Confirmed Summer Transfers (2013/14)

Wilfried Bony - Swansea (£12m + potential add ons)

bony-11-4x358-904533_478x359.jpg

Swansea City have completed the £12m club record signing of Wilfried Bony from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem today, subject to work permit clearance.

The striker completed a medical at Swansea’s pre-season training camp in Holland earlier in the week and put pen to paper on a four-year deal that was finalised today.

The £12m move, with potential add-ons to follow, smashed the previous £5.55m record transfer fee paid to Valencia for Spanish winger Pablo Hernandez last summer.

It also completes Michael Laudrup’s summer search for a top class hit-man after a productive 10 days in the transfer market for the club.

“This move has been talked about for quite some time, so I am delighted it is all completed,’’ declared Bony.

“Now it is important that I focus my mind on the challenge ahead because I hope to make the Swansea fans very happy.’’

Bony was a scoring sensation in the Eredivisie last season, with the striker’s 31 goals in 30 games not only earning him the top scorer award but also clinching him the Dutch Player of the Year title.

It also enabled Vitesse to finish fourth in the Eredivisie – meaning they will play in the Europa League’s third qualifying round along with the Swans.

“The Europa League is my first focus,’’ added Bony, who finished the tournament’s top scorer while at Sparta Prague with nine goals. “I enjoy playing in Europe; I am used to it.’’

Bony started his career in his homeland with Issia Wazi, later moving to the Czech Republic to sign for Sparta Prague, who he helped win their national league title in 2010.

His form attracted the attention of Vitesse, who paid just over £3million for his services midway through the 2010-11 season.

In his first full season at Vitesse, Bony was top scorer with 12 goals from 28 league games.

But it was in the 2012-13 campaign which he was truly prolific, finding the net 36 times from 36 games in all competitions.

On the international stage, Bony has eight goals in 20 caps, and was on target during the African Cup of Nations earlier this year as Ivory Coast reached the quarter-finals in South Africa.

“I am looking forward to joining the training camp out here in Holland as a Swansea player and building up good communications with the team and coaching staff as quickly as possible.’’

Victor Wanyama - Southampton (undisclosed fee, reportedly £12 million)
victor-wanyama-signs-for-southampton.jpg

Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Kenya captain Victor Wanyama on a four-year contract.

The industrious midfielder moves for an undisclosed fee from Scottish Premier League side Glasgow Celtic, where he won the title in 2011/12 and 2012/13 as well as last season's Scottish Cup.

Wanyama was crowned as the SPL Young Player of the Year at the end of last season, during which he made 49 appearances and scored nine goals.

One of those goals came in the Hoops' memorable win over Spanish giants FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League last November.

Wanyama's signing is the latest demonstration of the Club's plan to recruit young and talented players on long-term contracts, and follows on from the arrival of Croatia international Dejan Lovren last month.

"It feels great and I am happy to be here," Wanyama said immediately after putting pen-to-paper at St Mary's this evening.

"Finally it has happened and we've come to the end [of negotiations], so I am delighted. There were other options, but Southampton is a club with ambitions so I chose to came here.

"Southampton is a good club and it has good players, so I just want to train hard and work hard to be a part of the starting XI. We'll see where that will take me.

"I'm very grateful to be here and I'm looking forward to playing in the Premier League.

"I've seen that the stadium is great and the dressing room is looking good, and I know some of the players. I hope they will help me and I think I will get along with the others, so it will be good.

"I am happy to be a part of Southampton's squad. It means a lot because because it has been my dream to play in the Premier League and now I am here."

Mauricio Pochettino was on hand to watch as his latest acquisition completed his transfer, and quickly expressed his happiness with the deal.

He said: "I am very pleased to have secured the signing of Victor because we are a big admirer of his talents and he will fit in well to the team here at Southampton.

"I want to stress that the deal could have been done sooner, but this shows that we do business on our terms. The most important thing that ourselves, Celtic and the player are all happy with the way it has all gone.

