Chelsea thoughts

I'm surprised we won, but not surprised at the same time. It's typical of us in recent times. We need to pack it in and start beating the lesser sides too.

The fans were fantastic today, too, by the way.

I'll write an essay about the nanny state tomorrow if anyone's arsed. Been treated like a child all day today because I want to have a drink and watch the football, and then the police fucked someone up at Lime St when we got back in an obvious case of justifying next week's overtime. Very sad.

As most of you know I am not a Lucas fan, but I will always give credit where it is due and today is one such day.
I thought that Charlie was fantastic and not for the first time either, he seems to be settling in a little better every month, and winning round more people as we go along.
Bellamy must start every game somewhere.
I would have brought Kelly on when Glen was struggling in the second half with Mata and Malouda, and put the former on the right.

I really thought we had blown it, but credit to the team for keeping pushing forward.

With that defense Chelsea really are in the mix with three other teams for two CL places.

regards

Is it only me that read the first 'regards' in a formal sergeant major tone, and the second in a more relaxed, whiskey supping movie star agent's voice?

What's with the double 'regards'? I always thought that when it happens it's a fuck up, but evidently it's not.

No.................... It's a fuck up, not that it's a particularly riveting topic, it happens when I go back and edit something in a post that I have more or less completed and I don't see the original one as I have tabbed down a few lines and simply do it again

regards

Fair enough, Vlad. I must say I'm a little disappointed that it's not intentionally used in specific circumstances. Ah well.

On a completely unrelated topic, how's mini Vlad? Haven't seen much of him since we left school.

Just a quick few points.

- Delighted for Maxi. I'm one of his fans here and I really enjoy his movement and intelligence. If we're playing well so is Maxi. He creates space and his movement helps Suarez and Bellamy. Pity Raul (cunt) isn't here to play with them.

- We have a lot of pace at the back don't we. Enrique, Johnson, Agger and Skrtel can all move. Pepe playing sweeper in behind them. Nice.

- I love Martin Kelly, He 'gets' defending and I like how he busts a gut trying to stop the winger getting his cross in. Malouda was allowed get too many balls in and it's something Johnson is usually guilty of in all games and not just today. However, Kelly cannot attack with that verve and natural running power so it's still debatable who should play. Kelly isn't toothless in attack by any means and scored recently for the u-21's but he isn't as natural at it as Glen. Can't wait till someone invents a machine so we can combine Kelly's defending with Johnson's attacking.

- Glad we're back pressing teams high up the pitch. It was Rafa's trademark and we will score goals from it. On a side note, I remember Arbeloa was sneak at it.

- Another assist for Adam. He's virtually paying for himself before we even hit December. I give Chuck a world of abuse at times for being an indulgent jerk but he's a fine player.

- Great save from Pepe, wouldn't swap him for any keeper in the world.

The onyl regret is that the result means we didnt get to see Voltaires Glove in action ....

People talk about the lack of pace in our side and it is a concern but fuck me where's the pace in this Chelsea team? Cole and Sturridge aside, they're badly lacking in that department.

A certain 50M player they don't want to play.

au contraire, Suarez, Hendo, Bellers, Maxi, Kuyt, Gerrard, Glenjo, Enrique are all nippy enough

Even fatty adam waltzes past players like they arent there at times.

I've edited that for you (crossing out those that are merely average paced players) as I'm afraid you are wearing red tinted glasses.

As soon as I saw their line up and ours I knew we would win.

They are vulnerable because they play a high line with an ageing CB, an ill disciplined CB and an attacking LB. And Mikel is not good enough as a DM to pick up the runners.

In the first half you could see our domination was due to us pressuring their back line and DM and getting players running in between the lines. That's what Adam, Suarez, Maxi and Bellamy are good at.

My frustration? Boas spotted his error and rectified it by subbing Mikel and changing tactics and they scored and then dominated and put us under pressure and we dropped back off them. Its was pretty clear that we were on the back foot for quite a time after their goal and I'd have liked us to change things to nullify their presence and I think he left it too late again.

But overall we were the better team and deserved to win. Our CB's were immense today.

One little thing, how the fuck does a huge lump like Drogba get knocked to the ground so much? Oh yeah, cos he's a fucking cheat. Like Ramires, and like Luiz. They have some nasty spiteful little cunts in their team.

I'm waiting for Spidey to explain again why Lucas should be replaced in CM by Henderson.
Lucas and Adam is a really good base to build a team around.
In fact the spine
Reina
Agger/Carra/Skrtel
Lucas/Adam
Suarez

Is pretty fucking special.
But i noticed a comment or two in the match thread that summed up the 'fans' and Lucas (and I didnt even bother to read who said them so im not being a dick) :
During the first half he went in to win the ball from luiz who went to ground, and feigned injury...INSTANTLY posters started saying 'Silly lucas' 'Typical lucas' 'Brainless from Lucas' etc, then the replay came on and showed it was a nothing challenge and GARY FUCKING NEVILLE said 'There was nothing in that lucas very unlucky there' GARY NEVILLE!!
Brainless Lucas.

