Confirmed Summer Transfers (2013/14)

Morgan Amalfitano - West Brom (loan with option to buy)

[article=http://www.wba.co.uk/news/article/amalfitano-seals-albion-switch-1029237.aspx]ALBION have signed versatile Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal.

The 28-year-old France international completed his move this morning after flying in from France yesterday afternoon and passing a medical. He will wear the No.18 shirt.

Amalfitano has been a regular for the current Ligue One leaders for the past two seasons and boasts both Champions League and Europa League experience.

He is renowned for his creativity, having contributed more than 30 assists in the past four campaigns.

Head coach Steve Clarke said: “I’m delighted to welcome Morgan to the club.

“He is predominantly a right-sided midfielder who can also operate in a number of other midfield and attacking positions.

“Morgan is a technical player with good quality on the ball. He also has fantastic work-rate and we believe his game is well suited to the Barclays Premier League.

“Morgan’s arrival will increase competition in midfield and add more quality and depth to the squad.”

Amalfitano was capped by France in a 2-1 friendly win over Germany in February 2012 – providing the cross for Florent Malouda’s decisive goal.

The Nice-born player made his professional debut for Sedan in August 2006, where he played for three seasons before joining Lorient.

In the 2009/10 and 2010/11 campaigns he started all-but-one of the Ligue One outfit’s 76 league games, scoring 11 goals.

That form persuaded Marseille to snap up the 5ft9in player and, in the past two seasons, he has helped the French giants win the 2012 Coupe de la Ligue and finish Ligue One runners-up last term.

In total, Amalfitano has made 298 career league appearances, including 49 as a substitute, scoring 16 goals.[/article]

Serdar Tasci - Spartak Moscow (£3.6 million)

[article]Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow have completed the signing of VfB Stuttgart captain and Germany international Serdar Tasci.

The 26-year-old defender has signed a four-year deal until June 2017 with the Russian team for a reported transfer fee of £3.6million.

During a seven-year spell at VfB Stuttgart, Tasci made 180 top-flight appearances and was appointed skipper by former manager Bruno Labbadia in 2012.

Germany coach Joachim Low handed Tasci his international debut in 2008 against Belgium before taking the defender to South Africa as part of the 2010 World Cup squad.

Tasci initially joined Stuttgart at the age of 12 and admitted leaving the club was not a switch he took lightly.

"This has not been an easy decision and it's definitely no decision against VfB Stuttgart," he told the club's official site.

"It's a decision of a new task. After so many years with VfB Stuttgart I like to face a new challenge in my professional career."

Tasci's departure comes just days after the sacking of Stuttgart manager Labbadia after the club lost their opening four Bundesliga matches.[/article]

Ki Sung-Yueng - Sunderland (loan)

KiSwanseared.jpg

[article=http://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2013/august/boss-pleased-to-add-ki]Sunderland have signed midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng from Swansea City on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old South Korean international is the club's 11th summer signing.

Ki was a regular for Swansea last season, making 38 appearances in all competitions, and will link up with international colleague Ji Dong-won on Wearside.

A stylish operator in the middle of the park, he began his career in his native South Korea having spent time in Australia as a youngster.

A successful spell with FC Seoul brought Ki to the attention of Scottish giants Celtic, for whom he signed in 2009.

Ki's stay in Scotland was a successful one as he clocked up 85 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals and winning an SPL title and Scottish League Cup.

The midfielder moved south to Swansea in August 2012 and made his league debut for the Welsh side in a 2-2 draw against Sunderland the same month.

He was in the Swansea team which won the Capital One Cup last season, beating Bradford City in the final.

Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio says new signing Ki Sung-Yueng is an excellent addition to the squad.

The South Korean international completed a season-long loan move from Swansea on Saturday but wasn’t eligible to play as the Black Cats were defeated at Crystal Palace.

Ki, 24, is already a veteran of 126 games in British football having previously starred for Celtic before moving to South Wales.

And Di Canio feels his latest capture is a quality addition.

“It's obvious that he has quality, physical presence and he's young,” the Italian said.

“The fact that he played for a few years already in British football made me happy that he decided to sign for us.

“He played lots of games for Swansea - a good team who play good football.