"The fact that a lot of top European clubs were also keen to sign him shows what an attractive prospect Southampton Football Club is to a player who had his pick of the teams in England and abroad.

"I've watched him perform at the top level in the Champions League, and I believe that he will be a valuable addition to our Premier League squad for the season ahead."

Angelo Ogbonna - Juventus(€13 million + potential €2 million add ons)

6d85416e-efce-4118-b04b-aa99d620127e.jpg

Italian international defender Angelo Ogbonna has today completed a permanent move from Torino to Juventus.

The 25-year-old, whose impressive club performances earned him a place in Cesare Prandelli’s European Championship squad last summer, has put pen to paper on a five-year contract which keeps him with the Bianconeri until 2018.

Juventus will part with €13 million for the player’s full registration rights, to be paid in installments over the next three years.

The fee could rise by a further €2 million if Ogbonna achieves certain sporting targets stipulated in the agreement reached by the two clubs.

I would like to point out that I made that post about "hard Africans" before I saw that someone had uploaded pictures of Bony's "bone-on" in another thread.

Asier Illarramendi - Real Madrid (Real Sociedad)

illarramendi1.jpg

Real Madrid have signed the midfielder Asier Illarramendi from Real Sociedad after agreeing to meet the Spain Under-21 international's buy-out clause, reported to be €39m (£33.6m).

The two clubs had been in negotiations regarding a fee for a player Madrid believe to be the long-term replacement for Xabi Alonso in a defensive midfield role, but had failed to find a resolution. Sociedad announced on Friday that Madrid had informed the Spanish Football League they would pay the clause.

Meanwhile, a statement from Madrid said: "Real Madrid have signed Asier Illarramendi, who is now tied to the club for the next six seasons. The player will be presented tomorrow after undergoing the relevant medical tests."

Illarramendi rose to prominence as a key man at Sociedad last season, playing an important role as the club finished fourth in La Liga, securing a place in the Champions League in the process. The 23-year-old then played every game as Spain Under-21s won the European Championship in Israel earlier this summer.

He becomes Madrid's fourth signing of the summer, after fellow Spaniards Isco and Dani Carvajal joined from Málaga and Bayer Leverkusen respectively, and the club made their loan move for the Brazilian midfielder Casemiro permanent.

The Sociedad president, Jokin Aperribay, admitted they did not want to sell the player. "This morning the LFP called to tell us that Real Madrid have activated Illarramendi's buyout clause," he said. "We have a very important year ahead of us with a young coach [Jagoba Arrasate] and we wanted all our players to stay.

"We told Real Madrid that we wouldn't negotiate, and we said the same thing to Asier and his agents. We fought very hard for him to stay and it's been a difficult few days because we really wanted him to stay. We wish him all the best and hope he doesn't forget his time at La Real."

Illarramendi, who has spent his entire youth and professional career at Sociedad, explained he was leaving the Basque side with a heavy heart, but admitted he could not turn down the chance to join Real Madrid.

"It hasn't been an easy decision, it has been very difficult for me to decide because Real Sociedad have given me so much," he said. "I was on holiday when we started to hear about the interest from Real Madrid. There were contacts, we mulled it over and came to the conclusion that it was an offer we couldn't refuse. It's a unique opportunity.

"I thank the board, the academy coaches, the backroom staff and my team-mates. I wish them all the best. This club will achieve great things."

Bayer 04 have signed Roberto Hilbert (28) from Besiktas on a free transfer. The eight-time Germany international joins the Werkself on a two-year contract to 30 June 2015.

Hilbert will train with the first team squad on Friday morning before setting off for the Bayer 04 training camp in Zell am See/Kaprun. He will wear the number 14 shirt. “We have succeeded in bringing an experienced, attacking right back to Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Roberto also has European experience and he gives us another option on the right flank,” declared Bayer 04 managing director Wolfgang Holzhäuser in commenting on the signing of the man from Forchheim who won the German league title in 2007 with VfB Stuttgart and the Turkish Cup with Besiktas in 2011.

