I can't be arsed trawling through the previous pages, because it's bound to be high on emotion, with the usual mix of hate towards the player and the club, countered by the Klopp/Club CDNW brigade.
Coutinho is a top class player. We saw that from the first game, and despite the inevitable inconsistencies that go hand in hand with being a developing player in a tough, foreign league, it was always pretty obvious he would progress and attract the big money clubs. I don't blame him for wanting to play for Barcelona, it's a dream for many South American players. And who wouldn't want to play alongside two of the greatest attackers in World Football? He'll only go onto the next level there, because he'll learn even more from the likes of Iniesta, Messi and Suarez (again).
Obviously the Liverpool fan in me is sad, angry etc about it all, but not nearly as much as I was a few years ago. We buy good players, get a few good years out of them, while fumbling around trying to muster up a side that can consistently compete. Our problem is we build too slowly, we undo our own good work and we more often not, take one step forward and two or three steps back. It happened with Suarez, and unless Klopp gets it right, it'll happen here. And then we'll have the same situation sooner rather than later with Salah and Mane. The rest are by the by, the only players I have genuine respect and slight indulgence for are few and far between - Milner, Robertson, TAA, Firmino, that's about it.
Anyone pretending that we have enough quality to get by with, is kidding themselves really. Coutinho was too often the catalyst for all of our good play, particularly more recently in the big games. That's a difficult thing to replace. You always need someone around the engine room who can probe. Sadly that was all too evidently missing last night and there will be more games where it becomes more and more of a problem and we won't always be able to turn games around, as we have in the last two. Mane is off the boil and Salah is now (back to one again) the only genuine consistent goal threat. When you factor in that many of Firmino, Mane and Salah's goals were a result of Coutinho's productive play, then the problem becomes two fold. We've lost Coutinho's contribution and I'll bet we take a hit in how productive our other attackers are now.
If we think we can get by until the Summer without reinforcing, after foolishly allowing Coutinho to leave mid season, then it'll be an even fucking stupider decision than the one where we thought we could get by without defensive reinforcements.
We need to buy, and I don't mean panic buy. I mean the club had better have an ace up it's sleeve, given it's actively looked to sell it's biggest asset when it's all to play for. If we don't then yes, as Skully would say. We're fucking dickheads.