“He's a player who can build up from the back in the way I want; he plays tactical balls and has a long range of delivery with precision.”[/article]

Arnautovic, who can operate either as a winger or striker, has scored 14 goals in 72 Bundesliga appearances for Bremen.

Manager Mark Hughes said: "Marko is a player we have been aware of for some time and I’m really pleased we have been able to add him to our squad.

"He has played at the highest level in Holland, Italy and Germany and is keen to make his mark in England with Stoke City."

Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: "We’re delighted to have added another front man to our squad following on from the signing of winger Oussama Asaidi on a season-long loan from Liverpool last week."

Arnautovic launched his career in Holland with FC Twente, for whom he scored 12 goals in 44 league appearances. He also had a spell on loan with Italian giants Inter Milan, where he made three appearances.

[article]Ricardo Kakà is back in Milan after arriving at Linate airport this afternoon. Here’s what the player and Adriano Galliani had to say exclusively to the Milan Channel:

Adriano Galliani: "It was around 2.30 last night when the deal was done. Now I hope Kakà's orphans, the 12,00 or 15,000 fans that stopped coming to the stadium when he left, will come back now that Kakà's returned. He really made a huge effort to come back and has shown real affection for the jersey."

Ricardo Kakà: “Four years have passed and now I’m back. It’s been two weeks that I thought if I could come back, a return to Milan would be ideal for me. In the last few days, I’ve been dreaming of hearing the fans sing my name in the San Siro again.

Mario is a great player and I want to do well with him. I hope I can do with him what I used to do with Pippo Inzaghi. I have a lot of desire to play and it’s a very important year for me due to the World Cup, but right now I just want to do well for Milan, my team. Libor Kozak - Aston Villa (reportedly £7 million)

0,,10265~12194017,00.jpg

[article=http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~3445778,00.html]Paul Lambert expressed his delight after the groundwork put in over several months resulted in the transfer deadline day capture of Czech international striker Libor Kozak from Serie A side Lazio.

The 24-year-old top scorer in the Europa League last season with 10 goals, Kozak put pen to paper on a four-year deal to 2017 and the Villa manager emphasised the powerful addition his seventh summer signing will be as his evolving, young squad seek to build on a solid start to the season.

Lambert said: "We've been on this one for the last few months, trying to bring him to the Club, so I'm delighted to get it across the line.

"Libor has an unbelievable scoring record in the Europa League, incredible really. He wasn't given much opportunity for Lazio in Serie A but he showed proper potential in leading the line there at a strong club with a great tradition and we need somebody like him as we only have Christian Benteke really as a main target man.

"He'll take that burden off Christian and he'll add greatly to what we've got, with the likes of Nicklas Helenius, who's a different type of player, Gabby Agonlahor, Aleks Tonev and Andi Weimann in that area of the pitch where we can hurt teams. Libor's powerful, too, and I'm looking forward to working with him. We needed to bring in someone like Libor to help the overall philosophy to work.

"It's a matter of him now integrating with the group, which he'll do. We've brought in seven players this summer and we're trying to build the squad. It's getting there, no doubt about that and we'll keep building it."

Kozak won the first of his four caps for the Czech national team in a November 2012 friendly against Slovakia. He has scored one international goal - in the Czech Republic's most recent game against Hungary last month in Budapest - and he is eager to work hard for Villa in the Barclays Premier League and tap into the experience he has acquired from playing alongside the likes of Lazio's Miroslav Klose.

"I'm really happy to be at Aston Villa and I'm ready for this new step in my career," said the 6ft 4ins Kozak.

"I hope it's a good step for me and also for Villa because everything is about the team. This is a big club, a very historic club with a fantastic fanbase and, for me, this is really important. From when I was a young boy, I have dreamt of playing in the Premier League and to do this with a club such as Villa is incredibly motivating. It's real now and I'm very happy about this.

"I leave it to others to speak about me but I hope I can help Aston Villa in the games and I hope to score goals as well. I will speak about Villa and the Premier League to Petr Cech and Tomas Rosicky on international duty and I'm sure they will be able to tell me really good things from the games they have played against Villa this season. Yes, I scored goals in the Europa League last season and I'm happy about this because it's not easy but I know it won't be easy either to score goals in the Premier League so all my focus will be on this now.

