Barcelona have made Gerardo "Tata" Martino their new coach. The Argentinian, who led Newell's Old Boys to the semi-final of the Copa Libertadores, will sign a three-year deal at the Camp Nou, following Tito Vilanova's decision on Friday to resign because of a recurrence of the cancer that he first suffered in 2011.
Martino will be accompanied by his normal backroom team, including the assistants Elvio Paolorroso and Jorge Pautasso. It is not yet clear if Vilanova's assistants, Jordi Roura and the recently signed Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, known as Rubí, will continue.
Barcelona spoke to the 50-year-old Martino before the weekend, as soon as they knew that Vilanova had to step down, and they reached an agreement by video conference call on Monday morning. Barcelona hope to make a formal announcement and hold a presentation in the coming days. Contracts are still to be formalised, however, and Martino is not expected in Barcelona until Wednesday – too late to take charge of the club's friendly against Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich.
Timing has been a key factor in the appointment, both from the perspective of the club and that of the coach. Real Sociedad and Málaga had approached Martino about taking over as manager this season. One of the reasons that he turned both clubs down was that Newell's were still competing in the Copa Libertadores. A semi-final defeat to Atlético Mineiro meant that he is now available.
Barcelona also spoke to the former midfielder and Barcelona B team coach Luis Enrique, who was widely considered the favourite. Luis Enrique, though, had only recently committed his future to Celta Vigo for the coming season. The other man that Barcelona had in mind as manager, both when Guardiola stepped down and early this summer, was Ernesto Valverde. But with Vilanova believing at the time that he was well enough to continue, Valverde agreed to join Athletic Bilbao.
It remains to be seen whether the final decision came from the board and the president, Sandro Rosell, or the sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta. There has also been some suggestion that in consultation with the squad, Martino emerged as a more popular appointment than Luis Enrique. Leo Messi, like Martino born in Rosario, publicly praised him more than a year ago and Martino is an admirer of the Barcelona player. "It turns out that 20 years later, we [Argentinians] have the best player in the world again," he said.
Martino's appointment breaks with a recent commitment to promote from within and, going back further, with Barcelona's Dutch identity.
Yet Martino is considered a student of Marcelo Bielsa, under whom he played for Newell's, and a man who is likely to represent a certain degree of continuity at the Camp Nou. Bielsa had been among those coaches from whom Guardiola had sought advice as he set out.
Martino, though, is considered more pragmatic than Bielsa and far more adept at handling players on a personal level. He is a legend at Newell's, whom he dragged out of a crisis to win the title and has a stand named after him at the club's stadium. He is best known in Spain for managing the Paraguay side that narrowly lost 1-0 to la selección at the 2010 World Cup.He likes his side to pressure high up the pitch and play attacking football, based on dominating possession.
"I identify with Barcelona," Martino has said. He has supported the way the Catalan club have looked to play in recent years and defended them against critics who, he insisted, have unfairly sought to diminish their achievements.
Tito-Tata to play Tiki-Taka tango flavour.

Nacer Chadli - Tottenham (£7 million)

Tottenham have confirmed an agreement has been reached with FC Twente to sign the Belgium winger Nacer Chadli for a reported £7m.

The 23-year-old Chadli, who will discuss terms and undergo a medical with the Premier League club, has spent three seasons in the Eredivisie with Twente and scored in both Champions League ties against Spurs during the 2010-11 season.

"The 23-year-old, who has been capped on 14 occasions by his country, joined FC Twente from Apeldoorn in 2010 and went on to make 106 appearances for the Dutch side, scoring 31 goals," read a Spurs statement.

Chadli has 14 caps after representing Morocco in a non-competitive fixture before deciding to play for Belgium.

He made a name for himself at Apeldoorn before enjoying a successful spell in the Netherlands, scoring 31 goals for Twente and prompting Spurs to make their move.

He is likely to become Villas-Boas' second major acquisition of the summer following the signing of Brazil international midfielder Paulinho from Corinthians.

