It did, but I'm trying to manage my own expectations a little bit.

Last time I fully believed that Roy was gone and that Rijkaard was hours away from being appointed. Trying not to get my hopes up too much this time.

Is there a board meeting held every Monday?
I guess it started as a "What the hell happened in the weekend" when we had played poorly, but it turned automatically into a monday morning blues meeting??

If Hodgson is sacked, I hope Kenny Dalglish is appointed so you can all tear him to shreds and get that out of your system.

Its not like Hodgson's performance as manager is not deserving of some kind of negative comment though is it?

While I do agree that it goes too far sometimes, he has been very very poor

I think everybody has been over-rating our squad, and under-rating opposition teams. Stoke City have a pretty good home record. Every Premier League game is tough - Sunderland beat Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge ffs. Hodgson is expected to brush the likes of Stoke aside without Mascherano in the side. We miss him badly.

I don't honestly believe that Kenny Dalglish or any other replacement manager would be able to provide instant success. It's going to take some time to turn things round.

my dislike of roy is more born from performances rather tha results. if I could see what he is attempting to build towards, if I could make sense of his tactics, if I thought he was getting the most out of the resources he has then I can hand on heart have more patience with him as I had patience with rafa when he first arrived and struggled in the league (5th).

I do think we should show more motivation, energy and belief. It's my perception that the players don't seem to believe in what they are being asked to do. We should at least be competitive.

I think we have the players to be able to match and beat Stoke City, I don't think our squad is poor enough to be excused; and neither is the Manager.

I do think Dalglish would carry the players and most certainly the fans with him, something that Roy Hodgson is conspicuously failing to do. We need less negativity from the top and more of a can do attitude, something that Stoke City display week in and week out.

I'm sure nobody wants our Manager to be continuously questioned but he has done little to stem the flow.

I understand some of your points Portly, but the fact is that Hodgsons approach doesn't suit any of our players. We sit far to deep, and kick it upfield towards a helpless Torres. It's not exactly a winning formula. And I can guarantee that a new manager would NOT play Meireles as a right winger. No sane person would do that.

Roy is out of his depth and needs to go asap.

A new manager with a more attacking approach would have been much higher up the table with the squad we have. Play to your strenghts, not set up a system that clearly isn't working with the group of players that are available. It's not like we're playing well, but losing. We have been shite for 47 of the 50 halves of football or so we have played this season. Blackpool and WBA bossed us at fucking Anfield for crying out loud.

He has to go, and quickly.

I said this ages ago. our system isolates too many of our attacking players. I could at least 'understand' these tactics if our defense was amazing, gh defended in numbers but the back line was sami, handchoz, babbel and carra and the four of them were protected by didi, I could understand if our current defenders were that good but they patently aren't so we are inviting pressure on a suspect defense and isolating the attacking players into the bargin. ffs roy do the math.

Well maybe Kenny wouldnt create instant success. But one little thing that he would bring with him is the expectation of himself and his squad to be a top four squad, and approach games by that standard. Roy Hodgson honestly beleives Rafa has given him a relegation sqaud and approach games by that.

further to post my last post, away wins to wigan and stoke would have seen us on 21 points, ahead of spurs and 1 point behind man city despite our worst start for decades so anyone who says we couldn't challenge for 4th with our current squad with better manager doesn't know what they're fucking talking about. that's directed at vlad. if you feel you can insult me with impunity then I have no problem with being rude in return.

'a little more daft' is hardly a 'fucking insult'.

You normally take insults like a duck in the rain anyway. Why the outrage this time?
there's plenty of times I disagree with posts but I don't counter with insults.
Neil , saying you a "little daft" on the SCM Richter scale of insults does not even make the needle twitch.
But to say " I'm of the belief we possess enough players of quality to at last challenge top 4" (I presume you meant least and not last)
clearly is a little daft.

There is no team or manager on the planet that will make fourth place with one striker (and an injury prone one at that).

no worries vlad. :O)
the reason I say we have to the squad to challenge top 4 is because

a) city and spurs are pretty inconsistant (which will always give us a chance)
b) we have enough good players to together mini runs.

I never said we WOULD secure top 4 I was saying with the right management we 'could' secure 4th and I still think this as despite us being shite we're only 6 six of top 4 which given the state of affairs surrounding the club this season is nothing short of a miracle.

I agree with neil. For all our problems, the top teams seem to be falling over themselves NOT to open up a gap at the top of the league. We could indeed have challenged for a top four place if we hadn't been so ineptly managed.

totally. this squad should be challenging for a top 4 spot - they're good enough to get reasonably close.

we got 63 pts last year. everyone acknowledged that as an underachievement. so you get rid of the manager and his lost-the-plot-ness, and that should bump up the 'natural' points-accumulating ability of that squad to around 70-73 pts (less than achieved in both 08 and 09). knock a few off for the slight depletion in quality over the summer, and i reckon a top manager should be getting around 66-68 points this season.

that is more than enough to 'challenge' for the top 4 - probably not achieve it, but still.

i'm not sure if our squad is good enough for top 4. Look at the amount of average in the squad. We've got maybe 4 classy players in or starting line up, the rest are filler, with little in the locker.

In fact average is slightly flattering for some. I was thinking about this before, someone mentioned on here recently we've got 13 internationals in our squad. And? Representing ones country does not make you a good player. A meaningless cap in a worthless friendly does not make a good player. I'm sure we could all name players who have represented their country that really shouldn't have.
I reckon you'd be a shoo-in for this sabermetricsystem thingy, pete.
hahaha, you're probably right. i do like figures - i think it's probably the baseball itself i find so unspeakably boring.

It's difficult to assess whether we should be challenging for top four or not, because our squad is so fragile.

One or two injuries/players going out of form and we're screwed. There's no depth.

Personally I don't think we're capable of it. Other teams have stronger squads and that's usually telling come the end of the season. They'll sort themselves out eventually. I don't see how we can.

i'm sure if we went through each of the expected top four squads and compared their squads to ours player by player, we'd be under no illusions over where we belong
