Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

Fuck that - keeping you infected UK fuckers in the UK and not out spreading this shit round the world is priority one.

I wanna know when we reach the point where the world cuts it’s losses and scorches the UK out of existence.

I say the rest of the world gets all Ripley on your ass.

Your just shoving it in our faces with your Aus Open of 30k attendance and now trying to take the Lions tour from South Africa while the rest of us can just cling on to memories even remotely attending a sporting event 🙂

Oh, yes but can't blame all those Chinesey ppl. They must be protected.

UK? Naaa let's scorch it..cos some mutation.

For the good of the world, and it's not an easy decision believe me and to appease the masses let's scorch Kent and say a 50 mile radius around it??
Deal?

Can I move first please?

Isn't it a bit easier to lock Australia down when hardly fucking anyone comes or goes compared to here. New Zealand is the nearest place and it's like a three hour flight away and there's fuck all there.

Even so locking down entire cities because one person gets it is not only Draconian but totally unsustainable.

I'm not arguing for the idiotic model we've got over here, I'm saying there's got to be a happy medium. Not that I've got a fucking clue what it is

I’m willing to accept that as a start.

Richey... get packing.

Dantes.... what have you done with the thermonuclear warheads?

Happy medium... yep... we blow the shit out of stuff.

Perth has just gone into a snap 5 day lockdown.

A security guard at a quarantine centre tested positive. So they've gone nuclear.

Not sure why 5 days mind you. Surely it should be 14 days.

Time to test those deemed to been in the same space?

That’s partly it.

The security guard has been all over Perth - multiple different places with - so you lick people down, in theory you stop people who may potentially have in spreading it further.

It’s also the UK variant - hence why the nuclear option - same as when Brisbane had a snap lockdown for a weekend.

It does make sense, although it seems extreme - even though Perth is one of the most remote cities in the world (NZ is closer to Melbourne than Perth is) and there isn’t much of anything once you go further west than Adelaide, until you hit Perth.

My daughter and partner loved Perth ! Haven't been there yet myself - prefer NZ when we're down there, where half the family live.

There you go, licking people down again.

Viruses are constantly mutating, there are hundreds, nay thousands, of mutations a year. Most don't have any noticeable effect.

Yep. The virus that spread around the World was surely not exactly the same as the one first detected in China!

I guess that the issue is how different the new variants are and how fast they change. If the variants are not so different and change very slowly then it doesn't matter so much, as in the future vaccines can be altered to stay ahead of it.

Margaret to the south of Perth is lovely, if you like food, wine and beer.... and surfing.

No prizes for guessing what I like about it.

Perth is pretty good - it has a big country town feel to it - I quite like it - it’s pretty spaced out - has a big UK and South African ex-pat community....

.... but a lot of bogans.

A lot of bogans.

OK not really for me then. Though that's why my daughter likes it! Had to look up bogan.

New study shows the AZ vaccine has only limited protection against mild disease caused by the South African variant.

No trialists died or were hospitalised, although they were young and healthy trialists. The neutralising antibody activity was equivalent to that of other Covid-19 vaccines.

The trial was with just 2k people and not peer reviewed.

I guess they can tag covid boosters to the annual flu refresher, it’s just this time it will be more mass but even the current flu vaccine in UK now includes schools.

Yea I'm not too concerned about the SA variant but it's not what I wanted to read after having the AZ vaccine 3 days ago.
Probably best to wait for more conclusive evidence but in the meantime be consoled in that whatever circumstances your risk of severe Covid is greatly reduced. Wish I could get any vaccine jab over here (as a foreigner we aren't even on the list so will have to find an alternative, maybe via the consulate) !

Unless I'm misunderstanding, if the neutralising antibody is at a similar level to the other vaccines then they will show similar results, it's just the the AZ one is the first to have properly tested against the SA variant.

The antibody reference was about immunity to severe disease, not mild disease.

The Pfizer vaccine has had some early studies on variants.

"on 20 January, research carried out by Pfizer and BioNTech concluded “no biologically significant difference in neutralisation activity” between the variants, meaning the vaccine works against new variants as well.

This research was carried out using blood from 15 patients who had received both doses of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine, the results have not been peer reviewed."

A lot more studies needed though obviously.

If there is no immunity against the mild disease, that means people will still be infected, walk around, infect others, and give the virus millions of more opportunities to mutate a way around the vaccine in order to kill you. So that vaccine will save a few thousand lives this summer, but at the cost of potentially engineering a way to kill everyone by next summer.

Matt Hancock's vaccine rollout was inspired by Contagion. Here's what he should watch next
It’s understandable – if troubling – when politicians are watching disaster movies for tips on dealing with a global catastrophe. Anybody got a number for The Rock?

Like many people, one of the first things I did after the March lockdown in the UK was watch Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 film Contagion. I was completely clueless about the nature of infectious diseases, and I was foolish enough to hope that a Hollywood film might provide the answers. Which is a tremendously stupid thing to do, I’ll admit. The world is full of extraordinary epidemiologists who have dedicated their careers to researching and preparing for the sort of global pandemic that has brought humanity to its knees. If I had actually been interested in learning anything about Covid, I could have read some of their papers, or watched some of their interviews. But no. Instead I watched a made-up film about a made-up disease because, in part, it starred several pretty women. What an idiot. What an absolute, unforgivable bonehead I was for thinking that it would be of any use whatsoever.

Anyway, it turns out that Matt Hancock did the same thing. Speaking to LBC this week, Hancock revealed that viewing Contagion had influenced his vaccine policy. “In the film, it shows that the moment of highest stress around the vaccine programme is not before it’s rolled out – when the scientists and manufacturers work together at pace – it’s afterwards when there is a huge row about the order of priority,” he said.

What more can you say. The end is nigh.

Welcome to how all viruses work. Now tell us something we didn't know !

That after the virus has killed you, your consciousness will endure through a series of recreations in the random fluctuations of the known and possibly unknown quantum fields that comprise the universe. You'll be stuck in this unending torture for trillions of centuries, and that will just be the start of your new future. The only way out will be for you to gradually understand each quantum field, its properties, how it effects the path of your consciousness, and then reversing that calculation to hopefully use your consciousness to exert some feedback control over the next quantum field fluctuation you will experience, and hopefully navigate your way to the peace of oblivion.

Haha welcome back Dantes - glad you're still alive and Q'Anon have not sacrificed you in the mistaken belief that will reverse the election result.