Foday Nabay - Fulham

foday4x3101-417759_478x359.jpg

Fulham have signed 15-year-old Foday Nabay from Birmingham City, after Blues boss Lee Clark tried in vain to keep hold of the emerging talent.

Nabay handed in a transfer request at the Midlands club before sealing his move to Craven Cottage, much to the dismay of Clark, who was desperate to retain the teenager’s services.

Despite his youth, Clark had tipped his starlet to make the step up to senior level in the forthcoming campaign.

He said: “I made it clear to Foday in several meetings with him that he had the potential to become the youngest-ever player to appear for Birmingham City's first-team this season.

“That's how highly I rated him and how highly the club rated him. I wanted him to stay but as a football manager I couldn't have done any more.”

Scouts from Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool had been monitoring the England under-16 midfielder in recent years, but the youngster has ended speculation by signing scholarship terms in west London.

Zoumana Bakayogo - Leicester (free transfer)

bakayogo-4-3-lc6013-003280-936708_478x359.jpg

Leicester City Football Club has completed the signing of Ivorian defender Zoumana Bakayogo on a two-year contract, subject to Football League approval.

The 26-year-old full-back finalised personal terms and completed a medical on Monday, joining the Foxes as a free agent following a four-year spell with League 1 side Tranmere Rovers.

An athletically gifted left-back, blessed with great natural pace, Bakayogo established himself as one of League 1’s outstanding defenders during his time on the Wirral, combining solid defensive instincts with an adventurous attacking approach.

He becomes City manager Nigel Pearson’s first new signing of the summer.

Pearson said: “A number of clubs were interested in signing Zoumana this summer and we were one of those that had been monitoring him for a considerable period of time.

“I’m really pleased he’s chosen Leicester City. It’s important to us that we recruit players, not only with ability, but also with a desire to play for and work hard for this Football Club.

“He’s a good player with a great attitude and I’m sure he’ll fit in well with the current squad we have.”

Zoumana said: “This is a big club and a big challenge for me, stepping up into the Championship. I’ve taken the chance, I hope to have a good season this year and do well for the team.

“The Championship is a new league for me so I will have to work hard to catch up to the pace, but I’m looking forward to working with everyone.”

Born in Paris in 1986, Bakayogo began his career as a youngster with Paris Saint Germain, before moving to London in 2006 to join Millwall. He spent two and a half years at The Den and made 22 appearances for the south-east London club, several alongside Foxes defender Zak Whitbread.

He joined Tranmere in July 2009 and immediately established himself in the first team, making 34 appearances in his debut season. He would go on to play nearly 150 games for Rovers, including 52 in his final season, in which he also weighed in with five goals.

Sergio Asenjo - Villarreal (loan with option to buy)

Villarreal have agreed a deal to sign former Spain Under-21 goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid with an option to make the move permanent.

Atletico won the race to sign the highly-rated Asenjo from Real Valladolid in 2009 but he has found opportunities limited at the Vicente Calderon, where David de Gea and Thibaut Courtois have been first-choice goalkeepers during his time at the club.

The 24-year-old, who suffered a serious knee injury while at Atletico, spent the 2010/11 season on loan at Malaga and he is now heading to El Madrigal for a similar stint with promoted Villarreal.

A statement on Villarreal's website read: "Villarreal, subject to the signing of the contract, have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid for goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo, who will play on loan for the 2013/14 season at the Yellow Submarine. Also, Villarreal, have the option to buy the goalkeeper at the end of the loan period."

Sau Niguez - Rayo Vallecano (loan)

phpThumb.php

Saúl will play on loan at Rayo Vallecano next season after the club reached an agreement with Atlético de Madrid. Although there are still a few formalities to finalise the loan deal, Rayo hopes that these will be completed in time for the midfielder to travel to England tomorrow with the rest of the squad, where it is set to spend a week of its pre-season.

The deal allows Rayo to satisfy Paco Jémez's request in terms of midfield signings, whilst Atlético guarantees that the Under-20 international will gain the valuable first-team experience he needs to develop as a player, which he looked unlikely to get at the Vicente Calderon this season.

