BYE BYE ROY!!!!!

I think it's bizarre that people are fearful of winning football matches when we're in the bottom three. It's not difficult to get your head around.
It's incredibly bizarre. People just don't think it could happen to us.

I don't give a flying fuck how we win games at this point, and I'm certainly not worried about the possible implications of Roy going on a streak of winning games, because that would be great.

I'm never going to will our team to fail. Hodgson's pretty much got that job under control so far. Much more failure and he'll be gone in no time. When everyone at a club is reassuring people of your job, you know you are right on the cusp.

If we can get to some comfortable point and gain a bit of confidence, we'll drop out of the news, the morale will improve, and the team will have room to breathe again. That's a far better time to put a new manager in.

I'm of the opinion roy will get a season, why?

1. we are in the relagation zone and roy is still here.
the owners have the excuse of being new to the club and wanting their own man and the manager being spectacularly shit, yet the manager is still in a job.

2. the owners only have to give roy a years wages if removed by november.
if it's a case of money the owners would have got rid, and longer and it will cost them three times as much to get rid.

3. the janaury transfer window.
a new manager would need at least a month (maybe longer) to look over the squad and identify which areas need to be strengthened. yet still the old manager is in place.

I think the owners are going to give roy a decent transfer kitty in jan and see how he does for the rest of the year.
the bottom line is the owners have all the excuses in the world to get rid but roy is still here so what other conclusion can you draw other than they don't want to get rid?
That post would make more sense, if it was made after November. The owners have only been here for half a minute. They will need time to analyze and make a decision.

Spider, about 5 post before that you were "of the opinion" he'll be given until january if he wins his next game
I've just been giving the situation more thought as to why the manager hasn't been removed yet.

If we keep on winning he'll be judged in January or at the end of the season.

While I can't bring myself actually to hope we lose at any time, I don't agree that it's bizarre either. Those who feel that way take the view, rightly IMO, that keeping Roy on for any length of time will ultimately do more damage than losing a couple more games.
There is also the future to consider.

We need a younger man who can bring fresh ideas and can plan for the long term.

In addition we now have a number of players at or around thirty years old so new blood is needed.

During the takeover we heard that NESV have previously looked to recruit younger players based on statistical modelling. Maybe they will bring their methods to Anfield and look to recruit a Manager better able to adapt to new thinking.

I do think that under Hodgson the team will stagnate. He clearly is not the future even if results improve short term. I would make a change sooner rather than later.
Hodgson needs to win a fair amount of games to prove to everyone he's not entirely useless.

Then he'd need to win even more to prove to everyone that he's more than just a convenient, malleable choice made out of neccesity.

I hope he does the first, and pulls us to safety, because otherwise the next manager will come in to a ridiculous pressure cooker.

I hope he does the second too, because it'd be great to win a lot. I think it's pretty unrealistic to expect he will. This is why I think he'll be sacked regardless.
do you even know what 'regardless' means, farky?!

anyway, i think you make a good point about it being better for a new manager to come in when we're not quite so vulnerable.

my real fear has always been that he'll muddle through just enough to get to spend £25m in january on the likes of carton cole, chris brunt et al.

the ideal would be that we climb to mid-table over the next month playing terrible football and winning the flukiest points ever, and that he's finally sacked having shown no genuine progress. i say ideal, because not even in my ideal world is roy hodgson good enough to manager Liverpool FC.

Haha. I guess I haven't really included us going on some massive transformative win streak in the realm of the plausible.

Anyway. It's meant to be a simple point, as Squiggles said. Teams at the bottom of the table need wins above all else.

i more or less agree. i really want him out, and can definitely at least appreciate the silver lining of defeats right now, but i've never quite reached the stage ofwanting us to lose.

being in the bottom 3 is just too humiliating.

Tell me about it. The kind of shit i have had to put up with these last few months from manc fans. I can imagine how bad it could get for guys living in England.

Lets start winning first and foremost please.

When a Utd fan says we're shit just say "I know". They usually then just look bemused and have no relevant material left. Twats.

I don't disagree with that, and as JJ has said, I've never hoped we lose. I don't think that's a thing you can ever do as a fan during a game. And I’m saying this at the outset because I don’t want to turn this into a debate about the foundational question of what a fan’s role should be.

My issue is with the fact that you seem to assume that it's you and I (who KNOW that Hodgson will cause more damage than good) who're making the decision regarding the manager. We're not - it's the owners and there's no guarantee that they think on the same lines. If we somehow win the next 5 games, I’d think it would be certain that Hodgson will be given money to spend in January, and will last till the end of the season. However, you and I KNOW that that will cause more damage to club because regardless of the 5 wins, we'll probably finish midtable, and possibly even in the bottom half. If you know that and believe that, would you rather not just have lost the game today if it would have guaranteed Hodgson being sacked?

Surely indulging in this sort of cost-benefit analysis is but natural in such a situation?

Hopeful I know but maybe Hodgson can manage enough wins for us to get to a respectable position so that his successor can be chosen without the pressure of relegation on either the board or the incumbent.

Singapore.

He's not kidding too.

Singapore is Manc country.

As is pretty much most of Asia.

Can't miss, in all honesty.

They just need to know a little of football from 1992 and sing the only song they know ie 'Glory Glory Man United'.

Don't even joke about it. Roy's already given Lucas the armband once.

As I said earlier, of our next 6 games, 4 is away. Since Roy havn't won away in 30 league games, I think he'll be out on his arse pretty quickly.

If he only realized that you need the same approach as we had yesterday, also at away games.
But who am I to give advice, I don't have 35 years of manager experience...

From Singapore mate..

Avvy there is nothing for you to see here.

Ah yer...just saw your post. The guy seated next to me says to me "Shame on you for letting a Malaysian outshine us on efficiency." He is overdue on a report...so i didn't take him seriously.

From Jim Boardman's Twitter;
mikejefferiesL4 Kenny Dalglish will be promoted today. Beginning of the end for Roy - who couldn't even manage to sound intelligent in post match interviews.

kenny in charge of january transfers according to the guy that does anfield online

Some kind of Director of Football role. NSEV getting fans on side. Doesn't mean Budgie will be sacked, though, just that his autonomy is reduced a bit. Mind you, if NSEV really want to get the fans on side, sacking Budgie should be their first move.