And sporting director Rudi Völler is also convinced that Hilbert provides a very good option for the right wing: “Hilbert tackles well, is aggressive and he has the necessary attacking ability to give us more flexibilty.”

“I’m glad the transfer has gone through. Bayer 04 Leverkusen is a great club and I’ve been given the chance to show what I can do in the Bundesliga and the Champions League,” said Hilbert.

Jeremy Helan - Sheffield Wednesday (undisclosed fee)

774369.jpg

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of former loan star Jeremy Helan from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee.

The utility man returns to Hillsborough after two successful loan spells in the 2012/13 campaign, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.

The 21-year-old joined Wednesday on a temporary basis from the Premiership giants in November 2012 and his loan deal was promptly extended in January 2013 after impressing at Hillsborough.

Helan, who is a product of the City academy, made a total of 28 appearances for the Owls last term and proved effective both in the left full back and wide midfield roles.

The pacey Frenchman, who has also enjoyed loan spells with Carlisle United and Shrewsbury Town, attracted the attention of a host of clubs after rising to the fore with the Owls but has committed to Hillsborough until the summer of 2017.

Owls boss Dave Jones said: “We are delighted to get the boy back because we have done a lot of hard work to get him here.

“Other clubs were aware of what he did here last season and wanted him on board but he really enjoyed his time here and wanted to come back.

"To get Jeremy on a permanent transfer represents a really good signing for the football club and is a statement of intent because he is a really talented footballer, he is young and has a terrific future in the game.”

Oriol Romeu has today (Friday) joined Valencia on a season-long loan.

The midfielder has appeared 33 times, scoring once, for the Blues. He is a Spanish Under-21 international and also played at last summer's Olympic Games.

Romeu, 21, made nine appearances for Chelsea last season, but missed the second half of the campaign due to injury.

In his first season, following his switch from Barcelona in the summer of 2011, Romeu had appeared more regularly, earning a run of 12 consecutive matches over the Christmas and New Year period.

Rafael's move from Santos to Napoli has been completed, with the Partenopei paying the Brazilian side €5m.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Stadio San Paolo in recent weeks, but last night the Peixe released a statement confirming the goalkeeper's departure.

The player himself meanwhile, thanked the team he joined as a youngster but admitted it was the right time to leave for Europe.

“I always thought I would finish my career here at Santos,” he told reporters. “But with the passage of time I realized that I wanted to play in Europe and in the Champions League.

“But that does not mean that one day I will not come back and finish my career at Santos.”

Djibril Cisse - Kuban Krasnodar (free transfer)

BOT-PjgCIAExZZY_jpg%20large.jpg

Kuban Krasnodar have signed former Queens Park Rangers and French international Djibril Cisse on a one-year deal, the Russian Premier League club reported Thursday.

The 31-year-old striker's contract has an option of a one-year extension. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

Last month Cisse parted company with QPR, relegated to the English Championship, "by mutual consent".

Cisse, who collected 41 caps and scored nine goals for France, said he was happy to join the Russian top flight side.

"I talked to Samuel Eto'o and Florent Sinama-Pongolle, who both have experience of playing in Russia, before I agreed to join Kuban.," he said.

"They told me that there's plenty of skilled and talented players in Russia and the overall level of the league has risen a great deal in recent years."

Cisse has previously played for Auxerre and Marseille, English sides Liverpool, Sunderland and QPR, Italian Serie A outfit Lazio and Panathinaikos in Greece.

Last season Kuban finished fifth in the Russian league to qualify the club from the southern city Krasnodar for the Europa League.

Full-back Lorenzo De Silvestri will return for another season-long loan at Sampdoria, the club have confirmed.

The 28-year-old spent last term at the Marassi on a 12-month deal from parent club Fiorentina, and the Bluerchiati have confirmed that the Italy international will do the same for 2013/14.

“Sampdoria can announce that we have acquired, on a temporary basis, and with the option to buy outright, the player Lorenzo De Silvestri from Fiorentina,” a statement on their official website read.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink - Royal Antwerp (Manager)

Belgian club Royal Antwerp have confirmed the appointment of the former Chelsea and Holland striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as their new manager.

