Clint Dempsey

Kuyt last year didn't play cos the halfwit manager we had in charge had to try and justify the fucking hapless jokes he bought for 20M in his place, so played them instead.

That, and him being 31 and past his best.

There's no point in saying Dempsey is a "better version of Kuyt" based on one season when they're at different stages of their career

22 starts and 12 sub appearances. That doesn't include his 10 cup appearances (3/7) ... That equals 'didn't play'?

Dempsey is a 'better version of Kuyt 2011/12' - there, is that better? Man oh man are people sensitive with Kuyt ... I didn't even insult him!

I get the point, but then what we're saying is he's a decent player who's an improvement on a aging, past his best Dirk Kuyt, but still not probably better than the peak age Dirk, who didn't win the league with us and had alot of people moaning for years on here about him not being good enough.

I do rate Dempsey btw, for a small fee as a part of the squad, because like Kuyt he does give everything and will score important goals, but as Ryan said, we shouldn't allow ourselves to stung this time. Offer what we think he's worth (due to contract and age, probably £5m) and walk away if Fulham or the player take the piss, ala Sigurdsson.

That's obviously what I meant ... Dempsey may be better over the next few years than 'at his peak Dirk' - I dunno. His last two years have been very good, and if he does that for say 3-4 years, then it will be up for debate.

I said I'd be happy for 5 million! That's a 'small fee' in my opinion, and I said if it goes higher than that, it's not worth it (as many have said in this thread!). I have no issues if we Sigurdsson him - I think we should do it more often so people know it's business or fuckoffniss with us.

I know LTW, I wasn't having a go, I'm just saying that Kuyt split opinion, so if we're using him as a benchmark then there's going to be alot of moaning and underwhelmed posters. No change there then!

I just have to be very careful when writing sentences regarding sensitive subjects (unless it's racism threads, where I try to stay out because ... well ... what do I know?)

Wouldn't mind Dempsey but if we sell Carroll and buy 29 year old Dempsey for 10 fucking million, we need our heads examining.

What we need to do is get a second opinion.
The doctor during last summer's window gave us a clean bill of health.

Yes Gary25 I know - a big fucking examination.

I was just thinking - given that Newcastle may take Carroll for 17M - that means we spent £18M on him overall in the scheme of things out of the £50M we got for Torres. I can just about live with that because it means that of the money spent on the big transfers last season - £32M can now be attributed as funds from the sale of Torres.

Is anyone else reading this stuff?

Remarkable.

Ignoring the myriad of other faults in that, & simply focusing on one, that means we swapped torres for downing & Henderson.

Great. I'm a Henderson fan & I think that's a fucking horrific deal.

That is a fucking horrific deal. No questions about it. We turned a good deal for sulky Torres into a fucking horrific deal. People should be slapped from here to eternity. A simple sacking? Way to mildly!!!

I'm not happy to pay 10M for Dempsey with him being in the last year of his contract. 7M and I was happy. Hope he gets us goals quickly to make me forget.

Welcome aboard Lad! Go get 'em!

It's the Daily Mail Roland.
Regardless Del, I may be wrong but think it's a done deal.

360 reporting:
Liverpool look set to bolster their attacking options after they reportedly had a £10 million bid for Clint Dempsey accepted by Fulham.
New manager Brendan Rodgers has gone to work improving Liverpool’s goal-scoring options after the team struggled to find the back of the net last season. The signing of striker Fabio Borini from Roma was completed on Friday, and Rodgers is determined to add Dempsey to his new-look strike-force.
Dempsey, 29, recently rejected a new contract offer from Fulham and has therefore entered the final 12 months of his existing deal. On that basis and due to his age, Liverpool were hoping to land him on the cheap and were hopeful their initial offer of £5 million would be sufficient.
But Fulham are insisting their valuation is met and Rodgers has agreed to meet the asking price. With a fee between the two clubs now agreed, Dempsey is expected to arrive in Liverpool in the next few days to complete the formalities ahead of his switch.
As we reported on Sunday, Rodgers is confident of completing the deal by the end of this week.
It was initially thought that Dempsey’s proposed move to Liverpool was on hold until the future of Andy Carroll was resolved, but Rodgers has decided to go ahead with the deal for the American international.
Carroll’s future appears increasingly likely to be away from Anfield with a return to Newcastle the likeliest outcome. The Magpies had a season-long loan offer rejected by Liverpool, who are more interested in a permanent deal and will ask for £20 million from interested clubs.

According to a video posted on the official website of the Fenway Sports Group, who are the owners of Liverpool, by the New England Sports Network (NESN), the Premier League club will complete the signing of Fulham attacker Clint Dempsey by the end of the week.

I love the way the Yanks put a spin on things, "Borini, added to the team that came within a game of winning the FA Cup".

I know we did like, and our cup runs were good, but anyway.

BBC Sport@BBCSport
Fulham: "We have not received any bids for Clint Dempsey. We would also discourage any bids." Dempsey has 1 yr left on #ffc contract #lfc

Nesn also reported that those stupid blag 'Griffin' boots were real, so I wouldn't hold much stock in what they say tbh.

I posted the same then deleted it after watching the video - "published reports have Liverpool on the verge of completing a deal with Fulham"

If Rodgers was still at Swansea, he'd surely be selling their shit players and buying improvements. Silly me for hoping we'd be so lucky. As is customary when you become Liverpool manager, you turn into a retard, start selling good players for peanuts, and pay millions upon millions for the pleasure of working with a bunch of barely average journeymen.

Fulham deny report of Clint Dempsey signing for Liverpool
Fulham and Clint Dempsey's agent have denied the forward has been sold to Liverpool after a report on the Reds' owners' website claimed the forward had joined the club.
A post on Fenway Sports Group's website said Liverpool had 'added Clint Dempsey to a team that came within a game of winning the FA Cup.'
The website report was later removed.
A Fulham spokesperson told BBC Sport: "It is totally not true. We have not received any bids.

So paying over the odds for 29 y.o. in the last year of contract is the new "moneyball"?

What is the logic behind Dempsey anyway?

British? No
Premiership proven? Not even close to Robbie Keanes premiership proven class
Youn potential? No

No fucking point.

If you want to start getting into the value of things, you could have spent the 40m quid they sponked on Downerson and bought Everton, shut it, used the space for a car park and took half a dozen players who are better than those pair of wankers while keeping the rest for spare parts or a Stevie G / 6 million dollar man type experiment.

Fantastic idea. But we didn't grab it.... So hence we take the 10 for Dempsey and buy the Everton defence and give it to charity or something. I don't want fucking useless amrican idols when we are supposed to catch up with the teams ahead of us on last years table. Like i.e. Everton.
