Ah yes, that chestnut.
See how dysfunctional our government is? The only solution is to provide it with less money. Now look how dysfunctional it is! I wonder what would happen if we starved it of money! Can't get your post on time? This is why you shouldn't trust the government with your money.
Of course the converse argument is also ludicrous, but another way might be to run the government better.
It's the same logic that has seen millions of people conspicuously evidence how awful they are at performing chores they hate.
Thing is, you know the old chestnut is true.
Anyone with a brain does.
It doesn't follow from that that we shouldn't have a government. It's just worth bearing in mind that they're shit at everything and relying on 'next time it'll be ok' is completely delusional.
I keep hearing the 18th but it's hard to see it being the far away looking at the case numbers. All Scottish bars and restaurants will be closed for 16 days. They can serve non alcoholic drinks but what is the point?
Full on U.K. lockdown is imminent.
BTW i'd wager money that the files being thrown around are actually csv (comma separate values) and idiots are opening them in excel (because you can import into excel) to do some form of manipulation/calculations rather than a proper tool.
CSVs are pretty standard but get screwed up by people who don't know how to utilise them properly.
On the plus side, it doesn't look like the same screw up applied to death numbers so the overall mortality rate of this rise in cases is even further reduced.
Well, China sorted it in less than a year and have been sound for ages. We've had it here for like 8 months and we're up the wall.
Not to get all conspiratorial, but you think the government will relinquish all this tracking and lockdown power once it's sorted? They'll keep hamming it up every few weeks if they think we're misbehaving and shut us all in for a couple of weeks and ground us.
Not to disagree, but part of the problem is that we bolshy Brits are indeed "misbehaving". In China they wouldn't do so nearly as much, for a variety of reasons.

The news reports (that must have been briefed cos they're all in lockstep for once) say they're getting financial support for businesses that are forced to close.Burnham and Rotherham are telling the government to fuck off with lockdowns unless there will be a furlough scheme.
All the countries that took early drastic action seem to have fared better.
In Ireland we're allowing a load of lawyer TD's to talk about how a level 5 lockdown would be disproportionate. But it's what actually might work.
It's clear level 3 hasn't mitigated anything in the counties that have been level 3 for a couple of weeks.
We also have the laughable situation where the police have no power to actually enforce travel restrictions, so to avoid a load of confrontation that they can't win they've set up traffic jams rather than checkpoints. The motorway near me is down to one lane on the pretence that there is a checkpoint , but nobody is actually being checked. A five minute stretch of motorway took more than 2 hours to get through because of it.
Mate.... all our Pubs have been pretty much closed since the end of March - save for a couple of weeks they could have handful of people in in June.

In that respect it may be better for pubs cos most of them are almost empty.
