Chelsea thoughts

Mata was attacking on our right side, fakes a cross, Glenn does fuck all to prevent the fake- instead he protects his balls...Mata runs past him and puts in a easy cross.

Not-very-good-defending from glenn.

I like him but his poor defending against Chelsea was sooo obvious.

I don't agree we showed more fight v chelsea than other times of the season, our season can be summed up with two words, 'poor finishing' rather than 'no fight'.

when he hasn't scored in 4 games.
It's why I also advocate dropping downing, kuyt and hendo, and rotating between the 3 until one of the cunts finds form. Each should get 2games without a goal, or judged on their overall contribution. If they perform well and don't score then persevere another 2 games and review.

So he's scored 9 goals in 5 games, and if he doesn't score in the next four, so has 9 in 9, so you'd drop him?

It's not as easy as that. You have to look at other things, it's not all about goals anyway. Kuyt and Maxi both offer a lot, even when they aren't scoring. Downing maybe not so much.

Some players don't find form when on bench either, some need to play themselves into form, and dropping them would only make things worse. Obviously playing players into form isn't worth it when their best form isn't great. But for the likes of Maxi and Kuyt their best definitely is.

Adam's pass for Johnson was Alonso stylee. He did a few against Swansea too, straight to feet from miles away but the passee ballsed it up. He's ace.
He pings it straight into touch just as often. And anyway, the long cross-field ball is as overrated as tackling. How often do you see Xavi whack it 50 yards across the field?
So just because Alonso didn't do it so much it isn't worthwhile? Adam's passing has set up lots of great attacking positions for us, including the one that ended in a goal on Sunday. Yes he does ping it into touch, but you don't win if you don't buy a ticket, and such passes are lower percentage plays. As shown on Sunday, the reward can be well worth the risk.

If a number of players capitalised on the chances he created against Swansea, it would have been a rout.

Dirk doesn't need games to get his form up, he needs christmas to come and go. He;s borderline diabolical in the opposition half at the moment so i would have no qualms at all in benching him until he's partied the year away in jan.
If a player who is in such a purple patch as maxi is, doesn't score in 4 games i would drop him. He offers little elsewhere so i'd happily drop him.
Downing SHOULD have assists by now. His first few games he was electric, but since then he's obviously fed up with no one scoring from his plethora of set ups. I'd be willing to be more patient with downing as he normally is guaranteed to whip in a decent cross or 2 a game, and is accomplished at helping the full back out

Hendo is an enigma i can't crack. I think he's our super sub for the moment.

I don't agree, with all but one game (spurs) we'd done enough to win all 3 points, we've certainly created enough chances to win games. I guess you could argue it's the wrong line up because we failed to pick players with the ability to put those chances away.

Dirk is certainly the weakest link in the side at present and he isnt playing very well. That said its either got to be him or Carroll supporting Suarez and at the minute id slightly prefer Carroll i think.

Something like this.

---------------------------------------Reina-------------------------------------------
Johnson-------------Agger-------------------------Skrtel-------------------Enrique
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------Lucas----------------Adam--------------------------------
Maxi--------------------------------------------------------------------------Bellamy
--------------------------------Suarez-----------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------Carroll-----------------------------------------

For me.... i don't know. Carroll does need to play himself into form so i'd be open for him to play, but then i feel its criminal not to play downing (who SHOULD have some assists if people weren't gash at finishing), but i don't want to drop bellers or maxi

a real conundrum for me

Against city i dont' think carroll should play, but suarez and bellamy should be up top. Downing coming in for dirk

On past evidence I would go with Suarez and Dirk upfront. Dirk has played well when he's been partnered with Luis upfront.
Either or really mate. Im not arsed so long as Maxi, Bellamy and Suarez play to create havoc.

Am I the only one thinking that Bellers has to be up front with Suarez?

To me, it was only when he got shifted out wide and then taken off that Chelsea began to get a grip on the game

I think too much is made of johnson's defensive weakness, for instance he was rock solid for us on the left and and was rock solid for england against spain and was even rock solid for us first half when the entire team pressed chelsea. johnson looked vulnerable when the entire team backed off when under the cosh and as for the chelsea goal look at the space around malauda when he picks up the ball, that goal is collective team fuck up, not just johnson.
Watch that England game again, he got lucky with 2 offside calls where he alone had actually played Spain on and if the linesman had got the calls correct it would of resulted in one on one's both times. He also had that awful header clear that led to Villa hitting the post. I wouldn't call that rock solid. He could of been responsible for 3 goals on another day!

The biggest problem with his defending is never trying to stop the player getting the cross in, it's so frustrating, just stands off and gives the opposition time to put the ball in.

I disagree, I don't think Mata moving inside and Sturridge coming on made *that* much difference (although obviously it made quite a bit) relative to the difference it made losing Bellers influence.

For me as soon as he moved out wide Chelsea's back line had time on the ball, time to turn and start playing through us, spreading it out wide etc. I think his impact on the game has been massively underestimated

Yep, he's very often flat footed and lets wingers glid past him as if he's not there.

It's poor play and he needs to sharpen up that side of his game because it's cost us goals in the past and will do in the future if he doesn't stop it.

For what it's worth, i thought Johnson's attacking play was super against Chelsea. he really drove forward and used the ball well. however when it came to defending, he was dodgy and Chelsea clearly targetted him.

We should really give him a go at right mid. I think he could potentially be class there.

Another thought, if you're going to dance after you score - make sure you're Brazilian. And even then you will look like a fucking twat.

Yeah Sturridge. I'd be well up for us signing him if he didn't do this shit. It's the only reason not to, but a big one.