The Dutchman, who also played for Leeds United, Atlético Madrid, Middlesbrough, Charlton Athletic and Cardiff City, and had been working as a coach at Nottingham Forest, has signed a one-year rolling contract with the second-tier side.

"I am very excited about the opportunity. To start my managerial career here was an attractive proposition because the city's history speaks for itself and the fans are very passionate," Hasselbaink told the club's official website. "To see fans who give their team unconditional support like that, makes you want to give your all as a player or manager.

"Our first goal is to challenge for promotion and build from there. We hope to do that by playing attractive, attacking football and with the help of the fans we can make this project work. This is a fantastic club that has been underachieving for several years – a sleeping giant. The hard work starts now."

Royal Antwerp chairman, Gunther Hofmans, added: "We are delighted about agreeing terms with Jimmy and we wanted to do this for our fans and supporters who have been great over the years during a difficult period."

John Bostock - - Royal Antwerp (free transfer)

bostock.jpg

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has made his first major move as manager of Royal Antwerp by signing child prodigy John Bostock.

The former Tottenham midfielder, released in the summer, joins the Belgian Second Division side on a two year contract.

Bostock had several offers in England with clubs in the Championship, but has decided to work with Hasselbaink.

Antwerp have a reputation for giving young players a chance and Bostock is determined to take it.

Bostock made his debut for childhood club Crystal Palace against Watford when he was just 15 years old before moving to Spurs.

He was at White Hart Lane for five years but was unable to force his way into the team under a succession of managers.

The former England youth international had loan spells at Hull, Sheffield Wednesday, Swindon and even moved to Toronto for a few games at the end of the season.

But this move to work with Hasselbaink represents a big chance for Bostock, who is now 21, to kickstart his professional career.

Baros, the Czech Republic international, returned to his homeland in February and joined Banik Ostrava, where he struck five times in 12 league games.

Matthew Upson has joined the club on a one-year contract.

The former England international has returned following a successful loan spell throughout the closing months of the 2012/13 season, and put pen to paper this morning, as a free agent.

Head of football operations David Burke told seagulls.co.uk, “We are delighted that Matt has agreed to come back to the club. His experience is fantastic and it really shows our intent by bringing in someone of Matt’s pedigree.

“It’s not like he’s a new signing because he’s been with us for almost six months and he knows exactly what we are all about. He brings continuity and stability to the defence, which is what we were looking for, and it bodes well for us to keep the strong defence that we had last season.”

The 34-year-old made 20 Albion appearances between January and May, contributing to the Championship’s meanest defence as the Seagulls conceded just 15 goals during that time.

Upson will join up with the squad this morning and travel to Madrid for the pre-season training camp on Sunday.

Burke added, “His experience will bring more impact to the players as he spends more time with them, particularly during pre-season, which is a key time for tactics and strategies to be embedded into the players. Matt has experienced that at the highest level.

“We finished with the best defensive record in the league and we will build on that for the coming season.”

Upson made his name with Arsenal after a reported £2m move from Luton Town in 1997 and he went on to make over 50 appearances for the north London giants during his six-year stay.

During that time he had loans spells at Reading, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest before signing permanently for Birmingham City for £1m in 2003.

He established himself as a regular Premier League defender with the Blues, while also receiving his full England debut, and racked up 128 appearances at St Andrew’s before a £6m move to West Ham United in 2007.

Upson went on to captain the Hammers and made 144 appearances for the east London side before a free move to Stoke City during the 2011 summer. Upson departed the Britannia Stadium when his contract expired earlier in the summer.

m_sobiech2.jpg

Lasse Sobiech put pen to paper on a three year deal in Hamburg on Thursday (July 11). He will train with his new team mates for the first time on Friday.