"Playing with such a strong player as Miroslav Klose, I hope I was able to learn something from him and I also hope, with this experience, to help improve Aston Villa. My ambition is to contribute as much as I can to the team, to score goals and to fit in with my new team-mates. I know I must also play well for the manager. I spoke to him, he said he's happy that I've arrived here and he wants me, which is very important. I'm really looking forward to this new step and challenge."

Kozak joined Lazio in July 2008 from Czech Second Division side Slezsky FC Oprava. He went out on loan after a season with the Rome club to Serie B side Brescia where he scored four goals in seven starts and 22 appearances from the bench.

He returned to Lazio where he has played 79 times in all competitions, scoring 22 goals.

Kozak was the top goalscorer in the 2012-13 Europa League with 10 goals. He scored a hat-trick against Stuttgart in Rome to send Lazio into the quarter-finals of the competition where they lost to Fenerbahce.[/article]

[article=http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/german-international-ozil-joins-arsenal]German international midfielder Mesut Ozil has joined Arsenal on a long-term contract in a Club record deal.

Ozil, 24, joins Arsenal from Real Madrid where he made a total of 159 appearances in three years. During that time he won both La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

The attacking midfielder has been a long-term target and manager Arsène Wenger said: “We are extremely pleased to have signed Mesut Ozil. He is a great player, with proven quality at both club and international level. We have watched and admired him for some time as he has all the attributes I look for in an Arsenal player.

“I have said throughout the summer that we have been working hard to bring in top quality players to this football club. This has involved many many people across the Club and I have always had the full support of the Club in making decisions on the football side.

“Mesut is a top quality footballer who will be a fantastic addition to our talented squad. We are all looking forward to him joining up with us after his international matches with Germany and working with us as an Arsenal player.”

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said: “This is an exciting day for all of us. We have signed a world-class player who is one of Europe’s brightest young talents.

“Mr Kroenke, our controlling owner, has always fully supported Arsène and the Club in making significant investments to strengthen our squad and to bring in talented players who fit our style and ambitions.

"Like all of us, Mr Kroenke wants to see Arsenal winning titles and trophies and he has absolute faith and belief in our manager to achieve that. We will continue to work towards that goal and look forward to an exciting season.”

Ozil joined his hometown club Schalke in 2006 at the age of 18 and, after spending two years with the Gelsenkirchen club, he made the move to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in 2008. After making 71 appearances with Bremen, Ozil made the move to Real Madrid following impressive displays at the World Cup in South Africa. He has made 47 appearances for his country, scoring 17 goals.

Speaking after completing his medical in Germany, Ozil said: “I am thrilled to be joining a club of the stature of Arsenal and am looking forward to playing in the Premier League. It will be great for my own personal development as a player and I am particularly looking forward to working with Arsène Wenger.
“From our negotiations it is clear the Club has huge ambition and I look forward to being part of an exciting future.”

Everyone at Arsenal welcomes Mesut to the Club. The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes. His number will be announced via @Arsenal on Twitter shortly.[/article]

Peter Odemwingie - Cardiff (£2.5 million)

[article=http://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/article/odemwingie-signing-1032270.aspx#YWsbx5IykzBVKfjv.99 ]Cardiff City Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Peter Odemwingie from West Bromwich Albion, subject to Premier League ratification.

Peter becomes Malky Mackay's eighth signing of the summer transfer window, linking up with the Bluebirds on a two year deal.

An international attacker with over fifty caps for Nigeria, Peter joined WBA from Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow in 2010. He made 90 first-team appearances in all competitions for the Baggies, scoring 30 Barclays Premier League goals.

Peter completed his medical on Monday afternoon and will link up with his new team-mates later this week.

Speaking exclusively to Cardiff City Player, Peter said of the move: “I'm delighted to complete my move to Cardiff City. I'm looking forward to this fresh start at a Club that is really going places, a team that's progressing fast.

“My father-in-law is a City fan and he's told me what a great club this is. I'm looking forward to meeting up with the boys and then start preparing for the trip to Hull after the international break.

