They're sick as a dog, spent months negotiating we came in with our dicks swinging and said here's the money.

Now they're all saying he ain't worth the money, foolishly forgetting that they spent £107m on Enzo and kind of kicked off this whole godforsaken mess.

Banter club honestly, will love it if Brighton now sign Lavia

This tweet highlights the ineptitude perfectly

teeheehee. Can we poach that poster for 6CMs?

From the Shed:

I've just woken up to this and I'm FURIOUS.
We've just lost our no1 target for the season, The no1 player our manager wanted and needed, A genuinely world class player in his position. We spend three months chasing him and Liverpool take two days to get it done. No one is worth 100m+ but it's not the point it makes Liverpool look serious and we look like complete muppets.
He walks into our team and helps us fight for league titles in the next 8-10 years. Liverpool know this.
The whining about the fallout of the potential price paid had we got him is nothing compared to having the player in our squad. Small time mentality.
We've let the manager down, We've stifled Enzo for another season, We've allowed Liverpool to take a genuine World Class player to fill their problem position and we've limited and self sabotaged our season.
Total sh*t show.

More you say?

We want moronic businessmen who do their job and get the players that genuinely improve us into the team. The whole point of a 'negotiator' is someone who actually gets the target over the line and not ends up improving Liverpool instead.

This is what we get for spending 20 million on unknown players just to send them to strasboug instead of investing in our marquee signing. Once the season starts this will hurt more than havertz or Mount. He is the closest thing to kante and we have literally let it slip....

We should have just given them the money instead we are wasting money on average Tyler Adams.
Thanks for nothing boehly

Maybe shouldnt have spent so much money on signing kids for Strasbourg.
Really poor to miss out on main target especially when after 3 months we actually met brightons asking price anyway.
Couldve had this seen up long ago.
Alot of the goodwill that was building through preseason has gone tor me with this. Really feel sorry for Poch who no doubt has been planning with Caicedo in mind.
Embarrassing all around tbh.

Chelsea are a footballing institution apparently, nah, banter club more like

Now calculate how much missing out on CL again will cost us.
Because thats a given believe you me.
The Americans have murdered a proper institution of a football club in 12 months.

Make no mistake about it, we f**ked this one. It doesn't matter that we don't think he is worth 100m, that is the price the club were (reluctantly) going to pay. If they had paid it earlier, he would already be a Chelsea player by now. We spent the entire summer wasting time, and we've paid for it. We've had done to us what we have done to so many clubs in the past 20 years. We've changed for the worse since the change of ownership, there is no point denying it at this point, it's just constant bad news following this club since they came in.
If we sign Lavia and Adams then this midfield of ours is awful. You can forget about top 4 or even top 6, we'll struggle to make top 10.

The board spent three months trying to nickel and dime Brighton in a one horse race even when they originally stated very clearly the purchase price was £100m. A price we we're quite happy to pay last night when it turned out we had serious competition for the player.
We had a chance to be competitive this season, The board have f**ked this up royally and we're finishing 7-8th at best in a season a lot of us were (very much past tense now) looking forward to.

There is so much to say on this it’s mind blowing.
He was our number 1 target.
Brighton said they wanted £100m, we could of wrapped this deal up literally anytime from June to Wednesday this week.
We offered the £100m only after Liverpool got encouragement after how slow we was.
We asked him to put pressure on Brighton, he did that on Saturday when he told them he wanted to leave and join Chelsea, yet we still did nothing and then literally waited for validation from Liverpool to see if we was the only club who thought he was worth around £100m.
Caicedo got fed up of waiting and Brighton did too and in the end Liverpool outbid us so the decision was taken out of Caicedo’s hands.
There’s so much more I could say but I can’t be bothered atm.
Brighton did nothing wrong, we spent 3 months low balling them until it was too late.
Caicedo did nothing wrong, he can’t sign for us until we agree a fee with Brighton.