The excellent relationship between both clubs proved crucial to complete the deal and there is still a possibility that other Atlético players could also make the move across town to Vallecas.

Alan Tate - Yeovil (6 mths loan)

Gary Johnson has added to his squad with the loan signing of Swansea City defender Alan Tate.

Tate joins the Glovers on a deal until January 2nd 2014 subject to subject to international clearance

The six-foot-one defender started his career at Manchester United before joining on Swansea City on loan in 2001. He then joined the Swans on a permanent basis in 2004 and has made over 250 appearances for the Welsh club.

Alan joined Leeds United on loan in Novemeber making nine appearances for the Yorkshire club.

The defender has joined up with his team mates and will be in tonight's squad for the tie against Exeter City at Huish Park

Shane Ferguson - Birmingham (loan)

Lee Clark has strengthened his squad by re-signing Newcastle United's Shane Ferguson on loan.

The Northern Ireland international has penned a deal that will keep him at St. Andrew's for the 2013/14 season.

The 22-year-old left-sider had an impressive loan spell at Blues last season between February and the end of the 2012/13 campaign. He made 11 appearances and scored one goal, which came from a terrific free-kick in Blues' 4-0 demolition of Crystal Palace.

Ferguson is equally as comfortable playing on the wing or at full-back.

The Derry-born youngster is a product of Newcastle's Academy and to date has made 32 senior appearances for the Magpies. He signed a five-year deal with Newcastle in 2011.

Blues boss Lee Clark admitted it taken time for him to bring Ferguson back, but was delighted to have finally got his man.

"I’m absolutely delighted to be able to bring Shane in," said Clark. "It’s taken the longest of all the deals but he was one I wasn’t going to give up on.

"He did really well for us last season and I'm sure the fans are very happy to have him back. I think it will be good move for him playing week in and week out, which he hasn’t really done at a first-team level, because he’ll get stronger and stronger.

"I’ve also want to thank my old club Newcastle who have done really well for us in terms of the way they’ve structured the deal financially for us."

Gonzalo Higuain - Napoli (€37 million)
Pepe Reina - Napoli (loan)

Gonzalo Higuain and Pepe Reina “have passed their medicals,” revealed Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

He announced the news on Twitter this evening, effectively completing the transfers. Striker Higuain arrives from Real Madrid for €37m, while goalkeeper Reina is on a one-season loan from Liverpool.

“Higuain and Reina have passed their medicals and will soon join the group,” said De Laurentiis.

“On Monday evening we will have a huge celebration at the San Paolo. You can get to know the new players and more.

“You’ll discover the new jerseys, listen to the new club anthem and meet the Napoli Cheerleaders. Napoli-Galatasaray is going to be a great night that will remain in our history.

“We can say that we’ve worked hard, but we won’t stop here! Forza Napoli Always!”

“Higuain is a player who scored, many, many goals,” said Coach Benitez on Sky Sport Italia.

“The club is doing great work, from President Aurelio De Laurentiis to director Riccardo Bigon. We want to create a winning project with more figures to introduce for the next three or four years.

“We are trying to create a strong club for the future, including a new training centre, and with these buys I think we will be even stronger.”

Josip Elez - Lazio

Lazio have officially bought Under-19 Croatian international Josip Elez from Hajduk Split.

The Biancocelesti released a statement this evening confirming the news, although a deal had been in the air for some time.

It is a permanent buy for the tall 19-year-old centre-back, who made only two appearances in the Croatian HNL League last season.

Elez underwent his medical in Rome on Tuesday.

Lucas Biglia - Lazio (reportedly €8 million)

S.S. Lazio have signed Argentine international midfielder Lucas Biglia from RSC Anderlecht.

Biglia arrives in Rome for a fee reported to be in the region of €8m. The 27-year-old former CA Independiente player, capped 11 times by Argentina, has signed a five-year contract with the 2013 Coppa Italia winners. The playmaker had been at Anderlecht since leaving his homeland in 2006, winning the Belgian First League title for the fourth time last season.

