Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

Someone said to me yesterday that the first dose gives you 100% chance of not dying, and the second one is to stop you getting it at all. If that's true, it may call for a different roll out schedule.

Someone on twitter said that the situation is like a shit sandwich that you have to eat, but if you don't eat it today then it doubles in size every day that you don't eat it.

Seems about right.

Living for another few hours seems hard enough right now

There is always the option to pack your bags, leave, the flights form heathrow are still operating for some bizarre reason, hang out in a rain forest or something for a bit, then maybe come back for next season. You're not going to miss out on much, and probably save yourself a lot of pain that is obviously heading our way.

Dante used to be a bit funny, like your kooky friend whose a bit weird but harmless..

Now he's like... Well it's just a bit more sinister now

Evidently I'm an essential key worker now.

Working in a fucking car factory.

We're exempt from the Tier system apparently.

I expect all of you cunts to go out and clap for me.

Only when we start scoring or even remotely looking like doing so...

Allow me to depress the ever loving shit out of you:

The varying effectiveness of AstraZeneca’s vaccine reflected differences in how doses were administered in the late-stage trials. In the dosing plan that was 90 percent effective, study participants were given a half-dose of the vaccine and then, a month later, a full dose. The vaccine was less effective when people were given a standard full dose upfront, followed a month later by another full dose. On average, the vaccine was 70 percent effective.
[/article]

Guess which dosing method the government have been forced to roll with thanks to making a fucking mess of the situation? Then do some maths, if the average is 70, and the first number is 90, I might be wrong here, I don't claim to be a human calculator, but it seems to me that the second number must be 50. Then let us factor in the mutation, how much less effective will it be against the new strain? Let's assume 40% being generous. Now lets factor in that this isn't proper science, it's just statistics, and people have a natural ability to fight off infection regardless of the vaccine, which masks a lot of the true effect. What do you suppose that baseline rate is? Let's call it 30% to be charitable.

So this miracle vaccine, in reality is improving our immunity from 30% to 40% in this scenario. You're all going to fucking die. Mark my words.

Typical flu vaccine is what , 50-60% successful?
So I assume in reality it won’t be far off that.

You cannot kill that which does not live. But my solution would be to encase humans inside sterile vats, so that they are insulated from all external pathogens, and then use electrical signals to replicate the experience of being alive in the world.
Along with Netflix, PS5 and a few sex dolls ?

Well it was honest practical advice for one the actual funniest posters here. I'm not as human as most feely emotional people, but when you look at it objectively there is an entire earth/universe, and we're quite lucky to live in it for however short time we can, and so if anything is bringing you down, you don't owe anyone or anything a god damn thing. You ought to just leave and see the planet for a bit.

You misunderstand the priority on this solution. If there is any spare CPU capacity left over after I have run my own algorithms, you might get an Atari. Perhaps. Otherwise be grateful and make do with a deck of cards.

Can it be those porn cards you used to get on holiday in Spain?

I can't go to the next town along at the moment let alone the planet!
And yes indeed we should give thanks

Hahaha oops
Lockdown

Can't undergo Lockdown..... if you've been locked out, can you?

Herd immunity back on the table then once they reach this 13 million target.. (Subject to inflated figures)

In theory that could work.. of they do reach the 13 million target for real..

I suspect knowing our government they will try to implement it earlier.. after the 1st dose of vaccinations., before the 2nd round of doses..

They can only keep us lockedown for so long.. The economy would tank to unprecedented levels..

Extended 12 week break between doses are there for a reason..

The worrying thing from the UK perspective is the lag - the infection figures you see now are likely what things were 2 weeks ago.

I’ve heard 1 in 50 in the UK, 1 in 30 in London, Norn Iron looks all sorts of fucked - and those are likely to rise for a few weeks more to catch up - then another few weeks before any lockdown will impact.

I’d be surprised if you saw cases reducing significantly before the end of Jan.

Let me try and use a different example to highlight what I think clearly shows the different approach I’ve experienced over here.

I was watching the Boxing Day Test and commentators were talking about Steve Smith’s poor form. They made the point that he’d been in a Cricket Australia “Bio-secure bubble” for 5 months (along with other players) so that matches could be played. He hadn’t seen his wife in 5 months and couldn’t see her over Christmas.

This is in a country with low infection rates.

Compare that to the EPL - it’s no wonder cases are spiking amongst players and matches are getting called off.

QLD has just locked down Brisbane for 3 days from 6pm Friday night till 6pm Monday night - all pubs, bars, gym, etc closed - no one to leave home except for essential reasons.

1 person tested positive with the English strain earlier in the week.

One person.

Brisbane has a population of 2.5 million people.

The Prime Minister called it necessary - some states immediately closed internal borders to QLD and the Federal Government is putting more caps on the number of people allowed to arrive in the country from overseas (you’re still straight into quarantine for 2 weeks).

The EMA hack last month has led to some interesting emails about the vaccines being available online

I don't really know what it means but it looks like they tried to push a weaker vaccine than was tested past the regulators

Translation: we fucked the vaccine up because we're morons who think we know how science is done, so let's not worry about that, what's done is done, is there a way we can rejig the existing data in excel somehow, in order to pop out a result that will lead to it still getting approved, because ain't nobody got time to go back to the drawing board with fresh clinical trials.
