Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

Whilst I agree that we aren't 'generally segregated', if you compare us to Spain or Italy, then generations have a definitive distance (physically & mentally) between them here in that comparison.

Hmm. Always reminds me of that cunt who worked at Lime Street in some of kind of fluorescent jacket parking role, and called my Dad a 'pedo' when I gave him a kiss on the cheek to say Goodbye in a restricted parking zone.

And then saw three more of us get out of the car.

Good times.

Pay supermarket workers the same as bankers!
NHS cleaners are as important as surgeons!
Essential workers should be paid 50K a year!
Nobody should have to pay rent again ever!
Teachers should earn as much as the Prime Minister!

Actually, I reckon the entire UK will be agreeing with last one in about 5 days time.

Also, this pandemic changes nothing. When it comes to a crisis, only an idiot would think Corbyn in charge would be a good thing, he's fucking incompetent and most people hate him.

At least Johnson has some achievements he can put on the table - like getting stuck on a zip wire holding two tiny Union Jacks to launch the Olympics when he was Mayor.

Beat that Jezza, you horrible old anti-semitic communist!

In all seriousness I have been quite impressed with the new Chancellor, he speaks well and looks like he know what he's doing. I was a bit miffed when the Sajid left, but he seems OK, although I haven't really actually listened to anything he's said properly.

Including his name.

He used to work for investment banks and hedge funds which makes him smarter than the average politician, but at the cost of being more evil perhaps.

Spain
So deserted are the cities that wild boars have been spotted roaming streets in the centre of Barcelona and elsewhere.
The army and police are on the streets to make sure people comply with the regulations of the state of emergency order.
The vast majority have stayed in their homes.
Only a tiny minority have disobeyed the strict regulations by taking tortoises or toy dogs for a walk attached to pieces of string.
Some have rented out their dogs to stir crazy neighbours.
It is what is known as la picaresca española – a particularly Spanish delight in defying authority.

He has gravitas and actually seems to be concerned about other people, which is quite odd and refreshing for a politician.

Maybe he's a good actor, but he's having a great crisis so far

Here in Czech the government have been most proactive; schools closed before most other (European) countries, borders closed before others; Bars, restaurants etc closed quite a while ago and now it is mandatory to stay in unless you are food shopping and any time you leave your house you must wear a face mask (£700 fine if you don't). Everyone is very compliant and as a result the spread seems relatively under control so far.

I think one of the main reasons the Czech's were so proactive is to do with what Brendan and Farky were talking about; in Czech it is usual for at least 2 and regularly 3 generations of the same family to live in one house and if the infection really takes hold over here the results could be catastrophic.

The Czech economy has grown exponentially over the last 15 years and it has led to quite a paradox between home life and working environment. Many homes in Czech have 2 or 3 generations living together (but now in some cases this is by choice and not due to financial pressures!) and almost all Czech families grow a huge variety of fruit & veg ( the hot summers help) and also still keep chickens, turkeys, geese etc.............. my rural street is the inverse of The Good Life (70's UK TV show) as we are pretty much the only house that does not have an array of rabbits, chickens, goats, etc running around the place.

Work-wise however the Czechs seem very on-the-ball (apart from the public sector); their offices are very modern, they have the latest technology and (most prudently) they regularly allow/coerce office staff to work from home (and give them all the hardware/software required) so that business would not affected by staff member coming to work and spreading cold/flu germs etc. Obviously nobody was quite expecting this pandemic but many Czech businesses that I know sent their staff home over a week ago to work remotely.

I retired 2 years ago when my 2nd child was born (no way I was gonna try working and bring up a 4 year old and a baby in my mid-50's) and when we moved to Czech I intended to stay retired. However..............a newly acquired Czech friend, who happened to own a language school, asked me (as a favour) would I help him out and work 5 hours a week (native English speakers in this town are few and far between and he had none). I figured it could be fun and it was a chance to meet new people. As my job description was "conversational English teacher" it meant that my role was to go to a certain company for 5 hours and chat to 5 people who already spoke decent English just so they could practice.

It was the easiest 5 hours, made easier by 4 of the 5 being women and 3 of them being gorgeous (by English standards). Long story short; every few months "my boss" asked me did I fancy doing more hours and as I was enjoying it so much and apparently I'm quite good at it (you just need the ability to chat shite endlessly - I was made for this job 🙂 ) I told him I'd add hours every so often.

I am now working 25 hours a week, meeting the nicest (and regularly fittest) people and I regularly socialise with some now too.

Anyway; when all the offices closed down I expected a work hiatus of 3-6 weeks BUT all the companies I visit have told their staff that they can keep doing their lessons via skype! I made it optional and told all 25 of them that I was available for lessons if anyone wanted..............next week I have 24 lessons pencilled in!

He is the son of a doctor (father) and pharmacist (mother), so we can hope for an drop of care in him. That said, we are on par with other wealthy rich western nations, so it will all balance.

My wife's two largest clients are from Czech and Mexico. Last year we went to Prague where the owner & his wife met us and drove us out to his hometown (they had both visited China a few times but this was our first trip to the Czech R.) and showed us around his home (as you described - huge and gorgeous) and offices. They pulled out all the stops, we had a great time and some awesome meals in great restaurants. Lovely people.

That doesn't necessarily make him smart although you're possibly working off the basis that most politicians are a bit thick.

Great food in the Czech Republic? Hahaha

Unless you're eating foreign cuisine, it's fucking awful

Very Germanic but yeah we only had one Czech meal the whole time we were there .. and that was less than average.

Hahaha! I love kicking off a food debate.

But Christ alive, there's just fuck all of any interest in that sort of cooking anywhere east of Italy, France and Spain in Europe.

Pierogi. Sausages. Cabbage. Pickled things. Sausages. Potatoes. Meat. Sausages.

Letallec will be in soon, eulogising about the wonderful cuisine of Israel, the Arab nations and Africa, but as everyone knows it is all fucking shit.

One can find sh!t cuisine, in the most literal sense, closer to home. I read once about a French dish involving animal intestine which apparently is considered to taste better if one isn't over-zealous about cleansing the, er, anal orifice at the end of said intestine. Just saying.

At least it's not bat, though, eh?

Yeah, there's fucking horrible shit in all cuisines, but the French invented modern cooking, and is still technically the most impressive in the world.

Chinese food in Liverpool is pretty much all gash. Sticky sugary salty shite. No matter what you get it all tastes dead similar and somehow gives you a hangover. However, there's this little Hong Kong cafe down the end of our street that only opens 10 til 3 Monday to Friday and they only have a few things on the menu and they're all boss.

China is the only place I've ever been where I've been looking for a Western hotel so I could find something edible. That was ages ago though. They've got all the shitty Western chains now.

Uk infected has gone 2.7k>4k>5k in the last 48hrs, so social distancing doesn't seem to be working. Mainly because fucking idiots are ignoring it and the elderly seem to be doing what they fuck they like based on what I've seen and the mrs grandparents behaviour etc.
We're gonna end up in proper lockdown next week I can see it coming. We couldn't play nice and sensible with our toys so they're going to take them off us.