Marcos Angeleri - Malaga
angeleri_crop1.jpg

Málaga Club de Fútbol has signed Argentinean-born Marcos Alberto Angeleri (Treinta de Agosto, 07/04/1983), a right winger, who last season played in 23 matches in Argentina’s Closing and Opening Tournaments. With the Estudiantes, Angeleri won the Opening Tournament in 2006 with Diego Simeone as coach, and the ‘Copa Libertadores’ in 2009, and has represented his country on four occasions. The defender has signed with the Blue and Whites for the next three seasons, and will be officially presented this afternoon at 5:30.

Marcos Angeleri made his debut with Estudiantes de La Plata in 2002 at 19 years of age, and was named as one of the team’s major players in the 2006 Opening Tournament triumph under Diego Simeone. After losing out to Porto Alegre in the 2008 ‘Copa Sudamericana’ final, the Estudiantes were proclaimed champions of America’s ‘Copa Libertadores’ a year later. After a spell with Sunderland, the right winger returned to Argentina and the Estudiantes de La Plata in 2012. Angeleri took part in 23 matches last season in the Closing and Opening Tournaments in Argentina, before joining Málaga CF in the summer of 2013.

On 11th February 2009, Angeleri made his international debut with Argentina, under coach Diego Armando Maradona, in a friendly against France. On 28th March, he played for his country again, this time in the starting-11, in a 2010 World Cup qualifying match against Venezuela. In total, Marcos Angeleri has worn his country’s colours four times.

Marcos Angeleri, Málaga Club de Fútbol’s new signing, passed the routine medical tests first thing this morning at Clínicas Rincón. The player then signed his contract with the Blue and Whites, and will be presented this afternoon at 5:30.

Former Brazil international Julio Baptista is quitting Malaga and will return home to join Cruzeiro after an injury-disrupted two and a half years in Spain, the La Liga club said on Wednesday.

"Julio Baptista and Malaga reached an amicable agreement on Friday to terminate the striker's contract," Malaga said on their website (www.malagacf.com).

"Malaga would like to wish the Brazilian the best of luck for the future and his new career with Cruzeiro," the Qatar-owned club added.

Ben-Haim1_2903110.jpg

Former Manchester City and Chelsea defender Tal Ben Haim has signed a two-year contract with Standard Liege, the Belgian club have confirmed.

The 31-year-old Israeli, who was a free agent after leaving QPR in the summer, spent nine years in English football with seven different clubs after signing for Bolton from Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2004.

A statement published on Standard's official website read: "The club reached an agreement with the Israeli defender this afternoon.

"The player has signed a contract for two seasons with Les Rouches."

Ben Haim has made 72 appearances for Israel and also represented Sunderland, Portsmouth and West Ham during his time in England.

Bradley Wright-Phillips - New York Red Bulls

wrightphillips_a_620_130724.jpg

The New York Red Bulls announced today they have signed forward Bradley Wright-Phillips. Wright-Phillips will be added to the team’s roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.

“Since Bradley’s potential was first recognized by Manchester City and the England’s Under-20 side, he has proved to be a goal scorer of note, whether playing up front or as a winger. We are delighted to sign him,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh. “He will certainly add another dimension to our roster with his pace and technical ability.”

Wright-Phillips’ career started in 2004, when he graduated from Manchester City’s academy and played for the Premiership side until 2006. The 28-year-old then moved onto English side, Southampton, where he amassed 111 appearances and scored 22 goals. From 2009-11, Wright-Phillips featured for Plymouth Argyle before the former English Under-20 International moved to Charlton Athletic. At Charlton, Wright-Phillips scored 31 goals in 82 games. Wright-Phillips was most recently at Brentford on loan, playing 15 matches and recording 5 goals.

Javier Saviola - Olympiacos (free transfer)

1009477.jpg

Former Barcelona and Real Madrid striker Javier Saviola has joined Olympiacos, the Greek club has confirmed.

The 31-year-old striker has signed a two-year deal with the Super League champion and will play under coach Michel, who took over at the Athens club in January.