Done and dusted. On Thursday afternoon (11.07.13) Lasse Sobiech signed a three year deal with HSV which takes him from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund to the Rothosen. The 22 year old central defender passed a medical in Hamburg. Director of football Oliver Kreuzer on his new signing: "We are getting a 1,92m tall muscular man who has all the required qualities. He is big and strong, good in the air and plays the ball out from the back well. He will stabilise our defence. Despite his young years, he already has lots of experience."

The Schwerte-born defender had played for the Borussia Dortmund youth team from 2003, before he joined Hamburg side St.Pauli last year on loan. He then joined relegated SpVgg Greuther Fürth on loan for last season, for whom he made 24 appearances, scoring twice in the process. In 2009 Sobiech was called up to the German under-18 team. He now has 16 under-21 games to his name. He has also scored twice at that level. On Friday (12.07.13) he met and trained with his new team mates for the first time. HSV.de met him on Thursday:

Dennis Lawrence - Everton (First-team Development Coach)

efc__1373496854_Dennis-profile.jpg

Dennis Lawrence is the latest addition to Roberto Martinez's backroom team.

The former Trinidad and Tobago international has been appointed as first-team development coach to assist Under-21 manager Alan Stubbs as part of Martinez's new-look coaching team.

As well as assisting Stubbs in the coaching and development of the Club's Under-21 side, Lawrence, who also worked under Martinez at Swansea and Wigan, will be involved in ensuring information is filtered down to coaches throughout the Academy set-up.

“That’s the way Roberto has always worked,” Lawrence told evertontv when asked about his new role. “He believes that in order to have continuity and to be able to develop players, the players need to be working similarly to the first team and the coach needs to have an idea exactly what the manager is looking for and exactly what the first-team work is like.

“You’re not saying that you’re then going to go and do the exact same thing but at least you’re working in the same footballing philosophy.

“I’ll be doing the same role I had at Wigan. I’ll be working around the first team and in terms of the Under-21s - Alan Stubbs is obviously the manager - but I will help Alan in whatever way possible.”

The chance to be a part of Martinez’s coaching team once again at Goodison is something he is relishing.

“I’ve had three fantastic seasons with Wigan and I wouldn’t take anything away,” he said. “It’s a very good club, I got on really well with the people there but then obviously when the call comes from the manager himself, I’ve got a good relationship with him, I worked with him as a player, I’ve worked with him as a coach, and I’ve got a bit of loyalty to him because he was the one who got me involved in coaching in the first place.”

Much has been written about Martinez’s attacking philosophy, ideals equally admired by Lawrence.

He said: “In football there’s no wrong or right way in terms of the way you want to play the game but I think the way the manager sees the game being played is the same as I would like to see.

“Hopefully I can bring my experience from playing because some players do learn quicker than others and it’s important you recognise the ones who might be picking up on things a bit quicker and help them understand what the manager wants.”

Meanwhile, Andy Holden, part of David Moyes' coaching staff, has left the Club.

Admir Mehmedi - Freiburg (loan with option to buy)

scf_mehmedi_628.jpg

SC Freiburg have confirmed the signing of striker Admir Mehmedi from Ukranian side Dynamo Kiev. The 22-year-old completed his medical examination on Thursday morning and will initally join on loan, although his contract also stipulates that Freiburg have an option to make the move permanent.

Mehmedi made 84 appearances for FC Zurich between 2007 and 2011, scoring 19 times. In 2011 the front man earned his first international cap for Switzerland before agreeing a move to Dynamo Kiev in January 2012.

"We've been in touch with Admir Mehmedi for many years," said Freiburg's acting sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. "We're delighted the transfer went through. He's a very versatile attacking player who understands the game. He's already proven that he can play at the highest level."

The full-back impressed coach Oleh Blokhin in last season's round of 32 encounter with his new club, which Bordeaux won 2-1 on aggregate. "I am pleased with our transfer campaign. Ciro Immobile has today completed a switch to Torino.

The 23-year-old frontman, who spent last season with Genoa, will now continue his career with the Granata after making the short move across the city of Turin.