Liverpool’s number 1 target was McAlister
Arsenal’s number 1 target was Rice
Man Utd’s number 1 target was Mount
All these clubs made their number 1 target a priority, while we messed about sold our midfield off, concentrated on young players who either need time to adapt or players we plan to loan out to Strasbourg.

Liverpool have come from nowhere and got our number 1 target, let that sink in!

But hey, we’ve gonna get Tyler Adams (when he’s fit again) and probably Lavia as he’s probably our only option who is available.
This level of incompetence from the our board in this saga is truly astonishing.
And just like that we’ve strengthened another rival this summer, we just did it the long way round this time.
We’ve also let Poch down and Enzo probably.
Maybe the 2030 project is literally that, because we are probably 7 years away from competing at the top table lol.
I had a feeling there would be one crazy move the board would do this transfer window to undo a lot of the seemingly promising progress this summer.
I thought it would be overpaying for an injury prone overseas player with his best days behind him.
But hats off to our board, this one I didn’t see coming, not on Wednesday anyway.

Respectfully disagree. You have to get the best player possible, if you want to be competitive, it's called ambition. Arsenal overpaid for Rice, now Liverpool overpaid Caicedo. Both clubs significantly improved and get the player they wanted. What did we do all summer? Buying unknown youngsters from Brazil to strengthen Strasbourg. f**king hell.

Just watched one of the four hundred welcome to Liverpool videos already made for me, he really looks like Milner when he tackles, which is a great thing, need that steel and bite back in our midfield, but how many cards did he pick up last season? He does a lot of high risk tackles, invariably gonna miss time a few of them.

Also, this is more a reflection of our transfer strategy than a criticism of Caicedo, but he's another shorty. Replacing Fabs and Hendo with Caicedo and Mccallister drastically reduces the height in our team. At least Slobbo stands at six foot.

He's 5' 10" so he's not a midget. If you look at his stats in winning headed duels, it's clear he's very strong in the air, so I really don't think it matters.

I've missed posts like these, but I really hope Chelsea don't get Lavia, tbh I still kinda think he'd be good for us.

That's taller than I thought tbf, but I still think it'll be an issue on corners, hopefully I'm wrong.

Not believing this 100% until he's in the kit and leaning on something at our training ground. Rumours of chelsea not giving up yet. Worried Boehly is furiously going to throw stupid money at this now.

Would like to think Brighton are honourable and in their eyes are it's done

Why? We were one of the teams that conceded the least amount of goals from corners last season. Szobo is 6'1 and Caicedo is probably better in the air then Henderson and maybe even Fabinho. Wont be a problem.

Worried Boehly is furiously going to throw stupid money at this now.

He can't do it any more than he has been up until now and ultimately, as we know, there aren't many alternatives about.

The only way he appeases the pissed off element of the fanbase is by signing Tchouaméni or Valverde.

Defending set plays isnt' all about having height, it's being positionally aware and sensing danger/key threats. A minor tactic such as blocking an opponents run to get a free header (whilst keeping your eye on the ball) is something that can easily be implemented.....plus we have Gakpo, Nunez, Szobo, Ali, Virgil and Ibou/Maip who are all 6ft+

If you look at all the times teams concede from corners or wide free kicks deep in the defensive third, more often than not it's because a key threat has been left unmarked or untracked and has a free run to connect with the ball.

I think you're wrong. He could be 6 ft 2 and not good at anticipating the ball in the air. His record in winning headed duels, which is excellent, is a stat that is in no small part measured from his performance in corners and other defensive set pieces says this isn't an issue.

Caicedo won more aerial duels than both Fabinho and Henderson. 64% compared to 58 and 52.
Szobo with the same as Henderson (52).

I am genuinely going to pick up a can of beans with curious meats in for dinner tonight in celebration.