A statement on the club's official website also confirmed the Argentinian will wear the number nine jersey at the Karaiskakis Stadium.

Saviola left Malaga on 30 June when his one-year contract expired and he reportedly rejected an offer to return to his boyhood club River Plate, as well as shunning a move to Brazilian side Santos.

Olympiacos becomes the eighth club of Saviola's career, taking the place on a list that also features River Plate, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Sevilla, Monaco, Benfica and Malaga.

In 2001 he joined Barcelona from River Plate as a 19-year-old for £15 million ($25.1 million) and, after loan spells at Sevilla and Monaco, he joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2007.

His stay at the Santiago Bernabeu was an unhappy one and in June 2009 he was sold to Benfica.

He experienced a return to form last season at Malaga, scoring eight goals in 19 Primera Division starts for Manuel Pellegrini's side, which reached the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League.

And by joining the Greek champion Saviola will now get another chance to compete in Europe's elite competition.

Eric Djemba Djemba - Partizan Belgrade

Djemba_naslovna.jpg

Former Manchester United and Cameroon midfielder Eric Djemba Djemba has joined Partizan Belgrade on a two-year contract.

The announcement came hours before Serbian champions Partizan host Armenians FC Shirak in the return leg of their Champions League second qualifying round, with the first leg having ended in a 1-1 draw.

"After negotiations that lasted all day on Tuesday, the two parties hammered out the contract details today and the player will be eligible to play for Partizan in the Champions League should the club advance into the third qualifying round," Partizan said .

The 32-year-old defensive midfielder had two patchy seasons at United from 2003 to 2005, failing to break into the first team before moving to Aston Villa where he made just 11 league appearances from 2005 to 2007 and was loaned to Championship side Burnley.

Djemba Djemba spent one season at Qatar SC and reinvigorated his career at Danish top-flight outfit Odense, scoring three goals in 109 league games from 2008 to 2012 before joining Hapoel Tel Aviv last year.

He was a member of the Cameroon team who won the 2002 African Nations Cup and played for his country in the World Cup the same year.

Internet forums suggest many Partizan fans see him as an ideal replacement for stalwart Milan Smiljanic, who has joined Turkish first division side Genclerbirligi after helping the Serbian champions to a record sixth successive league title.

Karl Henry - QPR (£1 million)

BP3_iLSCQAUgL72.jpg

QPR have completed the signing of Karl Henry from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Henry becomes Harry Redknapp’s third signing of the summer, after Rangers agreed an undisclosed fee with the League One club for the midfielder’s services.

The 30 year-old has signed a two-year deal at Loftus Road.

Redknapp believes Henry – who has made over 400 professional appearances throughout his career to date – will prove to be a key acquisition, telling www.qpr.co.uk: “I am very pleased to have him here – it’s a really good deal for the club.

“He’s a good character and a winner, the type of lad I like. I think he will come in and do a great job for us.”

Redknapp added: “We’re trying to change the club around a bit and Karl’s another piece of the jigsaw that can hopefully help us build a team that can challenge for promotion.

“He’s a combative midfielder and you know what you’re going to get from him week in, week out. He’ll be ready for the Saturday, Tuesday slogs and you know you can rely on him.

“Like Danny Simpson and Richard Dunne, he’s been promoted to the Premier League before so he knows what’s needed.”

Henry, who will train with his new QPR team-mates tomorrow (Wednesday), added: “Harry Redknapp being manager was a massive pull and a big attraction. I spoke to him and hearing where he wants to be I jumped at the chance of joining the club.

“I have been promoted to the Premier League before and played for a few years in the top-flight, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The Championship is a tough league and it sounds like Harry wants to bring in the kind of players that will get this club out of the division which is fantastic.”

He added: “I always want to win, whether it’s a game of football or a game of monopoly. Hopefully that mentality can help the team.

“It takes hard work to get out of this division. Team spirit is key; to make sure everyone in the dressing room is pulling in the same direction. If you work as hard as other teams and you have better players you win the game – it’s that simple.

“I can’t wait for the challenge.”