"I've seen a little bit of the City and I know that my wife and I will really enjoy living in Cardiff. I can't wait to get started - this move makes me very happy."[/article]

I'm surprised they let Ozil go. I would have thought he'd still have a role in that Madrid team. Especially now that Kaka has gone (didn't realise that was a free, madness!) and left them a little bit short in that position, with only Isco off the top of my head as that creative midfielder behind the striker.

James McCarthy - Everton (£13 million)
Gareth Barry - Everton (loan)
Romelu Lukaku - Everton (loan)

[article=http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2013/09/02/blues-confirm-five-deals]Everton have agreed deals which will see three new faces arrive at Goodison Park, with two players departing the Blues.

Marouane Fellaini has moved to Manchester United for a £27.5m fee, with Victor Anichebe heading to West Brom for a fee which could rise to £6m.

Coming into Goodison are James McCarthy for £13m on a long term deal and a pair of season long loan deals for Romelu Lukaku and Gareth Barry.

All five deals were confirmed on the stroke of Monday night's transfer deadline. Fellaini's exit ended a summer long period of speculation after the Belgium international emerged as one of former Everton manager David Moyes' prime targets for his new club.

Roberto Martinez moved to boost his midfield by signing James McCarthy from his own former club Wigan Athletic.

The highly-rated 22-year old arrives with an impressive reputation as one of the game's brightest young talents.

Also arriving at Goodison is Chelsea's powerful striker Romelu Lukaku. The frontman, 20, switched from the Stamford Bridge outfit after enjoying a productive temporary spell at West Brom last season - when he plundered 17 goals from 20 starts.

Lukaku's arrival offsets the departure of Anichebe to West Brom - the academy graduate moving to the Midlands after making 168 appearances and scoring 33 goals for the Blues.

The final piece of the deadline day jigsaw sees England international and Premier League and FA Cup winner Gareth Barry arrive from Manchester City. The 32-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the Everton midfield having also played for Aston Villa in the Premier League.[/article]

I'm surprised they let Ozil go. I would have thought he'd still have a role in that Madrid team. Especially now that Kaka has gone (didn't realise that was a free, madness!) and left them a little bit short in that position, with only Isco off the top of my head as that creative midfielder behind the striker.

Yeah. And he's only 24! PSG apparently made a higher offer but Ozil chose Arsenal instead. RM probably feel they have enough outlets for goals with Bale's addition.

Manchester United manager David Moyes said: “I have worked with Marouane for five years and I’m delighted he has decided to join Manchester United. He is a player with great ability and strength and I think he will make a real difference to our squad.”

Marouane Fellaini said: “I am thrilled to sign for Manchester United. I have known the manager for many years now and I have a lot of respect for his way of working. When I was given the opportunity to work with him again, I jumped at the chance. I had a fantastic time at Everton and I’d like to thank all the fans and staff there for everything they have done for me. [article=http://www.stokecityfc.com/news/article/stephen-checks-in-1031730.aspx#3U5sH8UApxhDF2yt.99 ]STOKE CITY have completed their second transfer deadline day signing with Stephen Ireland joining the Club on a season-long loan from Aston Villa.

The 27 year old midfielder follows Austrian international forward Marko Arnautovic to the Britannia Stadium after he completed his move from Werder Bremen in the early hours of the morning.

Ireland’s move to Stoke sees him linking-up with Mark Hughes for the second time in his career having had a highly productive spell under him at Manchester City.

Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: “Stephen is a player that Mark knows really well and when the opportunity arose he was keen to add him to his midfield and attacking options.

“Arguably the most successful period of Stephen’s career to date was when he played for Mark at Manchester City and we hope that he can rediscover that form.”

Ireland made more than 140 league appearances for City before joining Villa in August 2010 in a part-exchange deal that saw James Milner head in the opposite direction.

Borini5.jpg

[article=http://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2013/september/borini-signs]Sunderland have completed a deadline-day deal with the signing of Fabio Borini from Liverpool.

The 22-year-old Italian forward has joined on a season-long loan from the Anfield club and is the club’s 12th arrival of the summer.

Borini moved to England as a teenager after being snapped up by Chelsea from childhood club Bologna.

He made eight appearances for the Blues and joined Swansea City on loan in March 2011, turning in a string of impressive performances to help the club win promotion to the Barclays Premier League.

