Brendan Rodgers on Sterling, Sturridge, Welbeck and Villa.

On Sturridge: 'We're obviously disappointed because we feel it's an injury that could have been prevented'. (He implies England should have given him a second day's rest for recovery.)

Fitness: 'One to two weeks away'.

what did he say about Wellbeck?

And that, like Sturridge, it's prudent to give players with that build and pace the right amount of rest after games.

Other things:

He always looks to try out young players in a variety of positions to see how they react and to what extent they're able to improve their game intelligence.

Balotelli is 'a calculated risk'. He didn't really speak to other people about him. He concentrated on the discussion he had with him face to face. Thought he was 'a very, very clever boy...ready to mature...since he's been here he's been really, really good...played really well against Tottenham...he's obviously not [yet] up to match speed...but he's a world class talent...it's a risk worth taking'.

Agrees that Mario may sometimes need an arm around his shoulder but warns that you can do that too often: 'He's a 24 year old man, so he has to take responsibility himself...He's the king of his own destiny...'

On Ludogrets: He has a contact in Bulgaria who's advised him on the team, and he's gone through recordings of all their recent games.

he's right, its a sale that will come back to bite United on the arse, he'd have been ideal for us too.

I don't think Welbeck is that brilliant but it always looked a reckless move by Utd. He improves Arsenal considerably IMO, and that makes the task of finishing in the top 4 quite a lot harder.

Ha ha, okay mate. There wasn't really anything else of consequence. Just the odd line about looking forward to the Villa game then the European return.

I concur and said as much that the Welbeck sale to the Gooners will cost Utd a top 4 spot.

It will be a beautiful irony.