Luis Farina - Benfica (undisclosed fee, reportedly €2.3 million)

71298_fari%C3%B1a.jpg

UEFA Champions League group stage contenders SL Benfica have further strengthened their squad with the signing of Argentinian midfielder Luis Fariña on a five-year contract.

The 22-year-old arrives for an undisclosed fee from Racing Club de Avellaneda, for whom he made his debut in 2009. He links up with compatriots Ezequiel Garay, Eduardo Salvio, Nicolás Gaitán, Enzo Peréz and fellow summer signing Lisandro López at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

The attacking midfielder becomes the Portuguese club's eighth new face of the close season as they rebuild for the 2013/14 campaign. Bruno Cortez, Steven Vitória, Stefan Mitrović, Lazar Marković, Miralem Sulejmani and Filip Djuričić have also stepped through the entrance door at the Lisbon club.

Vagner Love - Shangdong Luneng (reportedly €12 million)

3609343ecc7649a5ec2317500501fe52461-vagner-love-wechselt-nach-china_485x364.jpg

Brazilian forward Vagner Love have officially joined Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng, the soccer club said Wednesday.

After nearly three months of selection, the club chose Vagner Love as a new foreign player, said Shandong Luneng.

Vagner Love, 29, played for Russian football powerhouse CSKA Moscow before the move.

Vagner Love started his career at his homeland side -- Palmeiras. He left the club for CSKA Moscow after only half a year. During his following five-year-stay in Moscow, Vagner won two Russian Premier titles, four Russian Cups and UEFA Cup in 2005 during his stay in CSKA, and he became the top scorer in the Russian top league in 2008.

Vagner later played with Palmeiras, Flamengo and CSKA successively. He returned to CSKA earlier this year after one year in Flamengo.

Having also won the 2004 and 2007 Copa America titles with the Brazilian national team, Vagner was believed to receive a huge offer from Shandong Luneng.

As usual, Shandong Luneng did not disclose details of the deal.

According to the club, Romanian player Marius Niculae terminated his contract with Shandong Luneng on the same day for injury, as Vagner moved in. However, Niculae just had a hat trick on July 21 at a friendly game, which stirred heated online discussions on the club's foreign players selection policy.

Shandong Luneng F.C., coached by former Real Madrid, Barcelona and Serbia coach Radomir Antic, are standing second at the Chinese Super League (CSL).

Michael Chopra - Blackpool (free transfer)

chopra-4x3204-943259_478x359.jpg

Blackpool can confirm that striker Michael Chopra has joined the club on a permanent deal from Ipswich Town.

The 29-year-old has agreed a one-year contract with an option for a further year and will wear shirt number eight.

No stranger to scoring goals against The Seasiders, Chopra started his career with Sunday's pre-season opponents Newcastle United and had numerous spells with Cardiff City prior to joining The Tractor Boys.

Chopra has scored 105 goals in his professional career so far, with 19 of those coming during his time at Portman Road.

The striker will link-up with his new team-mates for the first time tomorrow.

John Eustace - Derby (free transfer)

-agc0209129-941415_478x359.jpg

Experienced midfielder John Eustace has today become Derby County’s fifth summer signing.

The 33-year-old central midfielder has signed a one-year contract with the Rams, effective from 1st August 2013, after impressing during a pre-season trial with Nigel Clough’s side.

Solihull-born Eustace was a free agent this summer after leaving fellow Championship side Watford at the end of last season, and he linked up with Derby for the start of pre-season training last month with a view to becoming a permanent member of the squad.

His arrival will commence a second spell at Pride Park after he made nine appearances during a loan period towards the end of the 2008/09 season, shortly after Clough’s appointment as manager.

Manager Nigel Clough commented: “We’re very happy to sign John and it’s no secret we’ve tried to bring him here permanently on a few occasions in the past.

“He’s got good experience and he’s a type of player we haven’t had in the squad for a while, so he’ll be vital both on and off the pitch.

“He’ll be very good for our midfielders as well, he’s got bags of experience and that’ll only help them improve as players too.”