Jurgen Klopp admits he ‘was wrong’ to say he had no interest in £100m transfers as Liverpool near Moises Caicedo deal

Jurgen Klopp admits he was wrong to say he had no interest in making £100million ($127m) signings as Liverpool close in on the British record transfer of Moises Caicedo.
The Ecuador international is set to undergo a medical after Liverpool out-bid Chelsea to agree a fee of £111m with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Back in the summer of 2016, Klopp said spending that much on one player was the wrong approach as he vowed: “The day that this is football, I’m not in a job anymore.”
However, given the changing landscape of the transfer market and the financial might of their rivals, Klopp admits he has changed his opinion in order to try to keep pace.
“Everything changed. Do I like it? No. Did I realise I was wrong? Yes, definitely. That’s the way it goes. It’s not great,” Klopp said.
“It won’t go the other way around again. Saudi Arabia definitely won’t help with that. I’m not blaming anyone, but it just won’t help with it. Another market with a lot of money.
“In the end, we as a club just have to try to make sure that with our resources we get the best possible team together. We all know in football 50 per cent will like it and 50 per cent will say ‘but I would have done this or that’.
“Believe me, we really try everything to bring together the best squad for us. That’s the idea. We are not in dreamland. It’s not that we can just point at players and bring them in. There’s a lot of work to do these things. Sometimes one door closes and another opens up.
“If people want to throw my quotes at me from five or six years ago, absolutely no problem. That day it was what I thought. Now I realise I was wrong. It’s easy to admit that.”

'He was made for big clubs': The rise and rise of Moises Caicedo

Klopp confirmed that Liverpool had agreed a fee with Brighton but wouldn’t be drawn on whether Caicedo was undergoing a medical on Friday.
The club recently banked around £52million from the sales of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia and that allowed them to move for Caicedo when Chelsea’s pursuit stalled. Liverpool had previously been thwarted in their attempts to agree a deal with Southampton for Romeo Lavia.
“What changed? We aren’t a club with endless resources but a couple of things we didn’t expect happened in the summer with Hendo and Fab. The club really stretched it to be honest,” Klopp added.
“The German saying is ‘don’t praise the evening before the day’. Let’s see what happens and we’ll go from there.”

Szoboszlai - €70M
Mac Allister - €45M
Caicedo - €125M***
Nunez - €90M
Gakpo - €47M
Luis Diaz - €50M
Konate - €45M
Alisson - €70M
Keita - €65M
VVD - €90M
Fabinho - €55M

That's miserly FSG for you.

Stop defending them please, we never asked to buy the most expensive player every 3 years. They neglected the midfield for too long and you know it, and honestly they should force Klopp to sell players in the future if they keep having injuries instead of hoping they will become better, and personally I think it causes internal problems when a player who is on high wages is not available half the time. Don't assume that I am one of those that want FSG Out. I really like the way they have operated in the market with multiple targets etc.. but for whatever reason they decided to go off script on their own methods in recent seasons. Also if they are going to do that Moneyball thing they should aim for more younger but physically developed players - we are talking the 12M-25M mark if that is at all possible in todays market. For the record, I would have been very pleased with Lavia as much as I am happy for Caicedo. The only thing Caicedo offers with assurance is that extra bit of experience in the PL (including knowing how to operate with Mac10), and an ability to play RB when Trent inverts.

Chelsea throwing more money at Caicedo and hoping Brighton will come back to the table then.

You have to laugh at Brighton getting £111m for a player they were asking for £100m for. Yea perfect circumstances for them but they certainly capitalised.

We need to get him through the medical, walk him around the training ground and get those bloody contracts signed... then stick him on the team bus/plane to London for Sunday.

Looks like he may be having second thoughts and wants to wait to see if Chelsea match/increase bid as that's his preferred destination & the rumours he was already travelling for his medical are false.

My man in Brighton says we have told Chelsea to stop calling us. So if something goes wrong in this deal like Brighton fuck us around, I want us to just go to Southampton and sign Lavia for £55M. No ifs or buts - just fucking do it.

Cant blame him, West London where all the riches are or Liverpool ..... just saying.

We will have to see what home bargains are offering.

Wife and kids are away for the weekend and I'm living the life of a bachelor.