Juventus Football Club S.p.A. announces that it has terminated in its favour the current player sharing agreement with Genoa Cricket and F.C. S.p.A. (ex art. 102 bis N.O.I.F.) concerning the registration rights of the player Ciro Immobile. The sum for the termination has been set at € 2.75 million to be paid by Juventus in 3 years.

Juventus Football Club S.p.A. announces the disposal to Torino Football Club S.p.A. of the registration rights of the same player for a consideration of € 5.5 million to be paid in 3 years. At the same time, Juventus and Torino signed a player sharing agreement (ex art. 102 bis N.O.I.F.) related to the same player for a consideration of € 2.75 million to be paid by Juventus in 3 years.

Basically, Juve bought out Genoa’s 50 per cent of the player for €2.75m and sold it to Torino for the same amount. Perhaps as part of the agreement for Angelo Ogbonna's sale.

CofieVerona.jpg

Ghana midfielder Isaac Cofie was presented to the Genoa fans on Thursday after completing his return to his former club.

The 22-year-old was signed from Serie A side Chievo Verona after impressing in his first season there.

Cofie was transferred from a Ghana to Genoa in 2010 and made his Serie A debut in May that year as a second substitute against AS Bari due to his meteoric rise.

But was later loaned to Torino, Piacenza and Sassuolo before being sold to Chievo last summer.

“I am very happy to be back home. For three years around Italy are now finally back. I particularly thank club president Enrico Preziosi,” Cofie said.

“Everywhere I’ve been I’ve learnt something and I also thank Mr Corini for the confidence you gave me at Chievo, darting in Serie A. Now with Fabio Liverani (coach) there will be more to learn. ”

Cofie made 27 appearances and scored two goals which attracted his former employers to pay 3 million Euros for his services.

He was a member of the Ghana squad which beat Sudan and Lesotho last month in the 2014 FIFA World Cup double qualifiers.

Genoa have completed the double signing of Sime Vrsaljko from Dinamo Zagreb and Senegalese striker Moussa Konate.

Konate arrives on season from Russia side Krasnodar on a season-long loan, while Croatian international Vrsaljko joins Dinamo Zagreb for an undisclosed fee.

A number of Premier League clubs had been linked with Konate, but Genoa have managed to lure the 20-year-old to Italy with the option to make his loan move permanent.

"Moussa Konate joins Genoa on loan. The young player will defend the Serie A club colors in season 2013/2014", read a Krasnodar statement.

After being presented as a new Valencia player at the Mestalla, an ecstatic Oriol Romeu claimed that he had been "wanting to join" the club for a "long time".

Romeu was fortunate enough to be chaperoned by a living Valencia legend during his unveiling – none other Rubén Baraja, who welcomed the midfielder to the city and predicted big things for him at the Mestalla.

"I'm really excited to be here and I think we're going to have a good time together this coming year. The club is putting together a really great project, with lots of young players", Romeu added.

Carlos Bacca - Sevillla (€7 million)

1373572477_extras_noticia_foton_7_0.jpg

Carlos Bacca was finally announced in a €7 million transfer for the Colombian striker.

Sevilla’s director of football operations, Mochi, has traveled to Amsterdam according to reports to finalize the remained of the deal to allow Bacca to join the squad as soon as possible.

Bacca comes as a possible replacement for Alvaro Negredo whose future at Sevilla is very much up in the air after receiving heavy interest from English giants Manchester City over the last few weeks.

The Colombian striker may have competition though as it is still highly possible that Sevilla could also seal the purchase of PSG forward Kevin Gameiro in the coming weeks which will give the squad more competition for the starting role.

However, speaking with reporters, Bacca was elated by the chance to join Sevilla and is hoping to help out the team in any way he can.

“I have a strong desire to succeed, I’m very happy to sign for Sevilla.

“I’m coming to a very important league and hopefully I’ll be available to the coaching staff as soon as I can. I want to give one hundred percent to help this fun project. Hopefully, we’ll meet all our goals.

“I send greetings to all the fans, I have received your love and I thank you for your confidence.”