I don't think anyone would argue Lucas is a good player, and he was phenomenal yesterday, he does have a habit in occasional games of just turning awful, it's baffling, I'd say that those games this season were more down to him and Adam getting used to each other and i don't think we'll see many more of them. He just needs to pick up a couple of months playing like yesterday without any of these games and everyone's doubts will be gone. Regardless at 24, he's good, young and experienced and the next year or two we should see him step up to being a very good player in this league.

I think they need protection in front of them though and that's where it showed yesterday. On paper Chelsea went with three in the middle and I thought they'd done it to swamp Lucas and Adam, but Maxi/Kuyt/Suarez did so much work infront of them.

Winning at Chelsea without Carra and Steven Gerrard. We didn't even need them, and I'll be honest I completely forgot about them before, during and after.

How times have changed eh?

Yep, I felt pretty much the same, which is refreshing. It's also good to know we have Bellamy should the worst happen over Suarez, he's no direct replacement but at least it's a bit of a like-for-like. Onwards and upwards, I really hope we do Citeh next week.

late to the party but anyway -

1. johnson
what a fucking goal, with finishing like that maybe we should play him as a striker.
the approach play was brilliant and the finish was sublime.
that said johnson was all over the fucking place and allowed way too many crosses to come in, he really needs to learn to tuck in when we are under the cross and stop getting dragged out of position, just jocky the guy with the ball and stop chasing the runner like a school kid on the playground.

2. suarez
a disasterous game from him. maybe we need to think about resting him when a flies halfway round the world. someone said he was holding up the ball, excuse me, what? nothing stuck when we were under the cosh and the ball kept coming back. nothing was coming off for suarez but you can understand kenny leaving him on because he is capable of a moment of brilliance even if he is having a mare.

3. adam
so he isn't a one season wonder, I thought he was excellent and the guy sees the entire pitch like alonso used to. the pass for johnson took out a half the chelsea team.

4. lucas
snuffed out danger well, I still think he shouldn't be playing the majority of home games but lucas is tailor made for games against quality opposition.

5. suarez, maxi, bellemy
were pulling the chelsea defense all over the shop first half there movement is amazing and creates so much space that teams don't know how to deal with it. I would like all three to start most games but I don't see that happening.

6. skrtel and agger
allow us to hold a high line and press the opposition in their own half. you can argue carra is a but out and out defenders than both of them but they (agger and martin) allow us to play in a specific manner. kenny has a big choice on his hands of whether to call on carra for what will be our biggest game of the season (so far).

7. pepe as much as johnson won us the game because I really don't see us coming back to win had the chelsea header gone in. we don't have many world class players but pepe is numbered amoung the select few.

8. kenny
brilliant team selection and good first sub to flood the midfield.

general thoughts;
the first half showed what kenny wants long term, high pressure, high impact pressing, I thought we were magnificent in the manner we chased after chelsea first half we obviously ran out of steam and also boas changed around the midfield shape to counter this.

the introduction of henderson to flood midfield was a good one if for no other reason than to give chelsea another body to attempt to bypass.

we have a very quick backline and all four are resonably comfortable on the ball.

the importance of attacking fullbacks can't be underestimated, not just because of johnson's goal but because they pushed back cole and (the other guy), in the first half they were key to our high impact pressing, the reverse of this is obviously when you are under the cosh you need them to be able to defend but you can teach some how not to get pulled out of position you can't teach someone to do what johnson did yesterday.

I think you need to watch the game again re Suarez Neil, there's more to holding up the ball than standing there like a lumbering oath using all your strength to shield off the opposition player. He used his first touch time and time again to keep hold of it and try to play someone in or try the one two.

Disastrous game? Are you having a laugh?

I thought he was making the wrong choice time and time and again and trying to chip the keeper when playing in kuyt would have given kuyt a free run on goal was fucking idiot.
maybe I do need to watch the game with regards to suarez holding up the ball but to me it seemed when we sent the ball upfront it came straight with nearly constant pressure from chelsea second half and I was only talking about the second with regards to suarez' failure to hold up the ball.

I don't think that Suarez was at his best yesterday and seemed to tire badly in the second half.
Things that normally go right just didn't happen for him yesterday.
That said, Suarez not at his best, is an infinitely better option on the field than Andy Carroll at the moment and still caused Chelsea loads of problems

Is Kenny the only player manager who's won the double?
Yes, yes he jolly well is !

(Unless there's some big moustache mutha fucka from the 1880s who did it).

Disastrous is obviously going a bit far. If you're comparing him by his usual high standards you can say he wasn't his best. He was still one of the best players on the pitch.

Exactly.

I wish suarez would keep it simple when things aren't going his way, but that said I guess he needs only ONE of his tricks to come off so maybe it is best to keep trying them but I feel he tries the audcious with every single pass when a simple, obvious ball can be just as effective.
