Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

You seem to have missed the latest point. If someone wishes death upon you and thousands of others, you have no choice but to wish death upon them first, or indeed to let them die when that outcome is in your hands. To do otherwise is completely foolish.

Boris Johnson witnesses say they will swear on oath he said he'd 'let the bodies pile high in their thousands'

Multiple sources who heard Boris Johnson saying he would rather "let the bodies pile high" than allow a third coronavirus lockdown say they are willing to testify under oath that he made the comments, ITV News reported. The Daily Mail on Monday reported that Johnson shouted that he would "let the bodies pile high in their thousands" than permit a third lockdown, at a meeting last October. Johnson has denied making the comments but ITV News, BBC News, The Guardian and Politico have all spoken to multiple sources who say they heard Johnson making the comments in his office.

Robert Peston, ITV's political editor, on Tuesday said: "I was told by two sources is that the prime minister said this at the end of October in his study. "He was furious because he felt he'd been railroaded into this second lockdown that happened in November. The Daily Mail initially reported he was so furious he'd rather see bodies piling up than a third lockdown. "He was in his study and was shouting. I've got two ear-witnesses to all this and there's a third ... Both of my witnesses say that if asked under oath they would confirm the reports that ITV has put out and indeed the Mail have put out."

Given that we went on to actually have the third national lockdown that he is said to not have wanted, a few months after he is supposed to have said this, it doesn't suggest that he wished death on anyone THAT much, does it?

I don't think the testimony matters anyway. Everyone knows he's a lying twat, he was probs just showing off to his secretary

That may be your view, and as I said, I don't judge anyone too harshly if they have that view, but I still don't wish death on anyone.

For the record, whether he openly wanted to take a herd immunity approach last year is debatable. He said it was a theory, and it IS a theory. Not a very clever one (without a vaccine) but a theory nonetheless. He went onto say that it would be better to take measures to protect the NHS. See here for details as I doubt I've explained it very well:

For the second or third points, I think wishing death on a politician for alleged cronyism or only giving nurses a 1% pay rise is a little extreme. It's probably more of a 'don't vote for them if you feel strongly about it' issue than an assassination issue really.

His original stance was herd immunity. I don't wish death on him but if somebody better than him is in power then less people suffer. One death is hardly much of a price to pay for that. That cronyism leads to less money for lots of services, again leading to more suffering. He also tried to encourage people working from home to unnecessarily go back to the office and the eat out to help out caused case numbers to increase to. I'm actually not from the UK, we handled the whole thing fairly terribly in Ireland too, we unfortunately probably don't get to vote again until 2025.

like, the bodies have literally piled up in their thousands. bit weird that the media only care when it can be twisted into some shit political theatre

The possibility was a shade under 100%. I knew that, and you wouldn't hear it. So now what, you will cope by assuming a very unlikely thing just happened to be true? Got it.
Dantes on CV-19 : reads and interprets to fit his narrative shocker.
Dantes on Trump : tailored everything to fit his narrative shocker, subsequently proven to be 100% wrong.

To be fair half the country thought Herd Immunity was the way to go ... I'm sure some on here did too, and the longer the lock-downs went on the more people wanted to go that route. Sweden was pointed out as the Golden Child ... look how that turned out (of course we all know that route was wrong now).

Cronyism : root them out and make them pay.
NHS : 1% is despicable, most of them went beyond courageously dedicated and should be rewarded for their commitment.

1. As millions rush to register for vaccination in India's COWIN website to be first in queue for vaccination in the next phase where people above age 18 are allowed to get it, the app has crashed.
2. India has now diversified source by getting bother Pfizer and Sputnik supplies (which will also be manufactured under license by Dr Reddy Labs).
3. USA has prioritized vaccine raw material orders from India first..

In spite of all these many Indian states have said that they can only start phase 3 vaccination by end may at earliest as there is simply not enough vaccine. SII's covishield and Covaxin manufacturing is continuing at full pace. No body is sitting idle at present or before with idle capacity due to lack of raw material.

Yet the resident moron Dante thinks that India's covid spike is because of vaccine hesitancy, and Biden bannon vaccine raw material exports to India. Dante please don't reply with a 1000 words, save it. I'm not going to read it.

The only reason India could not vaccinate more than they have done currently is because they over estimated their production capacity and are now rectifying the mistake by diversifying the supply pool. It will take at least a few weeks to match the earlier pace of vaccination which peaked in end march first week April, but they really need to double it....that is the requirement.

So the NHS app is going to be used for Covid passports to travel abroad.

Not really surprising as it already let's us view our vaccination details. It probably just needs to be made a bit more user friendly and add a way to see test status as well as vaccine status.

How the fuck did any sane person think herd immunity would work?

It’s like people in Europe didn’t have access to science.

Crazy.

My guess: it was based on hope rather than expectation. I suspect even the scientists were advising there was bugger all chance of doing anything effective about it at that early stage, so we might as well bet the farm on herd immunity and hope for the best while the science caught up. Rabbits caught in headlights, kind of thing.

It didn't help that some scientists were pushing some sort of agenda. There's a Greek scientist called Ioannidis who works for Stanford, he had published work claiming that the disease wasn't as serious as what it actually is. Since this work was published some of his colleagues have said that he had fudged numbers and they asked not to have their names included in the list of authors.

The really weird thing about him is he was very well respected before this, he had a reputation as someone who had made valuable contributions to evidence-based medicine.

The missus got the Pfizer one a few weeks ago.

Sorry to advise she appears to have suffered no side effects.

Mine didn't have any either, so I can't cash in the life insurance policies yet.

That said I'm delighted your wife didn't come home with a massive hard on after the vaccine