A total of nine league appearances yielded a return of six goals, while he featured in all three of the Swans’ play-off games, including the final.
Borini then returned to Italy with Parma and then Roma, where he fired 10 goals in 26 appearances.

His impressive progress in the Italian capital prompted a move to Liverpool, where Borini became Brendan Rodgers’ first signing having previously played for the Anfield boss at Swansea.

After joining in July 2012, he made 20 appearances for the Reds and featured against Sunderland in a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light.

Borini featured regularly for Italy at youth level and has been capped 18 times for the under-21 side, including two goals in three games as the Italians reached the final of the U21 European Championships.

The striker was also named in the senior squad for Euro 2012 and has one full cap to his name.[/article]

[article=http://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2013/september/defender-dossena-signs]Left-back Andrea Dossena has become Sunderland’s second signing of transfer deadline day.

The Italian, who joins countryman Fabio Borini at the Stadium of Light, has arrived from Napoli on a one-year deal.

Dossena, 31, made 24 appearances for Napoli last season as the Italian side secured a second-placed finish in Serie A.

Born in Lodi, Dossena rose to prominence with Hellas Verona before moving on to Treviso and Udinese.

He joined Liverpool in July 2008 and made 31 appearances during an 18-month spell with the Anfield club.

The defender joined Napoli in January 2010 and racked up 93 games in all competitions, as well as spending time on loan at Palermo.

He appeared in the 2011-12 Coppa Italia final as Napoli beat Juventus 2-0 to lift the trophy at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Dossena has been capped 10 times by Italy at senior level.[/article]

[article=http://www.swanseacity.net/news/article/alvaro-vazquez-signs-1031823.aspx#mtHH1SCllv01PFtl.99 ]Swansea City have completed the signing of Spanish Under-21 international Alvaro Vazquez from Getafe, subject to international clearance.

The 22-year-old striker agreed terms on a season-long loan move to the Liberty Stadium tonight with the view to a permanent transfer.

Vazquez was an integral part of the Spanish Under-21 side that clinched the European Championship crown in the summer and his arrival ends Michael Laudrup’s quest to add an additional striker to his squad.

“Vasquez is a young player I know from his time at Espanyol and now Getafe,’’ explained Laudrup.

“He is a little different to the strikers we have and has the characteristics we have been looking for. He will give us a different option.’’

Swans chairman, Huw Jenkins, added: "He is a young player with plenty of potential. He has already done well out in Spain and looks like the right signing for us at this stage."

Vazquez, who came through the ranks at Espanyol before securing a move to Getafe last summer, was a teammate of Swans defender Jordi Amat for club and country.

Born in Barcelona, Vasquez joined Espanyol at the age of 14. He made the senior step up with the reserves in Segunda B before making his La Liga debut five years later in September 2010 against Real Madrid.

He played his final game for Getafe as a second-half substitute in the 1-1 draw with Valladolid on Saturday, taking his tally to 89 top-flight appearances in La Liga with 14 goals.[/article]

[article=http://www.wba.co.uk/news/article/camp-joins-the-baggies-1031320.aspx#PE7KJ2AAcCVy2v5b.99 ]ALBION have strengthened their goalkeeping department by recruiting Northern Ireland international Lee Camp.

The Baggies have signed the 29-year-old on a rolling monthly contract until January after Ben Foster was ruled out for up to 12 weeks with a stress fracture in his right foot, which he suffered at Everton nine days ago.

Camp, who was a free agent, has made 349 league appearances during spells at Derby, Burton, QPR, Nottingham Forest and Norwich and also has nine caps for his country.

Goalkeeping coach Dean Kiely has welcomed the addition of Camp, who played three times in the Barclays Premier League for Norwich last term.

“Lee will bring experience and authority to the goalkeeping department,” said Kiely.

“We have acted quickly in the wake of Ben’s injury and made a really good signing.

“Lee comes with a strong pedigree, having played at a high level both domestically and internationally.

“He ticked a lot of the boxes we required when we began the search for another keeper.”

Camp, who will wear the No.12 shirt, also made five appearances for England Under-21s before opting to play for Northern Ireland, who he qualifies for through his Newtownards-born grandfather.

