're looking good in both the League and CL, and he's cuptied for Barca.
Jesus.. Take the blinkers off mate. We bought him for 8.5m and sold for 146m.

As I said earlier. He picks up a winners medal in spain. Do you really think in 10-15 years time when people assess his honours they'll say "oh that one doesn't count, as they were walking the league". No.

He looked at the situation and saw that we haven't got a chance of winning the league this season, we have a punchers chance in the CL. Albeit better with VvD. I don't blame him for going.

And for him to reportedly stump up the difference in valuations, it doesn't leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

Of course the fan in me is sad, but he's not a rat cunt or a snake.

This is really it. Well said Sean..
  1. Always going to happen
  2. We transformed an also ran @ Inter into an international super star
  3. We made a lot of $$ (Thanks Rafa for the recommend)
  4. Always going to happen
  5. He went missing a lot at times. While we will miss his wizardry, he is replaceable.

Refusing to play is the biggest reason he's a rat. The money is good, very good but he's still a cunt.

No your right.. hes a fucking pussy and was probably rightly worried that Mo Salah would get the spotlight and attention of Barca more if he stayed on.

He's not risking injury to prevent his 'dream' move.

Its done. Just take a moment to think about it.

Bought for 8.5m
4 years
150 games
41 goals
Sold for 146m

Allow yourself a smile and move on.

It will feel alright when we sign Lemar 😉

When I read people defending Coutinho in my mind's eye I picture them like one of those sad wankers who attends a vigil outside some smackhead popstars house when they've popped their cloggs, tears streaming, candle burning

Or ones who stand outside Buckingham Palace waiving a little Union Flag.
