Calvin Ramsay our second summer signing?

But it's not £10M, it's £5M. It only becomes £10M if he makes the grade, so, at that stage, the unknown quantity and lack of prior premier league experience is irrelevant
Took the words right out of my mouth. If he doesn't make the grade it's £5m (and even then that's only if the rumoured fee is the actual one).

The fees I've seen quoted are 7.5m guaranteed with 2.5m in add ons.

I reckon the reason we’re looking to sign him now is that he’d be here long enough to classify as homegrown - leave it a year and, like Robbo, he’s be classified as OS.

Yeah anything over £5m and we should walk away. Aberdeen look like they are messing us around.

I'd go even further. Even if the revised terms aren't unacceptable in themselves, the fact that they've been upped at the last minute is. Original terms, or they can go fly a kite and make their own peace with their best young player who will be mightily naffed off by losing a move he wants.

Can't be compared to Robbo who somewhat proved that he had the chops to play in the premier League before he joined. I say somewhat because he got relegated twice with Hull.

We had a season of data for Robbo at PL level when we bought him. This is much more of an unknown quantity. £10m would be more than we paid for Carvalho and Elliot combined.

True, but both were becoming out of contract. Ramsay has a contract until 2024.

Personally I'm not overly bothered over a few million here or there. His value shoots up 50% as soon as he puts on a Liverpool shirt and plays a few games.

Yeah because that's how transfers are negotiated 😀 We've seen this happen many times before. Don't need to get sanctimonious about it - it's just business.

And who is to say that Aberdeen have actually set any price and the amount of £5m isn't all media talk based on SPL prices and the fact he's young? Does anyone have a link to them stating that's his price?

Couldn't give a stuff how often we've seen it happen. None of that means we have to roll over for it, plus it would give us a strong card to play in that the player himself wants the move and will be sod all use to them if the deal falls through.

Oh Jules - you sounded like Dirty Harry just then!

4.5m rising to 7m the rumoured final negotiated fee.

Edit.. although the Echo says 4m rising to 6.5m

Passing and technique looks good. Some Trent-esque balls.

Let's hope he's got the speed/strength/stamina to cope with a Rashford/Vini Jnr type (or develops it soon; he is 18).

Oh, and I hope he takes defending more seriously than Trent too, who at times, looks half-arsed.

Given the early start to 22/23 it’s perfect.

Just need clarity on outgoings now

But still no box to box middie.. that we are crying out for. Bellingham + 1 was the aim for me.

I was prepared to wait for Bellingham if we got the +1.

I would be fucking AMAZED if conversations at board level last November said: "If we get Diaz, Nunez and the Scottish lad in by July we're bossing it". I can completely get we are done in the big money move position but if we are able to release the players that contributed the least over the last few quarters I can't see why (after reading @Beamrider's posts) that your "+1" isn't an option.

Offloading Origi (wage only), Minamino, Ox, Mane, Williams (N) & Phillips/Gomez should fund a non-guaranteed starter MF as well as repaying on the three we already have.

Hes already 18 isn't he? If so he won't count as home grown because he can't meet the 3 year criteria before he turns 21

The rule is registered for 36 months before his 21st birthday or the end of the season in which he turns 21.

He turns 21 on 31st July 2024. Which I think classified as after season 2023-24 - which means he can be registered as an U21 player for 3 seasons with us - which should classify him as homegrown.

It’s a grey area perhaps - because the 24-25 season will likely “start” a week after he turns 21 - but I think he just squeezes in - if the domestic season is considered as starting from 1st July.

Ronaldo was 18 when he signed for Utd and is considered home grown - he was at the club less that 36 months before turning 18.

Lukaku was 18 when he signed for Chelsea and is also considered home grown.
