Our owners can go digging deep for Mbappe and Messi this summer, they've no excuse now, there's no such thing as FFP holding them back

Bad news for one of Leicester, Chelsea or Man United.
Most probably Leicester

But even worse news for football.

So, by the looks of the ruling, city had their pants down, conclusively in the 2014-15 season. But CAS ruled that because that was time-barred as being 5yrs ago, that there's nothing that can be done about that. It seems since that date, City have been doing the same, but have been less sloppy about getting caught about it. City have not denied that the money they got wasn't from Etihad but was actually disguised money from the owner, which is against the rules.

The 10mill fine was for being uncooperative during the investigation, not for being caught doing anything wrong.

Following the hearing, the CAS Panel deliberated and concluded that the decision issued on 14 February 2020 by the Adjudicatory Chamber of the CFCB should be set aside and replaced by the following:

a.) MCFC has contravened Article 56 of the Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations.
b.) MCFC shall pay a fine of EUR 10,000,000 to the UEFA, within 30 days as from the date of issuance of the arbitral award. The CAS award emphasized that most of the alleged breaches reported by the Adjudicatory Chamber of the CFCB were either not established or time-barred.

As the charges with respect to any dishonest concealment of equity funding were clearly more significant violations than obstructing the CFCB’s investigations, it was not appropriate to impose a ban on participating in UEFA’s club competitions for MCFC’s failure to cooperate with the CFCB’s investigations alone.
However, considering
i) the financial resources of MCFC;
ii) the importance of the cooperation of clubs in investigations conducted by the CFCB, because of its limited investigative means; and
iii) MCFC’s disregard of such principle and its obstruction of the investigations, the CAS Panel found that a significant fine should be imposed on MCFC and considered it appropriate to reduce UEFA’s initial fine by 2/3, i.e. to the amount of EUR 10 million.

Who's going to the fume to see them happy?

What's the point of having rules and laws of the game, if you're not allowed to apply them? Absolute shambolic decision from CAS, hope UEFA appeals it. Absolute shambles.

Absolute fecking joke. Corruption at it’s finest. I wonder how many corrupt feckers got brown paper envelopes filled with money. I am raging, this is a travesty. All clubs should do one of two things, massive protests and pressure CAS into actually overturning this decision, or say feck off to FFP and just spend as much as they want. There is no way any other club can get sanctioned now. FFP is done.

So basically the body has concluded that they failed to co-operate with the authorities (which hardly paints them in a good light) and that they did breach the rules but they were time-barred - so they happened too long ago. Well that's fine then.

I'm honestly not sure what the point in fining them €10m when there is so clearly no regard for spending as it hahaha. Either way, no surprise and UEFA, FFP and now CAS are absolutely farcical. Bad news for us but saying that, it's in our hands to get CL football via our on-pitch performances anyway.

So because it happened years ago, there should be no punishment for it?

Go get shagged. What an utter farce. Every decision UEFA now make will just be appealed and overturned. Zero credibility.

So basically if you hide your crimes for long enough you get away with it. Marvellous.

Seriously, Woodward, Real, Bayern etc. Create that private super League for non sheiks only. Get moving. Cancel CL

FFP is dead if this is the ruling CAS is going to make. Is there any higher authority UEFA can appeal it too?.....God,Brahma,Allah,Jehovah,Buddha,Voldemort,Sauron...I don't know mate

Yeah, the rest of the teams in the CL should boycott the competition, this is an absolute joke.

Reminds me of the Dominic Cummings thing. What motivation is there for people to play by the rules now? Everyone can just break them and point to the city case. Wonderful day for the incoming Newcastle owners too. They now know they can do whatever they want.

I actually think it’s better for us that city didn’t get banned - concentrating on just the PL would have been a massive advantage to them. However, that verdict is insane. They obstructed the investigation. So as such there is no conclusive evidence. So they get fined 10m. This now means If you’ve broken FFP rules all you have to do is obstruct investigators so they never get the evidence to prove it. The punishment for doing so is essentially nothing. Absolute farce.

I don’t speak legalese but “most of the alleged breaches reported by the Adjudicatory Chamber of the CFCB were either not established or time-barred“ reads to me like UEFA didn’t make their case, not that City didn’t do anything wrong. There’s a world of difference between “not established” and “false”.

Add to that they still got a slap on the wrists for not cooperating with the investigation. So how could UEFA have proven their case without cooperation? Why wouldn’t City have co-operates if they did nothing wrong? The lawyers won this case, not the football club.

CAS has done football and FFP a huge disservice today. Will be interesting to see the full ruling in a few days time.

It's because the FA and UEFA are retards who copy paste the law into their regulations, because it makes them sound all authoritative and important, with zero idea about the law itself. That's partly why the Suarez case was a shit show over strict liability. In this case, the limitation act in the real world has specific provisions for when the party conceals evidence of the breach, then the limitation only starts to run from the time the evidence came to light. UEFA obviously forgot to copy paste that part, which is why they got fucked.

It was pretty obvious this was going to happen. It also means that FFP is now dead and buried. No wonder Roman is back funding Chelsea.

Looks like UEFA completely fucked it, they didn't realise they couldn't hit them for anything over 5yrs, and also they put up a poor case for anything after that date. Absolutely schoolboy.

I bet city have spent 50mill on lawyers for this and not batted an eyelid as it didn't have to go on the city accounts and the owner could pay for that too.

It shows just how shit UEFA are, doesnt it. You cant even punish teams for breaking the rules that you set.
FFP is either dead, or need a serious change for the future. Probably the first.

30 mill fine and 2 year ban reduced to 10 mill fine for not cooperating. Any team that says yes to a 10 mill fine knows they gotten away with it, big time.

Exactly this. They can have any random 'sponsor' them whatever they like now, and admit again that it's actually a shell for the owner, as they just admitted to UEFA and CAS this time.
