Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

I don’t think that’s true mate - it’s more that they’ll Government advice isn’t clear and consistent and the measures aren’t as stringent as other countries.

I’ve been working at home all week - so has pretty much everyone I work with - despite the office being open.

My friends in the hospitality industry are fucked - all those casual staff are just fucked - because no-one is going to pubs & restaurants despite them still being open.

They’re still running AFL games with no crowds.

The government seem to be telling people that certain things are “un-Australian” and expecting that to do the trick.

I guess that’s what happens when you elect a shower of cunts to run the country.

Fair, when I say nobody I mean a large portion when it comes to social distancing. The images from Bondi beach were unbelievable.

The whole place will be in lockdown by next weekend.

I agree the government is a joke.

Yeah - there are a high proportion of fuckwits - particularly in the demographic of Bondi beach goers.

The worst example of the fuck up so far seems to be the Ruby Princess cruise ship.

It’s all happening a little slowly and confusingly.

Explain Japan then

Honestly? No fucking clue what they've done to either be spared or to ensure the virus has not spread at all once hitting their shores.

Based on a quick google search though, it seems like they're going to get into serious shit soon.

The UK seem to be following the same curve that happened in Italy. Did the Italians lockdown sooner or later than what is happening in the UK?

The Greeks are talking about total lockdown, you'll only be allowed out to go to the supermarket or Doc's... I think I might go crazy. Apparently lots of people were leaving Athens to go to their villages. The minister of health was on TV telling people that they're not on holiday and that if an outbreak is traced back to them then they could be in trouble. Most motorways here have toll booths and can take a photo of your license plate, so in theory they might be able to do that.

I highly doubt it. I was just studying the figures for Italy and despite nearly 5,000 deaths they have had only 17 people under the age of 50 die - and all those that died under the age of 40 had serious underlying health issues. In fact of all deaths only 3 people had no other illness whilst over 74% had 2 or more (75% high blood pressure, 35% diabetes and 33% heart disease). The average age of all deaths being 80 years old.

It really is hitting old people hard. That said I don't see the elderly in the UK as being quite as vulnerable due to relatively higher 'isolation' compared to Italy's culture of greater mingling and personal contact with family and friends.
Is that because the old folks aren't been given ventilation? I've heard that they're just giving ventilation to the young...

Chinese food in Liverpool is pretty much all gash. Sticky sugary salty shite. No matter what you get it all tastes dead similar and somehow gives you a hangover. However, there's this little Hong Kong cafe down the end of our street that only opens 10 til 3 Monday to Friday and they only have a few things on the menu and they're all boss.

North end better than south end, but yeah, do agree.

I'm saying working in funds doesn't necessarily make somebody smart.

Smart in the sense that it's his job to understand and predict the effect of monetary and fiscal policy upon the financial markets and real economy respectively. Thus when he takes those decisions in government, he will make smarter choices compared to a retard who studied history and politics, whilst debating other retards and drinking, like our fucking cunt of a prime minister who can't contract and die of coronavirus soon enough.

Yep and watch the surge to the shops again after today’s announcement 🙁

Not only are dickheads clearing the shelves in the supermarket, a load of wankers think this is an ideal time to go on holiday! Apparently thousands have headed to the highlands and fucking Skegness of all places.

Maybe this will be natural selection in all its glory.

Maybe they think it is fake news. I take absolutely no responsibility if that is the case and nor should Big D.

This thread definitely confirms Brendan (withoutaname) as a racist, on top of being a wum.

Eh? I can understand if some of the Wuhan Clan are getting bored with the blame game, but what the fuck do you expect?

Tell you what. As a bit of fun, tell me explicitly where you have seen the bad racism, and I will respond if I can be arsed and have nothing better to do. Best effort wins a fried bat sandwich.

Hang on, Italy don't have military on the streets already?!

Nearly 800 people died in the last 24 hours!

As a very left wing man, this is hard for me to say, but FFS, if there's any time to bring in martial law, this is fucking it. (as an aside, please tell me it's martial law, not 'Marshall law' as people keep quoting).

How would the Italian military in the streets persuade anyone to do anything?

*insert Italian tank gear joke here*

Going to MSG is on my bucket list. I think imminent death is more likely than going to New York.

I want to see a boxing match there. The atmosphere there is meant to be something different in comparison to the Vegas/La fights

Oh look, nobody could have predicted this...

Fuck off. 49!?

Why do political leaders so often have these evilly shady Machiavellian lunatics in their ear. It's so common it's almost a trope in real life and fiction, from Rasputin to
Wormtongue in Lord of the Rings.

And now we've got Cummings.

Still, could be worse - imagine if we'd ever been stupid enough to vote for Corbyn? We'd now have Stalin-apologist and the vile corruption of Seumas Milne whispering worm words in his ear.

Yeah but Diane would be doing the mathematical modeling to give us fact based calculations and soothe furrowed brows.

The same SAGE that also states we'll need to keep the strict measures in place for six months, & some restrictions for twelve months, whilst Johnson states we'll 'have this beaten & be back to normality' within twelve weeks?

I'd argue that the government are being selective with the advice they're following, & aren't doing the harder measures anywhere near as quickly as they should.

There's two options in this, the UKs relaxed response is correct, and not so many die and the economy ends up coming out better. Or, they're wrong, hundreds of thousands die and the economy ends up shit. It's a hell of a risk to take.

I think there's now two distinct camps, there's the "we're all going to die" unless we lockdown everything indefinitely until this thing we don't understand goes away; or there's the "let's try to manage this, study this, and mitigate based on evidence". The first one likely crushes all economies which requires picking up from the bootstraps during which time isolation for many becomes a definite death sentence, and the second one damages the economy to a low level of activity but infrastructure and personnel can provide some service levels, susceptible people die early, but life goes on as normally as possible until a vaccine is available.

Of course if you are a lockdown advocate you will presumably break off all contacts and prepare yourself accordingly. That could be tricky now, as any trip outside, say a supermarket shop, could put you in contact with a carrier. Also this virus may have (likely was) been in country long before we even knew it so prepping was required months ago.

The current advice for key workers to continue and all others to self isolate as directed to minimise disruption seems to me a better judgment call.

There will be casualties either way.

By the way, should anyone want to know why UK government has based its decisions on a representative range of the most up-to-date science advice:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/...vidence-supporting-the-uk-government-response

Published Friday.

How dare they call that science. Make a bullshit model, doesn't predict shit, doesn't work, "update" model with the latest data to retrospectively correct your stupid failed first iteration, rinse repeat, remain perpetually behind the curve until you all die. Lovely. Fucking morons. At least I will survive, and some of these pathetic cunts might not.
