No not some Irish folk duo.

Im taken back to an interview Carragher gave a few years ago when asked what we needed to reach the next level.
His answer was simple 'Better players'

Ryan has many times on here posited that the biggest problem we have had is we have been reliant on one or two matchwinners for decades.
Owen and Fowler
Owen and Gerrard
Gerrard and Torres
Gerrard and Suarez etc

Maybe im being caught up in the hype of the Euro run but we have just got threat all over now.
How as a defence can you control Firmino, Coutino, Lallana, Sturridge and Milner when they play like that. To a lesser extent Moreno and Clyne too, I know they dont score much but they occupy opposing fullbacks rather than opposing wingers, meaning we often have 4 or 5 players attacking vs 2 centre backs and a DM. Its frightening really and the best options we have had in a long time. With Ings and Origi to come back in next season im really optimistic about the future. Obviously we have to keep Coutinho thats absolutely vital to us this year and winning this and getting Champions league would go a long way towards that.

But my main point is this.
If we sort out our defence and a keeper i genuinely believe we will be there or there abouts for the league next year.
Lovren has been immense and if the other lad coming in forms a good partnership next season we are in with a real shout. I would sign a DM to allow Can to be box to box and keep Milner in one of the attacking berths, but really the options are limitless.

I know Vardy and Mahrez and Kane are getting all the plaudits this year but its the defences of those 2 teams along with Kante and Dier who have enabled them to fight out for the league. Our front 6 is better than anyones right now imo we replace Mignolet with a proper keeper and get a DM to sit and maybe a stronger LB and we honestly have some real chance next season.

I know I know its always next season.
But Carrgher said we need better players. We have those.
And a manager too.
Very positive after the last few months.

I have always agreed that a solid defence and quality goalkeeper are the best place, and that also means finally buying a player who is a top-quality CM/DM (although is Can doing that now?), as well as a new keeper, CB and LB.

But we still lack a bit of genuine pace and goal threat in our attacking positions. Only United have scored less than us in the Top 8. Not one Liverpool player has got into double figures.

Obviously we do have a reliable Premiership striker in Sturridge when fit. And Benteke, but he looks as if he might be out. So that means we require more goals in the side.
Coutinho has stepped up from midfield with a creditable 8 goals, Firmino has 9. Origi isn't going to be prolific.

We're never going to get more than maybe 5 from Lallana, and in CM Henderson has 2 and Can a pitiable one.

We need another central striker and an attacking player who can get us 10-15.

We need a bigger pool of quality players.....More forwards

Lack of depth always cost us. I would be looking to add more fire power, especially if we want to play this high pressing game in the league.

I wouldn't say our front 6 is better than anyone's but I agree with the sentiment. Goals from all over the attacking positions is vital, especially when we can't rely on individuals or Sturridge to stay fit. It was something Benitez spoke about when he first came in, having 4 or 5 players that can get you double figures each.

I don't think we should rest on our laurels though. A world class striker, an upgrade on Lallana (who is winning me over, but needs to add more goals) and basically someone that can come into the first XI straight away and improve the squad.

CB and GK and CF for me are absolute priorities, though.

Can has to stay as the withdrawn playmaker / defensive midfielder he currently is, he's absolutely superb as it, he's the best player we've had since Alonso as dictating the tempo of a game and has been a key player in most of our best performances this season. I agree with Brendans comments in the main, a keeper is a must, a really fucking good one at that, and a strong midfielder to replace Lucas and potentially dislodge Henderson or Milner as a starter is also a must. Up front, assuming we keep Sturridge I wouldn't be too concerned about signing a massive striker, just someone to replace Benteke who knows how to score who is happy being rotated, not necessarily suggesting him, but someone like Hernandez. The most important attacking signing has to be a goal scoring wide player, and thats where I hope we spend big, we've been linked to Goetze which is encouraging as he's exactly the calibre we need, but honesly I couldn't care who it was as long as he's very good, and scores goals.

hmm, were midtable for a reason, I think we need some serious reinforcements this summer to compete.
although Klopp has proven to be a great cup comp manager

He's shown he can motivate and inspire in short bursts. The test will be what he does with something resembling "his" team, and that means a couple of transfer windows.

Because what we all want more than anything is the title.

I think you are being a little unfair on the way the team has performed since January.
We are where we are because we had a poor start under Rodgers and a poor transition. Our form in 2016 has been in the main part excellent with the exception of the games we have basically given up because of cup competitions.
GK
CB
LB
DM
And I think we have a great chance. Teams are struggling to contain our forward line. Issue is we arent containing theirs.

I think since Klopp took over we've generally hovered between 7th and 9th. Never really looked like getting much higher.

I mean we're 8th in the league. If the league started when Klopp took over, relative to other team's performances we'd still be in 8th-ish.

We have only lost 2 league games since January and both of those when fielding weaker teams.
Im not suggesting it hasnt been frustrating but nothing like when he first took over.

The loss to Southampton is the only really bad result given we were leading 2-0
Its been a good few months.

Id be interested to see a 2016 table.

I saw a table like that a couple of weeks ago. I think we were 4th in the league then, from the point Klopp took over and averaging 1,68 points pr game.
Thats maybe 2 weeks ago so things might have changed.

I'll see if I can find the link

Not going to put up a table here, but this is what it looks like in 2016 so far:
1. Leicester - 2.31 ppg
2. Southampton - 2.06
3. Spurs - 2.06
4. Man Utd - 1.80
5. West Ham - 1.80
6. Chelsea - 1.75
7. Liverpool - 1.67
8. Arsenal - 1.56
9. Man City - 1.56
and so on...

If you take out the games in 2016 when we somehow managed to turn wins into draws or defeats, i.e. Sunderland, Newcastle and Southampton, the ppg rises to 1.92.

If we look from the start of the season, Rodgers averaged 1.5ppg in 12 games. Klopp has averaged 1.6 ppg overall since taking over.

So about where we are. But Ahead of Arsenal and Citeh, behind Chelski, Utd.

Klopp's performance against the BIG 6 teams is probably one of the best in the league I am thinking?

Yeah, maybe we could also look at the games we lost and pretend we won instead. What does that make his ppg?

I'm not sure that what Klopp has achieved since he arrived can be quantified in the way those stats seem to show. He's galvanised the club, both on and off the field.
