Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

Covid is a lot like Christmas in ours. Everyone back home playing board games talking about their favourite albums, eating crisps and sorting bevs. Think it'll be like this till someone dies or the money runs out.

Think they originated in a place in the US called Buffalo. Not sure, but think that's right.

Yup, some Italian restaurant owner (or by another version his grandma) in Buffalo, NY whipped out a spicy sauce for fried chicken and the rest is history.

This man was the former Governor of Arizona and a former (Republican, obvs) presidential candidate.

The only zoonotic disease that has killed millions is Swine Flu .. from the West to the world.

If you have a better suggestion as how to feed millions of people I'm sure World Health are all ears.

I'm quite sure the prohibition against pork in the Abrahamic religions, as well as prescribed killing methods, arose from one of these zoonotic plagues.

Perhaps we just need to relook how we prepare the food?

Personally I think wings should be straight off the bat.

I only call them buffalo wings when they have the buffalo sauce, otherwise they're just chicken wings.

Nobody following the advice in Oz.

Gone from 400 to over a 1000 in a 3 days

I don’t think that’s true mate - it’s more that they’ll Government advice isn’t clear and consistent and the measures aren’t as stringent as other countries.

I’ve been working at home all week - so has pretty much everyone I work with - despite the office being open.

My friends in the hospitality industry are fucked - all those casual staff are just fucked - because no-one is going to pubs & restaurants despite them still being open.

They’re still running AFL games with no crowds.

The government seem to be telling people that certain things are “un-Australian” and expecting that to do the trick.

I guess that’s what happens when you elect a shower of cunts to run the country.

You can't tell if people are doing it from those figures, it takes at least a week to come through into the new cases numbers.

The first (Christmas) argument is just around the corner.

Probably a silly question, but will bar/restaurant owners etc be punished if they stay open?
I would be surprised if they aren't. Here in Austria there are fines up to €30,000 for staying open, can't imagine the UK not having something similar in place.

The Greeks actually arrested bar etc owners. I've been surprised by how they're dealing with it. Normally they don't give a fuck and do whatever they want. I was in the supermarket last night and the cashier told someone in the queue to get behind the yellow line.

I'm guessing they all received specific instructions and that probably came with the threat of indefinite closure. Every pub we play at put on their Facebook page yesterday that their doors had to be shut by 12. These are places that are normally open later. Our local is usually last orders at 12pm, they called last orders at 10:45pm on order of management, punters were out by just after 11pm.

There's definitely the threat of either fines or being shut down in place.

There were soooo many lock ins last night. I got invited to two just round by ours & I don't really know many people round these ways. Including one in a very well known bar in Crosby village. The last people left at 4am.

Sara works at our local and was working last night, so I went over, we stayed behind for a bit, but it was just us and management. It was all a bit of an anti-climax, which was probably a good thing, the place was dead. Got to see a couple of the old heads who I likely won't see now for months. It's only really last night that I realised, for alot of these guys, this is their social outlet, many of them are retired and go over for a few pints and a laugh almost daily, without that it's a weird scenario, they'll have to speak to their wives and stuff.

Props to UK gov, huge financial help for businesses and PAYE employees. Self employed need more help, I'm sure that anomaly will be fixed in short order.

Testing to be ramped up prioritizing key workers, vaccine and antibody research ongoing. Health professionals being asked to return to work. Business turning to manufacturing key supplies. I think also most people here complying with advice and directives. Many people forming self help groups to aid older and vulnerable with food, phone calls etc

Two major concerns: can the number of cases be slowed to enable hospitals to cope and how to stay prepared for the recovery.

I wouldn't say props to the Government, they know the measures that are needed and are playing to a timeline they foresee happening, as the number of cases rise, the measures intensify, but help is only being given gradually and after repeated pressure and knowing that it's what other countries have put in place.

They looked after the mortgage payers before rent payers, they put decisions in the hands of businesses and employees to avoid insurance ramifications. These measures and financial help are only coming into place because they'll get linched if they don't, Boris is a fucking idiot.

They sound like charming, cozy alcoholics.

Also, your account here seems crazy casual to me, considering the UK and us are on the same part of the growth curve. At least where I am, it's already been a week of places being shut down, and I haven't been within 5 feet of a human being that isnt my wife or my kid for 10 days. Fully expecting a month of that, but the more people don't take it seriously the longer it will be.

I gave my ticket away for the Madrid game and have stayed in since. I've been the shops, walked the dogs, picked scrote 2 up from the station, and been the pub once for ten minutes. That's about ten days isn't it? All the time I've been screaming at the telly for Boris to do the same. What did it matter economically? Go bust ten days earlier. So fucking what? Seriously makes me so angry. The next two weeks was all preventable, and it's going to be horrible

Meanwhile in the US.. they are panic buying guns with queues around the block.

Presumably they will try and shoot the virus.

It's fucking nuts watching everyone who slagged Corbyn off now scream for Johnson to take all the measures he's been asking for & now decrying the decades of underfunding under the Tories.

Meanwhile Johnson belatedly follows the exact plans, only painfully slowly & only once almost forced into it.

You reap what you fucking sow, sadly we're all reaping what they fucking sowed.

I cant agree with you Mark, all the measures "only being given gradually", they've all been made in the last 5 days! As for which measures were announced first and in what order and the 'motivation' for it...really? Who would want to be in Sunak's shoes right now? Not me for sure.

Did Jez know about the virus in advance, plan for it, but not tell us. I think we should be told.
