In fairness, this does look like a bit of hindsight.

I don't think anyone was convinced a year ago that he'd turn into a top player, and tbh we still don't.
That's not true.

I said early on in his time in the reserves that I reckoned we have a Premiership player on our hands. I'm pretty sure I wasn't alone either.
After watching him in the Lyon game I reckon it was I remember a fair lot of us beeing rather optimistic about his future. His talent already back then was quite obvious really.

This is all true, but at the points of time we're looking at we did seem to have a good number of young defenders on our books, so maybe it's not so surprising that his abilities weren't given the recognition deserved.

Hes a local lad and I suspect Liverpool is the club he wants to play for. Cant see him leaving to be honest, and I expect his to be our CB in the future
he's local in what scense?

He was born in Bolton
Close enough 😉
In case your not English, Boltons in Greater Manchester, so he probably grew up supporting the Scum.
I know. Just so desperate for locals to come through that I am willing to expand the area 8)

True. It's been at least a year since many have mentioned him as a sure-fire future 1st teamer. He played well in the first team in the pre-season before last, as well as having been the defensive lynchpin in the reserves. He also starred in a loan spell at Huddersfield(I think) playing predominantly at left-back.

Certainly not hindsight, Kelly should have been tied to the club some time ago.

Isn't there an exception to the Bosman rule in England for players under 24?

I don't think we are in any risk of losing him anyway.
If we offer a written contract, then even if he chooses to go we're still due compensation. Everton fucked up with Dan Gosling by only having a verbal agreement in place so they got nowt! Im sure he's going nowhere though!

There is absolutely no chance of losing Kelly whatsoever.

He got a taste of first team footy but more importantly at Anfield. That atmosphere is addictive and he's got the bug. There's nowhere else Kelly would want to fulfil his dreams. He's already living it right here!

Personally I can't see him leaving but you just never know in football there are so many greedy agents and hanger ons involved in deals you can never say never that a youngster might get his head turned. I'm sure the Everton fans thought the same last year about Gosling.

I don't think that is correct. Rafa rated him very highly and give him his debut at the age of 17.

Sorry, just checked and it was 18 but that is still young for Rafa

This seems to have been ignored amongst the rather surprising schoolgirl hysteria.

It isn't, I'm afraid. The "Star" is only one step up from the "S*n".

That being the case, "F**k You Niall K!"
