Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

Well, I know a few people in India (spread around the place). We've one friend in Mumbai and his family are having a horrible time of it at the moment, and a colleague who has been through the ringer with herself, her daughter and her husband all had it but they seem to be through the worst. I hope this thing passes soon.

The wife booked our vaccinations, they're in two weeks and she's shitting herself. I, on the other hand, can't wait. Although if we both feel rough afterwards someone may look after the kids.

Yup. Cases are rising in Kerala and Tamil Nadu also but I think we will avoid Delhi-like scenarios. The next two-three weeks are critical.

Well. Talked to friends and family last night and not so confident now. Too many cases, too many hospitalized.

So those in India think the quality of air exacerbate the situation?
Poor air quality already difficult to breathe in the cities added to a disease that attacks the lungs?

There seems to be a perfect storm case in a number of countries

The festivals and large gatherings
Poor prep
Crazy govt decisions
Etc

Air quality is a much bigger concern in winter - November-Jan months, and that was a better period for us for Covid. So not sure air quality is really an issue.

The biggest issue is the govt completely throwing caution to the wind - mass rallies, festivals, low vaccination numbers and complete lack of any foresight or planning for a future wave.

This variant is utterly deadly, and seems to not be sparing the young and healthy either.

Numbers though are going down a bit over the last week. Fingers crossed that this wave is coming to an end soon.

In some cases it's not even sparing the vaccinated and wealthy enough to send their kids to overseas universities people either.

The most confusing thing about the numbers in India is that they're huge and there isn't a single 5G network in the country

Real concern about the probable increased transmission advantage of the Indian variant in the UK.

From the latest SAGE minutes:

"If this variant were to have a 40-50% transmission advantage nationally compared to B.1.1.7, sensitivity analyses in the modelling of the roadmap in England (SAGE 88) indicate that it is likely that progressing with step 3 alone (with no other local, regional, or national changes to measures) would lead to a substantial resurgence of hospitalisations (similar to, or larger than, previous peaks). Progressing with both steps 3 [17th May] and 4 [21st June] at the earliest dates could lead to a much larger peak. Smaller transmission advantage would lead to smaller peaks."

Yet... data amongst over 45s remains steady. Seems like scaremongering.

Scientists used to be able to predict future data, once upon a time. Now they're absolutely stealing a living by giving their hindsight explanations of past data, which has resulted in actual deaths. Thousands of deaths. Perhaps they're not scaremongering but just being overly cautious so they can sleep at night when the next thousands of death come to pass as a result of their complete inability to predict a single god damn thing because they're all thick morons not fit to spit shine my boots and they know it.

I personally know of people fully vaccinated with astrazeneca, youngish couples, both getting infected and being bed ridden. These are rich engineers in India, who are careful not to mix with random poor people on the streets. In one case they were on oxygen. That doesn't seem like an unlucky coincidence to me when vaccinated people in the same household get taken down. It seems like the particular strain they were exposed to and the viral load they inhaled was such that it gave zero fucks about the astrazeneca's hard work. I personally would err on the side of being scared and/or terrified.

Sounds like you know every movement they had in the 2 weeks before they got ill.

The more people who are vaccinated the less chance of those who have been vaccinated catching COVID. I believe the target % is 80% total of a population to prevent a serious outbreak. The UK is c.69% of adults and c.50% total, India is c.11% total.

Those statistics are like saying only 2 out of 10 penalties get saved statistically speaking. Then your man steps up and misses the first one, misses the next one, you don't put that down to statistics anymore. The player is just shit and should under no circumstances be taking the third penalty. Likewise by the same fundamental reasoning, the AstraZeneca vaccine is shit in the face of the Indian variant.

Thankfully the blood clot crap has led to the young people here taking other vaccines. A more even mixture of different vaccines in the population might be the thing that prevents me personally from dying, which is the most important thing.

You'll be glad to know that under the new CDC guidelines for death classifications that if your friends die of Covid after being vaccinated they won't be classified as a Covid death.

And this is how we will have statistical proof of the vaccine efficacy.

FFS. India's own vaccine seems to be fairing better, which could be because their scientists are not yet as far gone down the woke stupidity hole as ours. Of course thanks to our health and safety regulations you can't ship in a few jabs of the covaxin in order to save yourself, but rather must follow the rules here so that we're kept safely waiting to die of unrelated to covid natural causes.

China: causes pandemic
China: develops traditional inactivated virus based vaccine
India: hmmm I think we'll do the same thing
Russia: we see what you did there, got it
England: nah, lets go with this new technology that folks like dirty sanchez and his diverse team of immigrants did the research on, it'll be fine

I think you're mixing Viral Vector (AZ) and mRNA (Moderna & Pfizer) with your Dirty Sanchez dig there.

Fauci is beginning to come under scrutiny now.

The lizards must be ready to throw him under the bus

I said this earlier in the thread, but I wonder will the conspiracy theorists who said there's no such thing as the virus and/or it's not that deadly will then scream about how China needs to pay for it all if it comes out that the virus did leak from a lab?

Astrazenenca side effects should include shaking like you have Parkinsons. Hats off to M J Fox, that guy risks his life every time he brushes his teeth.