A trainee at Coventry City, Eustace made 98 appearances for the Sky Blues between 1998 and 2003 in the Premier League and First Division.

He had loan spells at Dundee United in Scotland and Middlesbrough before moving to Stoke City in 2003 and he made 84 appearances for the Potters during four and a half seasons in the Potteries, as well as heading to Hereford United for a brief loan stint in 2006.

Eustace joined Watford on the final day of the January transfer window in 2008 for a fee of £250,000 and went on to make 168 appearances for the Hornets, as he established himself as one of the most consistent defensive midfielders in the Championship.

During his time at Vicarage Road he did enjoy a brief spell with the Rams, making nine appearances before returning south to sign a new contract, and later, wear the captain’s armband.

Iriney - Watford
Joel Ekstrand - Watford

WATFORD FC can today (Wednesday) confirm the permanent signings of midfielder Iriney from Granada and defender Joel Ekstrand from Udinese.

Brazilian Iriney joins from Spanish Primera Liga outfit Granada, for an undisclosed fee. The 32-year-old (full name Iriney Santos da Silva) has penned a permanent deal which contracts him to the Hornets until 2015.

Ekstrand’s move is made permanent after the Swedish defender spent all of last season on loan at Watford. He has signed a three-year deal at Vicarage Road.

The 24-year-old made 36 appearances in all competitions under the guidance of Head Coach Gianfranco Zola last season.

Iriney began his career in Brazil, before moving to Spain with Rayo Vallecano in 2002.

The defensive midfield enforcer also spent time with Celta Vigo, Real Betis (as captain) and Almeria.

Ok, so they've not got them in on loans like last season but does it make much difference to the complaining Championship clubs? Despite the change in the loan rule, look at the 14 summer signings they have made - 11 from the sister clubs. Fact that they're part of a network of clubs owned by same owner was always going to be the issue. Let's see if Napoli's president does purchase an English club as he suggested a couple of month's ago.

Kevin Gameiro - Sevilla (reportedly €7.5 million plus potential add ons of €1.5 million)

top.jpg

Sevilla have announced the signing of striker Kevin Gameiro from Paris Saint-Germain.

Gameiro, 26, joins on a five-year contract after making just seven league starts for PSG last term.

The arrival of the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ezequiel Lavezzi limited Gameiro's playing time as PSG cruised to the Ligue 1 title.

Signed from Lorient in 2011, Gameiro was one of the first players to join PSG following the takeover by the Qatar Investment Authority.

However, the signing of Edinson Cavani will have been another blow to his hopes of first-team football, and he will now boost a Sevilla side that has lost stars Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo to Manchester City in the close-season.

A statement on Sevilla's official website read: "Kevin Gameiro has now become a new player of Sevilla FC, after passing a medical examination and signing his new contract.

"The striker will have a buyout clause of €40million. Gameiro will be presented this (Thursday) afternoon at the Sanchez Pizjuan, where fans can see him in a Sevilla shirt for the first time."

Gameiro scored 23 goals during his two-year spell with PSG.

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of Olympiacos winger Djamel Abdoun for an undisclosed fee.

The Algerian international, who has 11 caps to his name, has signed a three-year deal at The City Ground after leaving the Greek champions.

The 27 year old was raised in France and spent his youth career with Paris Saint-Germain and Ajaccio before opting to further his career with Greek side Kavala.

He wasted no time in making an impact, racking up the most assists in the 2010-11 Greek Superleague to develop a reputation as one of the division’s top players.

Despite his form Kavala were relegated, but Abdoun was handed an immediate return to the top flight with a move to Greek giants Olympiacos.

He quickly became an important figure for the Athens outfit, racking up 28 appearances in his first season as they scooped a second successive league title.

He remained a pivotal figure in 2012-13, notching eight goals in a campaign which saw him pick up another league winners’ medal and experience Champions League football against the likes of Arsenal and Schalke.

This isn’t Abdoun’s first foray into England – he had a brief loan spell at Manchester City in 2007 – and Forest manager Billy Davies is confident that the winger will be a big threat to opposition defences this season.