He was named Nottingham Forest’s Player of the Year for the 2009/10 season and also featured in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.[/article]

Stephane Sessegnon - West Brom (£5.5 million)

sessegnon-sign-a151-1032130_478x359.jpg

[article= http://www.wba.co.uk/news/article/albion-make-sessegnon-record-transfer-1032172.aspx#oR3moKRtkoOYh3oC.99 ]ALBION have broken their transfer record to sign Sunderland attacking midfielder Stephane Sessegnon in a beat-the-deadline deal.

The 29-year-old has penned a three-year contract after the two Barclays Premier League clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

Sessegnon passed a medical this afternoon and will wear the No.29 shirt.

His transfer fee surpasses the amount the Baggies agreed with Reading for Shane Long in August 2011.

Sessegnon arrives with a proven Premier League pedigree and started all-but-seven of Sunderland’s league matches in the past two seasons, scoring 14 goals.

He started his career in his homeland with Requins de’Atlantique before moving to Europe in 2004.

Sessegnon spent two seasons in the Parisian suburbs with Creteil before moving on to Le Mans, with whom he reached the semi-finals of the French League Cup.

After being snapped up by Paris Saint-Germain, he helped his new club reach the 2008/09 UEFA Cup quarter-finals in his first season. His form during that term also saw him named in the Ligue One Team of the Year.

Sessegnon went on to win the 2010 Coupe de France before earning a £6million move to Sunderland the following January.

In his first full season at the Stadium of Light, Sessgnon finished as the club’s eight-goal joint-leading scorer and top of the assists table to secure the Mackems’ Player-of-the-Season Award.

The 5ft8in ace has 40 appearances and eight goals to his name for his country and featured in the 2008 and 2010 African Nations Cups.

In total, Sessegnon has made 294 career league appearances, including 30 as a substitute, scoring 42 goals. [/article]

Victor Anichebe - West Brom (undisclosed fee which could rise to £6 million)

[article=http://www.wba.co.uk/news/article/anichebe-completes-baggies-move-1032400.aspx#UTf10FGmYdkE0ll3.99 ]ALBION have snapped up striker Victor Anichebe from Everton for an undisclosed fee.

The 6ft3in powerhouse has penned a three-year deal after passing a Hawthorns medical – and will wear the No.16 shirt.

The Toffees Academy product impressed last term as he fired eight goals - including six Barclays Premier League strikes - in 24 starts and eight substitute appearances.

And the 25-year-old is no stranger to scoring at The Hawthorns, having come off the bench to score an 87th-minute winner in a 1-0 victory on New Year’s Day 2012.

After coming through the ranks at Goodison Park, Anichebe made his first-team debut in February 2006 as a 17-year-old substitute in the Blues’ FA Cup fourth-round tie with Chelsea.

He signed his first professional contract three months later - a fortnight after his 18th birthday - and his first top-flight goal came in a 2-2 draw with the Baggies at Goodison Park on the final day of that season.

During 2007/08 Anichebe went on to score four times to help fire Everton into the UEFA Cup last 16 – and at the end of the campaign he was named the club’s Young Player of the Season.

The Lagos-born forward moved to Liverpool when he was aged one, and made his senior debut for Nigeria in May 2008, with the first of his nine caps coming in a 1-1 draw with Austria.

After appearing in three World Cup qualifiers, he was part of the Super Eagles squad that won the silver medal at the Beijing Olympics.

He opened his senior international account with a strike in a 3-0 friendly victory over Kenya in March 2011 – but in May this year he decided to put his international career on hold to focus on his club career.

In total, Anichebe has made 195 league appearances, including 57 as a substitute, scoring 34 goals. [/article]

The 19-year old signed for the Old Trafford club in 2012 and scored on his club debut against Latics at Old Trafford back in September.

Owen Coyle said: “We’re delighted to welcome Nick to Wigan Athletic, and thank Manchester United for allowing a player whom they have invested a large sum of money in and has incredible talent, to join us for the season.

“We’re all excited to be offering him the opportunity to play football at a high level and for him to continue his development here at the club.”

Powell began his career at Crewe Alexandra, making his senior debut against Cheltenham in August 2010, and scoring his first professional goal against AFC Wimbledon in October the following year.

