Looks like they may have to row back on it anyway. It's just a shit show..Yeah, bit of a massive risk gov going against BMA advice of delaying the 2nd shot and focussing on the number of unique vaccination stat instead. UK has so far done in it’s own way, just hope this one works.
Then explain how the AZ Oxford vaccine ends up with higher efficacy with 1.5 doses rather then 2. And note that this was of course found due to a dosing error. If you inject your body with foreign genetic material, and your body produces no antibodies, it would mean you are deceased or have the bad aids. The US approved giving a small first dose, and a full second dose within two or three weeks, that's what was shown to work, and the FDA don't tolerate any deviation from that dosing method. The ethidence that it actually does work hangs by a thread because these scientists are fucking stupid.
Thinking you can just choose a different method, like only the small dose, or a full dose up front, or waiting too long between doses, is beyond fucking stupid. It takes that tiny thread of hope you have that it works, and cuts it. Now all you have are prayers that it works.
Then explain how the AZ Oxford vaccine ends up with higher efficacy with 1.5 doses rather then 2. And note that this was of course found due to a dosing error.
If they don't experiment with different dosing amounts and intervals then the most efficient application won't be determined.
I see theres a few news articles about the queue jumping today.Looks like they may have to row back on it anyway. It's just a shit show..
Loads of people queue jumping as well.
My mother got her first jab the other day - with the second due in April.
So far, I’m reliably informed, she hasn’t grown a second head.
Definitely there needs to be a B list. Those who are in other professions still working. My sister got her second one early this weekend (she's a nurse) as the centre she's been helping at put out an urgent call to its staff that they had loads that they had to use within 24 hours. In a way - lucky that they had a captive audience of NHS staff ready and able to quickly get to a second appointment but the wasted doses that are happening are poor.
Did her nob fall off?
I think the media are being fucking pricks, as per.I see theres a few news articles about the queue jumping today.
It's a disgrace. There should be a B list. Not a friends and family list.
Until the next variant or mutation so we can all be gripped by fear again
Thank fuck for that.
In another ironic twist of the brexit tale, it'll be mutation which occurs in Spain. Only it'll be a British pensioner who has to return to blighty because they've already used up their 90 days, thus bringing the deadly Costa del Sol strain with them.Taiwan? Zero cases? Fuck that. It'll be here, the US or Brazil
It will pain you to read the full transcript...

"A six-fold reduction in neutralizing titers was observed with the B.1.351 variant relative to prior variants. Despite this reduction, neutralizing titer levels with B.1.351 remain above levels that are expected to be protective."
"The in vitro study assessed the ability of mRNA-1273 to elicit potently neutralizing antibodies against the new SARS-CoV-2 variants, using sera from eight Phase 1 clinical trial participants (aged 18-55 years) who received two 100 µg doses of mRNA-1273, and separately using sera from non-human primates (NHPs) immunized with two doses of 30 µg or 100 µg of mRNA-1273."

The vaccine was still effective, but just a fuck load less effective against the new strain, going off the bodily fluids of all of eight, that's right eight people, who were relatively young and whose cells could just have fought off the virus in any event.
My friends got their jabs by queueing. Any vaccine left over / not claimed at the end of the day was dispensed to those waiting. Not sure how that worked as we didn't discuss the details but it's a good way to avoid waste.I think the media are being fucking pricks, as per.
Reading the various articles it seems to be that instead of jabs that would go to waste at the end of the shift, they call all the people on the list & if there's still some going to waste after that's done then the volunteers or NHS workers there get them. Then protocol was going to be destroy them, which makes no sense, so the volunteers or NHS staff phoned their family so they weren't going to waste.
Not a satisfactory explanation? They told them quite clearly that the manufacturer fucked up.If EU starts demanding it’s share of vaccines then it could have an impact on the UK vaccine programme:
“The EU has threatened to block exports of coronavirus vaccines to countries outside the bloc such as Britain, after AstraZeneca was accused of failing to give a satisfactory explanation for a huge shortfall of promised doses to member states.
The pharmaceutical company’s new distribution plans were said to be “unacceptable” after it “surprisingly” informed the European commission on Friday that there would be significant shortfalls on the original schedule.
The EU has been due to receive 100m doses in the first quarter of this year. But it is feared that the bloc will only receive half of that despite making large advance purchases ahead of authorisation of the vaccine by the European medicines agency.”
Hopefully they can resolve it.
I'm going to take Brazil. Woland can't pick three countries!Sweepstakes on the next variant?
I'm gonna go for...
Taiwan, in early April.
