Yes it is. He should be calling it a vote against pay rises for public servants who are now classed as essential workers.

On 28 June 2017 MPs voted on whether or not to lift that 1 per cent cap, meaning workers including nurses might get a pay rise. And the majority voted against it.

Mate there's fucking loads.

I went the chemist a couple of days ago for my prescription, this really old dear came in, mask on, gloves on, with some shopping & to get her prescription. I wrote my number down & gave it to her & told her I'd get her shopping & prescriptions for her, she didn't have anyone else at all.

Gave my number to the girl behind the counter & said I'd be willing to drop off prescriptions for anyone vulnerable or the elderly & to let me know if any needed it, as they're not doing home deliveries currently (which is a bit mad itself tbh!). She must have been a bit wary at first, had to take in my work Id, passport, proof of address & I also took my enhanced dbs check I had done when volunteering at the school just to be sure! I've now been out daily, & have been getting shopping for them too, every day they seem to give me someone else's details who has called in cos they can't get out to get it.

I won't lie, going the shops daily is a complete PITA, it's a horrible vibe, you've gotta queue for ages to get in, avoid people, wait to walk down certain aisles, clean your trolley handles, & then join a long queue to get served, but it's worth it, cos some of these people have no alternative, & it means so much to them. One lady who lives in my street told me she tried to get her prescriptions posted to her but they were late & cos she can't bend over properly she couldn't get them off the mat. I went back & fitted a mail cage behind her letterbox so she can get them without me having to hand them to her. It's horrible to think how many people must be without this kind of support.

The Conservative Government's Herd Immunity strategy, subsequent delays and missteps have been designed to kill just enough people that it crippled the economy and would facilitate a hard brexit.

And yet, all these examples of "boot-licking" are quite hard to find, almost as if......they don't exist.

In actual fact, I find the idea of being unquestioning and believing anything - as long as it supports a political or social agenda - really weird and quite....boot-licky.
Or worse, cult-like, Kool-Aid drinking aquiescence to what you're supposed to think. Picking sides and shutting off discourse. Not healthy.

What I certainly am, is inquisitive, fairly neutral politically (at least by comparison) and generally correct about most things. And I'm surprised you seem so protective over some random Twitter loony who spouts weird, conspiracy bullshit; maybe it's because you're inured to it.
 
I'm seeing some very real and horrible examples of how badly the govt is fucking this whole thing up, as a result of trying to help a little bit. You're the one searching through people's retweet history as you'd rather believe the govt were doing a fine job. Calling out Froggy for spouting propaganda for the state was kinda ironic, given its not only your full time job but what you do here as well.

Fucking hell this must be a tough thread for Brendan to post in, even his hero Woland is rightfully handing his arse to him, that's gotta be bad. You'll notice that he's not even cursed back at him once out of respect once though, whereas Modo, Dantes, Frogfish or pretty much anyone else on the forum would have had a foul mouth tirade back by now.

I watched one of those daily briefings earlier, seems I shouldn't have bothered. They've now turned into very very little news, and the chance for some random hacks to just pick flies over and over and over. Todays favourite was why lines on a graph were 'not fair' and some countries on the chart are incorrectly reporting figures, us being one of them, so we should just make ours up and put a billion deaths a day to make everyone happy.

That isn't really fair, but I'm not - and never have - been arguing that there hasn't been some horrible fuck ups from all states/ governments/ WHO/ everyone everywhere

And as for TwatFlacket, I scrolled down and "searched" for about 1 minute, and that's what I found, which caused some concern. I couldn't be arsed investigating further, as I had already lost interest.

This is as weird and strange as when someone thought I was a huge fan of fucking Winston Churchill, based on the one and only comment about him I think I have ever made, which wasn't even within the general vicinity of fandom - cf Boris Johnson.

Good man, it's just something isn't it and it means so much to the people who need that extra support. Sara, myself and the husband and wife who run the pub have done it off our own backs, it's not something Marsden's have pushed (or backed).

We're not spending money on the usual daily expenses, so £10-£20 here and there on extra shopping has been easy, we've had tonnes of food/essentials donations from locals, it's a proper community looking out for eachother.
 
Big D is getting murdered by the fake news on a daily basis. How the fuck Boris is still alive and not a mutilated corpse is mystery enough, but for him to be getting praised and gaining in popularity is disgusting.

I'm not treating this differently to any other hilarious clusterfuck of a thread that has absolutely and totally fucking needed (deserved?) it, with idiots cry-arsing, bullshitting and grandstanding all over it. And it's also true that even in this radioactive, hypersensitive wasteland, there's been plenty of laughs and occasionally decent discourse, even amongst all the swivel-eyed theories, witless politicking and general bollocks; it's been quite entertaining and informative as a whole.

And your argument would only have any relevance at all if it was the same for multiple other threads I have posted on over the last few weeks. Which it isn't.

As for being a cunt, I don't recall making any "light-hearted jokes" about certain demographics dying, like Texans, or Tories or old Brexit voters; or musing that perhaps this was a man-made US-derived virus; or speculating that people dying was acceptable collateral damage with a political goal, but maybe that was before everyone really started dying properly, and stopped listening to shills pretending this was just like a 'mild annual flu' and any other such conclusions, or quarantines, were 'racist'.

Perhaps my 'jokes' were maybe more painful because they were accurate.

They use hundreds. The votes are what matters, and the democrats won in wisconsin the other day, the supreme court elections, ousting the republican incumbent. The electorate were pissed off at being forced to go out and vote at the polling stations, despite the lockdown, and obviously took their anger out on Big D.

Out of interest, is your local council doing anything to help people?

People who are ‘shielded’ should be getting food deliveries from central government but it is those who might be struggling that are off the NHS radar who can fall through the gaps a little. In my area the local council are providing deliveries for anyone who is facing a problem getting food, but I believe this is variable across different areas.

Local councils should also be starting to match people up with those who have volunteered to help with things like collecting prescriptions etc soon too.

Doing nothing in this context unfortunately puts you ahead of quite a lot of people.

It's shit being really old right now though, so ... yeah, maybe see if anyone needs some help. Then, if you're like me regret it and realize why you're normally only theoretically good, because some old people are really boring and you really don't have much time, and you really didn't want to have a shouted conversation through someone's window for what felt like 8 hrs.