A goal in the 2012 League Two Play-Off Final against Cheltenham at Wembley helped Crewe win promotion at the third tier, before his move to Old Trafford.[/article]

The Stoke-born player signed at the club two minutes prior to the deadline having made a late dash up the M6 motorway.

Shotton becomes manager Owen Coyle’s 12th signing of the summer and said he was delighted to finalise the move to the DW Stadium

Shotton said: “It’s been a whirlwind evening and we only found out really late about Wigan’s interest. I can’t wait to get going now and meet the players.

“As soon as I spoke to the gaffer and he told me how much he wanted me, I made up my mind and now I can’t wait to get started. The club is obviously moving forwards and the squad here is really impressive. The competition for places is intense but that is what all players need and I’m going to do everything I can to win a place in the team.

“I played a big part in the European campaign for Stoke and that’s something else that’s really appealing about the club.

“I just want to say a big thanks to everyone at Stoke City. It’s a club I’ve been at for 16 years so it’s played a huge part of my life. Who knows what will happen in the future but for now I’m a Wigan Athletic player and I can’t wait to get started.”[/article]

Michael Kightly - Burnley (loan)

[article=http://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/news/article/clarets-take-the-michael-020913-1031947.aspx#4Mv3fuQCXitzU2fM.99 ]Burnley have swooped ahead of the transfer deadline to sign former England U21 winger Michael Kightly on loan from Stoke City, subject to Premier League approval.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers wide man, 27, joins the Clarets in a season-long loan that re-unites him with manager Clarets boss Sean Dyche.

Kightly spent three months on loan at Dyche’s Watford in late 2011, scoring three times in twelve appearances for the Hornets.

The Basildon-born winger started his professional career at Southend United in 2003, before dropping out of the Football League to join Grays Athletic two years later.

However, his goalscoring exploits soon caught the eye of Wolves and he joined the Molineux side in January 2007, soon signing a four-year extension and deservedly earning an England U21 debut in August 2007.

Despite several injuries curtailing his Wolves career, he played a crucial role in Mick McCarthy’s side winning promotion to the Premier League in 2009.

And following his return from a loan spell at Watford two years later he enjoyed a purple patch, scoring three times towards the end of the 2011/12 season as Wanderers slipped out of the Premier League.

In the summer of 2012, Kightly rejected a contract extension at Molineux and returned to the top-flight with Stoke City, where he scored on his debut at Reading and went on to make 26 appearances for the Potters in the 2012/13 season.

Kightly will link up with his new Burnley team mates on their return to training later this week, ahead of the Championship game against Blackburn Rovers at Turf Moor on Saturday, September 14.[/article]

The deal for Carroll – who is widely regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in the English game – sees him link up with Harry Redknapp for a second time.

Redknapp, of course, nurtured Carroll’s development at White Hart Lane during his spell with the North London club, handing him his debut for the Lilywhites in a Europa League tie in August 2011.

Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, the delighted R’s boss said: “Tom’s a fantastic signing for us on loan.

“He’s a player I fully expect to go to the very top of the game – he’s a future England international.

Carroll, who is currently on international duty with the England Under-21 squad, added: “I am delighted to come here and really excited.

“The important thing for me now at this time in my career is to be playing regular football and hopefully I can achieve that here.

“I’ve seen what Kyle (Walker) and Andros (Townsend) got from their loans at Loftus Road, and I hope I can enjoy similar success.”

“He’s a top player and someone who will add great quality to the squad.

“He can play in a variety of positions – off the front-man, out wide on either side – and he’s always a threat.

“He gets at players and makes things happen.

“He’s someone I obviously know a lot about and he’ll be a fantastic addition for us.”

Kranjcar, who was an integral part of Redknapp’s Pompey side that won the FA Cup in 2008, added: “Harry has always brought the best out of me as a player.

“I played for him in two separate spells in England, and I am delighted to be linking up with him again, this time at QPR.

[article=http://www.mfc.co.uk/page/news/latest/0,,1~3446284,00.html]BORO have completed the signing of Sierra Leone international forward Kei Kamara from Sporting Kansas City on a two-year contract with a further one-year option.

The 29-year-old, who is his national team's Player of the Year, has spent most of his career playing US Major League Soccer but enjoyed a spell on loan in the Premier League at Norwich City last season.

The fee is undisclosed.

Tony Mowbray said: "We are delighted that Kei's s here. He will add to our attacking options all across the front line.

"He'll bring some added power, pace and an aerial threat to our squad."

Describing a whirlwind weekend leading up to the transfer, Kamara told mfc.co.uk: "I played a game on Saturday, got on a plane on Sunday and now I'm here on Monday so it's been a long couple of days but now I'm delighted to be here.

"I've heard playing in the Championship is a lot harder than the Premier league but I'm always ready for a challenge so I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully my own style and way of playing will help the team out."

Kamara moved to the United States from his war-torn homeland as a teenager and as well as Kansas he has played for Columbus Crew, San Jose Earthquakes and Houston Dynamo.

Although he stands at an imposing 6ft 3ins tall, Kamara has played most of his football as a winger but he is also comfortable as a central striker.

Despite usually being deployed in a wide position he has been Sporting Kansas City's leading scorer for three consecutive seasons and has won a host of awards.[/article]

Jacob Butterfield - Middlesbrough (undisclosed fee)

[article=http://www.mfc.co.uk/page/news/latest/0,,1~3446296,00.html]BORO have signed highly-rated midfielder Jacob Butterfield from Norwich City on a three-year deal with a one year option.

Commenting on a deal secured close to the transfer deadline, delighted Boro manager Tony Mowbray said: "He's a player we've admired for some time and we're delighted he has joined us. He's a very technically gifted footballer who will add an extra creative dimension to our midfield.

"We're trying to build something here and players of Jacob's calibre can hopefully help us achieve our aim."

Born in Bradford, Butterfield, 23, made his name with Barnsley, where he made 100 appearances.

In 2011 he won an England U21 cap and became the youngest captain in Barnsley's history when at the age of 21 he skippered the side in a 1-1 draw against Watford.

Described by his then manager Keith Hill as "the best midfielder in the league", his season was brought to a premature end when he was injured in a game against Leeds after a tackle left him with anterior cruciate ligament damage.

Targeted by many clubs, he chose to move to Norwich in 2012. However such was the form of Republic of Ireland international Wes Hoolahan, Butterfield found first team opportunities limited at Carrow Road, playing just three games. He went on loan to Crystal Palace and Bolton Wanderers, impressing in both spells.

His career to date has seen the midfielder play 120 games, scoring eight goals.

He was an unused sub for the Canaries' opening game of the season, a 2-2 draw at home to Everton, and played as an over-age player for the club's U21s side in a 4-1 win over Stoke.

The fee is undisclosed.[/article]

Florian Thauvin - Marseille (reportedly £12.7 million)

69429.jpg

[article]Last season's league runners-up Marseille, who decided to put their faith in signing young players, also brought in midfielder Mario Lemina, another U20 world champion, from Lorient just before the transfer deadline.

Local media reports said Marseille paid 15 million euros for the 20-year-old Thauvin, who signed a five-year deal on Monday. Lemina inked a similar contract.

"I'm very happy to join Marseille, my favourite club," Thauvin told the club's website.

Thauvin joined Lille in January from Ligue 1 Bastia but was loaned back to the Corsica club for six months and scored 10 goals in 32 league games during his first top-flight campaign.

The pacey forward, who won the under-20 World Cup with France this year, asked to be transferred to Marseille when he returned and did not play a single minute for Lille.

He missed training last week and Lille, who had turned down Marseille's first offers in June, agreed to reopen talks amid growing dressing room unrest over the winger's stance.

Thauvin, Marseille's most expensive signing of the close season, is one of four exciting prospects to join the club along with Lemina, who has played 14 league games for Lorient.

Fullback Benjamin Mendy, aged 19, and midfielder Gianelli Imbula, who was voted the best player in Ligue 2 by his peers at the age of 20 last season, signed from Le Havre and promoted side EA Guingamp respectively in the transfer window.

Marseille have also brought in France winger Dimitri Payet from Lille and forward Saber Khalifa from Evian TG.

As part of the Lemina deal, Marseille sold Raffidine Abdullah and loaned fellow midfielder Larry Azouni, two home-grown players, to Lorient.[/article]
